it is clear console developers will favor graphics over smoothness. this won't be 60fps on scorpio either.

JayPi33215d ago

Scropio is still about 14 months away. i'm not a fanboy but it's too early to call imo.

Kingthrash3603215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

Bad move.
I'd take 1080p 60 over 4k 30 anyday
I could care less about 4k of it comes down to 60fps
Is it easier to get the 4k than 60fps? I always thought they had about the same stress and devs would balance it out or choose a side to roll with.
If they chose 4k over 60fps just because 4k then it's just a bad decision.

2600Thunder3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

@Kingthrash360 Precisely. At least give us a standardized settings toggle to lower graphics in favor of 60fps, but my understanding is that the option will not be consistent. Even the Wii-U runs games at 60fps, and for that system the 1st party games look good, but console graphics and specs suddenly only matter when people dog on that system.

Has been my hope all gen, but bullshots are easier to use to impress people. I get horrible motion sickness and a desire for responsiveness (even on controller for 3rd person) were the biggest reasons I finally went back to PC.

Solid 60 makes games so much more enjoyable.

gedden73215d ago

This is true, they ALREADY confirmed this.

RpgSama3214d ago

I think they are going for more and better graphical effects, particles, textures, HDR, foliage, Lighting, instead of frames, I don't always support this, in a perfect world I would want both, but for a single player centric game I prefer this approach. Now if we were talking about a multiplayer game, then 60fps everyday of the week.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3214d ago

Scorpio has +4 more GB of faster GDDR5, A much better CPU and Much Better GPU... Im sure it will run at 4k and 60 most likely... The Battlefield 1 Beta (which currently is the most taxing Frostbite game) ran 4k @ 50-60 on comparable GPU's. Not promising it will... but it's definitely more than a possibility at this point

2pacalypsenow3214d ago

@GUTZnPAPERCUTZ

Where does it say the Scorpio will have 12gb of GDDR5 memory?

indyman77773214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

You make sense Microsoft said they are 'shoting' for 6teraflops which they will most likely make. 6-4.2=1.8 So Microsoft's console could be 1.8 teraflops more than PS4 pro. That is NOT twice as much processing power as PS4's 5.2teraflops. So why would they double the frames?

The 10th Rider3215d ago

A lot of people don't seem to understand the both consoles are bottlenecked at the CPU. . . The PS4 has a better GPU than the Xbox One, but a slightly less powerful CPU. The PS4pro is using the same CPU, just clocked a bit higher. Without a significant CPU upgrade, the framerate will still be limited by the CPU.

Sciurus_vulgaris3215d ago

MS has been very quiet about the CPU of the Scorpio. The Scorpio's CPU is likely just an upclocked jaguar (which aren't designed for high clock speeds). You are right, the CPU of the PS4pro will limit the GPU and the Scorpio will likely have the same problem. If MS and Sony wanted to upgrade their consoles, they should of upgraded them more appropriately. Rather than buffing up the GPU for 4k (or res above 1080), they should of added a stronger CPU to allow for high framerates at 1080p.

The 10th Rider3214d ago

I'm not quite as tech savvy as my brother, who is in computer engineering, so I asked him about it. He said that if they go with anything other than a jaguar, it could force devs to re-optomize their games. It will be very interesting to see what Microsoft does with the Scorpio. We may be getting native 4K at 30fps.

At least, though, the higher clock speed SHOULD allow for a more stable framerate on games like the Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto V as long as they don't introduce graphics options that are more taxing on the CPU.

Zero_Suit_Samus3215d ago

"Mass Effect: Andromeda to run at 30fps on both PS4 and PS4 Pro"

This is what happens when you're stuck with a weak jaguar CPU.

FamilyGuy3215d ago

Can't they off-load some of the work to the GPU and reach 60fps instead of the resolution focus?

objdadon3214d ago

No This is what happens when you have to spec for the original ps4 and xbox one.

4Sh0w3215d ago

Yep 1080p/60fps would have been better, but I guess they got to sell "dat new 4K" hook.

Ysmir67233214d ago

4K isnt new.i have been playing at 4k since 2013.

Number-Nine3215d ago

60fps should be a standard this generation

Mystogan3215d ago

Its probably an artistic choice. Not every game will be 30fps. That was always up to developers.

Even the scorpio will have some 30fps games. Although at True 4K and not "Special rendered upscaled 1080p" (seriously wtf does that even mean?)

FamilyGuy3215d ago

They never said it was going to be 1080p upscaled. In fact I heard many times that it was closer to 4k then upscaled the rest of the way. Even the digital foundry breakdown said it was reaching 4k by doubling the pixels with some checker board method which means it's at least half the number of pixel of a 4k frame and that's doble the number of 1080ps pixel count on its own

FamilyGuy3215d ago

I don't get it, isn't Mass Effect a single player game? They should give us the option is the settings screen or something

seanpitt233215d ago

They said they cannot make 60 fps on the pro if the standard one isn't especially on mp games because they would have a clear advantage

objdadon3214d ago

That's only fo4 multiplayer, not in this case.

AngelicIceDiamond3214d ago

Whats's sad is PS4P can go beyond 30 frames probably a stable 60 and beyond. But they're paritying it with the Slim. Man wtf the point honestly. Let the PS4P shine and not gimp it with its vanilla version.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

Well the upgrades are Developer dependent if they decided they wanted to use more graphical power towards other elements in the game that's completely up to the developer to decide.

I personally hate how 60 frames-per-second actually looks on 3rd person games. I do however love it for first person games.

Developers could favor whatever elements they feel like it when developing their game for a set platform that is up to them to decide.

iTechHeads3214d ago

A lot of developers prefer more eye candy over better frame rate.
I'm ok with it. Really only multiplayer games actually benefit from 60FPS.

YinYangGaming3215d ago

PS4 totally fine but why not go for 1080/60 on the Pro? Fail.

Gaming_Cousin3215d ago

Stupid decision tbh. Hey lets put in better hardware but keep our game the same.

Zero_Suit_Samus3215d ago

@YinYangGaming

"PS4 totally fine but why not go for 1080/60 on the Pro? Fail."

Jaguar CPU bottleneck.

TheOptimist3215d ago

Honestly if ME: Andromeda is releasing early next year, then the development is entering finishing stages at this time and for them to change settings for a system they came to know about only this year, I think it'll be difficult

iTechHeads3214d ago

Yeah they should follow Rise Of The Tomb Raiders example and offer multiple modes.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago

But that's completely developer dependent if they're playing their game and they don't feel 60 frames-per-second fits their game they're completely fine to set it to 30 and use the extra processing elsewhere I personally didn't like the last of us at 60 frames and actually set it back the 30fps even set Infamous Second Son to 30 simply because I don't really like the 3rd person shooters look at 60 frames where I prefer 60 frames with first person shooters.

It's something that's simply dependent on the developer to decide.

On PC that's completely up to you and if that's something you're even worried about honestly I wouldn't even be wasting time trying to hope that console is going to run a specific game at 60 frames cuz even if the platform is capable of it, doesn't necessarily mean the developer intends for the game to run at that frame.

ie just because the platform can produce a game that runs at 60 frames doesn't mean the developer is going to put all their processing power to achieve such a thing especially if it's not even the main focus of the game.

The only thing I could say towards BioWare is that they should have at least had a separate mode that allowed the consumer to decide let's say I'm old that turned off some of those extra features in favor of extra frames.

So I would say I'm more in support of the consumer having the options but I cannot disagree if the developer decides their game does not fit that frame. If this is such a supreme issue for a user simply play it on PC mind you even games that I played on PC like dead space and the Mass Effect series I actually still preferred at 30 frames. I can't tell you how nauseating it is to play dead space at 60 frames on PC I specifically raised all the features of the game and made it run at 30 frames simply because I could not take how it looked running at that frame it's something that I believe is subjective to user, some users love it some don't care for it but in regards to 3rd person shooters I don't really care for it I would say maybe Devil May Cry or Bayonetta would be the only exceptions for me.

-Foxtrot3215d ago (Edited 3215d ago )

Is this because of a design choice by them OR can the PS4 Pro not do it.

If the PS4 Pro can do it BUT the developer wants both console audiences (PS4 and the PS4 Pro) to be equal then this is the CORE problem with the PS4 Pro and even Scorpion when it comes out.

Trying to please owners with the original consoles will not let developers use the true advantages of these better machines...with this you'll have to think "What's the Point of these then?".

You are basically putting yourself in a lose/lose situation because if you did make one version better there will obviously be backlash that original console owners are being screwed over.

Sevir3215d ago

They have the choice to utilize the power however they want. They wish to go 4k30 so they have the choice, Both Sony and MS have clearly stated the mandate, they just need to meet or exceed standard performance...

4k on Pro exceeds 1080p on Base PS4...

I'd prefer something like Rise of the Tomb Raider where, it's 4K30 HDR, 1080p 60 HDR , or 1080p 30 HDR, with more effects and graphic assets.

-Foxtrot3215d ago

"Both Sony and MS have clearly stated the mandate"

Really? Because I've heard and seen a lot of things like...

"We want both consumers to be equal with the way they play games"

Hell I'm pretty sure I heard something like that in the PS Meeting when they were talking about PS4 Pro.

"We want the PS4 to remain a unified community"

YinYangGaming3215d ago

But it doesn't run at 4k, native or upscaled. A dev on the game said they were using a "custom" technique whatever that means

arkard3215d ago

@foxtrot the fair for players was talking online games. Like COD for instance, say it ran at 30fps on ps4 it will be locked to 30fps on Pro for fair online play. I did not take this to mean the same thing for single player.

Sevir3215d ago

They are talking about Multi-player FPS...

For Honor and Watch_Dogs 2 have 4k modes and 1080p/30 HDR with better graphics on the Pro while the base model is standard 1080p

Pro can't do it. I'm a Sony guy. Don't bother with anything else.

game4funz3214d ago

We don't know for sure about Scorpio.... We'll see once these release what the devs are allowed to do.

_-EDMIX-_3214d ago (Edited 3214d ago )

I actually think you're on to something but I do not believe it's because they want it to be equal on both PlayStation 4 and pro users, you would have to understand why even make the mode in the first place? To support it means clearly they want to give those who own Pro a better experience the only thing I could say is that what if it's possible that they do want something equal on both users simply because it is the concept of the game , how do we know 30 frames is something they intend for the game regardless of platforms?

I feel is very much feasible that they're not making it 60 frames because the game was not designed in terms of its animations or even in terms of its core concept to even run at 60 frames.

For all we know they wanted to have a very cinematic type look to the animations in 60 frames may not fit that for them. Who knows.

I personally don't like how 3rd person looks at 60 frames.

I remember years ago when Mass Effect came to PC I thought I'd be thrilled to play it at 60 frames and I realized within maybe an hour to two hours that I actually didn't really like the game at 60 frames and ended up just lowering it. Later last generation I felt the same way about Dead Space 2 on PC as I was playing it I just could not stand the fast movements and actually preferred the lock 30 only because it conveyed in more cinematic feel and it's sort of felt nauseating even this generation when I bought the last of us on PlayStation 4 when I played some of it at 60 frames I realized I was just not going to like the game running at that and I ended up switching and playing it at 30 frames and preferred it at a locked 30 I personally just don't like 3rd person games running at 60 frames.

First person shooters for me though it's a huge must but even then if it's running at 30 frames and it's not ultra-competitive fast paced, maybe one of those narrative type games I don't necessarily care all that much it really depends on the game.

If anything I would say I'm in favor of at least an option to allow consumers to decide for themselves but again it's completely up to the developer and if anyone seriously wants that much control over the frame rate and other specific key features don't even waste time purchasing consoles and just get a PC.

The features people like on PC are not for a matter of fact they're not absolute there subjective to the user so if somebody prefers playing a specific game on garbage settings just a hit a hundred frames it doesn't actually mean that to everyone else a hundred percent wants the same experience, so for people making it sound as if the team is doing something really terrible understand that 60 frames to you on the 3rd person game may not mean the same thing to you as it might to me.

Runechaz3215d ago

and around 90 fps on my pc Thanks !

Psychotica3214d ago

Now, now, don't need to rub it in :)

slate913215d ago

Hmm...i wonder if this spells bad news for these consoles. Maybe the devs wont find the need to do the extra work to optimize for the systems? Is it easy? Difficult? Releasing a patch later on? Will UWP make it easier for scorpio?

MasterCornholio3215d ago

The PS4 Pro and Slim are extremely similar in system architecture. I can imagine that there's more work in making multiple versions but since almost everything is the same it should be quite easy for developers.

I personally believe that most developers will choose IQ over framerate.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast160d ago (Edited 160d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul160d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow159d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast201d ago

They lost too much talent.

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein236d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics236d ago (Edited 236d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac236d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992236d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX236d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9236d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne236d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast236d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne236d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog236d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay236d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000236d ago (Edited 236d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon236d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT236d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon236d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139236d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein236d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
