That's good to know. I just plan on taking my 2TB HD out of my PS4 and sticking it in my Pro.

"the PS4 Pro will be shipped at launch with [system software] 3.70, with version 4.0 coming soon." I hope not too soon afterwards.. otherwise you can't transfer the stuff over and it defeats the purpose.

ziggurcat3201d ago

interesting... so there's going to be two FW updates between now, and when the Pro launches?

Eonjay3199d ago

Sounds correct What firmware is PS4 on now?

Alexander1Nevermind3199d ago

I do hope I can remove my 2Tb sshd from my PS4 and swap it easily into the pro. Not as worried about the data transfer as the saves/games can be put back on rather easily from cloud/store.

LexHazard793199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

@Eonjay, I believe 3.55 but I could be wrong.

@ Alexander, is that sshd in 2.5 inch form? I have 1Tb and couldn't find one bigger at 2.5 anywhere. But plenty of 3.5 ones. If so please let us gamers that want better storage solution know. Thanks.

ziggurcat3199d ago

@back

People have been able to find 2TB drives that fit within the dimension requirements. I haven't, personally, but they are out there. I have a 1.5TB drive in my PS4 right now.

darthv723199d ago

@neon, when you take the drive out of one to put in the other... wont you lose all your data? I know it worked on the 360 but i thought the moment you put in a PS4 drive to another unit it would want to format it for that unit.

bloop3199d ago

@BakPain: This is the 2tb I have in my ps4. Just crack it open and swap out your drive and you can put your old ps4 drive into the seagate case.

@Alexander

Hate to break it to you but harddisks are encrypted by your PS4 and can only be decrypted on the same PS4 it was encrypted on so you can use your old hd with the new Slim or Pro but it will then be formatted again.

I have a doubt about swapping. Not sure the PS licence on your actual HD will work with the Pro. The system might force you to wipe the disk and reinstall.

dumahim3199d ago

No, you can't just swap the HD over and keep the data.
Pretty sure you'll have to format it to the new system once installed and you'd lose anything on it at that point.

LexHazard793199d ago (Edited 3199d ago )

It might be that because you cant do it on regular PS4.

Btw: Are we back to bubble system. I was commenting on another article and said I have no more bubbles....wt?

Neonridr3199d ago

Sorry I should have been a little more specific. I won't actually just swap it. I mean I would back up the data, wipe the 2TB, put the backup files onto the 2TB, put it in the Pro, and then restore from the menu.

I can't see why that wouldn't work.

DMZ_P3199d ago

@Neon, ho I see... haven't thought about doing it this way. Good thinking.

Why do this complicated thing. Why isn't Sony just enabling external storage?

It makes it a lot easier to transfer data sensibly. A lot of people want to trade in their existing PS4 for a Pro. Another missed opportunity.

Rimeskeem3199d ago

I'm guessing they will give a weeks notice prior to launching a new update.

that's cool, i just hope it doesn't take 6 hours like the back-up/restore process takes (and then fails on you 5h 30min into it like it did when I replaced my launch PS4 with the newer matte SKU). I'll just get a larger HDD for the Pro, and transfer the data this way if it proves to be a faster process.

2pacalypsenow3200d ago

If I were you I would just upload your saved games to the cloud and start fresh on the pro

Ol_G3199d ago

I did the same thing when i put a 2tb drive in my ps4.
But in the netherlands we don't have a cap on downloads this may not be an option every where

P_Bomb3200d ago

Would this be a cut 'n' paste or copy 'n' paste transfer? Ideally I'd like both systems to have the same content, at the same time.

Goldby3200d ago

cloud saves are your answer mate

P_Bomb3199d ago

I was thinking more along the lines of copying all the patches, installs, themes or games over. The saves are easy.

cash_longfellow3200d ago

How do I do this if I am trading in my vanilla ps4 when I pick up the Pro? :(

ninsigma3199d ago

You gotta use cloud saves in that case.

dumahim3199d ago

Use cloud for saves or use other backup storage along with any media you want to keep. Games will need to be reinstalled.

ocelot073199d ago

You can't only other way is if you have a USB stick or hard drive big enough to hold all the games and saves you have on your current PS4. Like if you have 400GB worth of content on your PS4 now. You can plug in a USB hard drive with 500GB space on it and back it up and transfer it to the PS4 Pro.

DragonDDark3199d ago

Some people asked gamestop to do it, And they did it for them. I saw this written on reddit though. Don't know if it's true.

Rimeskeem3199d ago

Flash drive with the saves or cloud. Then reinstall games. It's what I did with my new hdd

cash_longfellow3199d ago

That's what I'm thinking...just moving the save files. My Internet is pretty fast so game downloads shouldn't be too bad.

PSN Store "Remasters & Retro" Sale Kicks Off

Sony has launched the PSN Store "Remasters & Retro" sale that discounts The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered for the first time.

OtterX2d ago

That's great, Oblivion Remastered already on sale! Think I'll jump in.

I feel like Lunar Remastered should have been included on this one too though.
