This guys gets it. It's not hard to see it. Don't understand why people think this is the start of a new generation. Ps4 pro is just a high end ps4 where as the Scorpio seems to be the next generation for Xbox consoles.

TwoForce3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

Oh my god, that's the point. The only i think is Xbox Scropio is scream next gen.

Relientk773207d ago

Xbox Scorpio = Xbox 1.5

What are you even talking about

Xbox Two/Next/Four isn't coming out until like 2019 at the earliest. That will be in the next generation of consoles.

fanboysmackdown3207d ago

You still haven't grasped the English language hey two farts?

WelkinCole3207d ago

The PS4 Pro is just over 2 times the power of the standard PS4 while Scorpio is about 5 times the power of the X1 which is about the same power increase from the 360 to X1.

No one can seriously claim that the PS4 Pro is a next gen console. Scorpio though one can claim its a generation leap.

Last gen it was just from just a small bump from 720-1080p native but the X1 to Scorpio will be 1080p to 4k native which is 4 times. No one can seriously claim this is just a small increase.

blady_man3207d ago

I am getting both, so i dont care what people say lol

Aenea3207d ago

The PS4 Pro is about 3.2 times the power of an X1 and the Scorpio is about 4.6 times the power of an X1. Don't compare apples to oranges and then round down on one and up on the other!

PS. The Scorpio won't do 4k native either, that's a fantasy.

game4funz3207d ago

People love throwing around next gen as if it's based on something real... Let me simplify for folks

Ps4
Ps4slim
Ps4pro

Xbox one
Xbox one slim
Xbox scorpio

freshslicepizza3207d ago

scorpio will do native 4k, you guys just want to say things without any facts. and how can scorpio be a true next gen system if it will not have next gen games that the current xbox one won't? will microsoft have halo 6 on scorpio only? no

Guyfamily9993206d ago

You're really manipulating the information there.
PS4: 1.84TF
Xbox One: 1.31TF
That's a 41 percent disparity.
Xbox Scorpio: 6TF
PS4 Pro: 4.2TF
That's a 43 percent disparity.

Obviously there are other factors at play, the Scorpio's cpu end will likely be much better than the pros. But what I'm saying is, a 40 percent difference IS NOT that big. On base ps4/Xbox one yes, most games were a little sharper on PS4, or had some more foliage or something, but the core gaming experience is not that different. Yes, there is a difference, but if it's really all that matters to you then I don't see you as a gamer, I see you as a graphics obsessed sheep.

There will be a difference. The Scorpio will likely be the "better" console, but it's coming out a year later and has a good chance of costing more.

The PS4 Pro is aiming at two markets.
1) Playstation users with nice TV's who want to better make use of it.
2) Non PS4 owners who when purchasing decide they're willing to pay another 100 dollars for an improved system.
There will of course be plenty of sales from people who aren't in those groups though.

rainslacker3206d ago

Companies are just blurring the lines because if they actually pushed out a next gen console after 3-4 years they'd be criticized to death. Even the new paradigm of legacy support for a while isn't something that precludes it from being a next gen console, it just gives developers or publishers more choice to streamline their releases.

It's just the terminology being used to make it acceptable to the masses.

I wouldn't consider the PS4P a suitable next gen console if it was considered to be one. I would barely accept the Scorpio as a next gen console given the targeted specs, because it won't carry through to the next step in gaming which is native 4K, or high quality VR experiences.

The current mid gen upgrades are just a way to stave off the fact that consoles will be woefully underpowered for the time it takes for what will have to be in the next gen and allow it to survive the duration of that gen, and to get whatever will be next gen to a price which is affordable to the mass consumer market.

Inzo3207d ago

Unfortunately the Xbox fanboys are desperate to convince anyone owning a PS4 that the Pro is a next gen console like the Scorpio, they need to have a sense that Sony is afraid that xbox might catch up to the Playstation while the release of the Pro confirms quite the opposite.

3207d ago
gangsta_red3206d ago

What's funny is only Sony fanboys are going around crying and suggesting that there some confusion or comments that the PS4Pro was a next gen console.

You guys created your own false flag and now are going the extra mile with a lie you made up.

Inzo3206d ago

@bg116

What ever helps you sleep at night.

S2Killinit3207d ago

I've been saying this to these xbots all day, they think PS4Pro is competing with scorpio. I wonder what they would say when they hear it from remedy.

Soon as Scorpio releases the PS5 will follow with stronger specs. This is Sony's strategy.

As for me, i just want to enjoy games from now until the next gen systems arrive. PS4Pro is going to be great this chrismas coupled with PSVR.

LexHazard793207d ago

The Scorpio with its beefy specs is not being touted as next gen by MS. They've gone as far as to say that there wont be any Scorpio exclusives aside from the VR stuff and just like the PS4 Pro will have forward compatibility, making the games now look even better on the Scorpio. But who knows, MS has been known to switch shit up, I just wait and see.

But thats a ways out. Right now Im just focused on getting my PS4 Pro paid off. I have several offers on my PS4 Im not wasting anytime. So I'll probably just have my Xbox One til Nov 10, which I recieved an email from Amazon I will get it day one.

Aenea3207d ago

PlayStation is competing with Xbox, next year the top model PS, the PS4 Pro, is thus competing with Xbox's top model, the Scorpio. No matter what anyone thinks that's how it's gonna be.

S2Killinit3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

@bakPain
Sounds like a good plan. I have no problem with anyones preferences.

@Aena
Of course it is competing with it. The issue isnt that they are not competitors, the issue is whether the PS4Pro, which has already been touted by many including Sony to be a mid-cycle update, will be the sole competition to scorpio. The answer to that question seems to be "No" because Sony is going to back it up with the next Playstation at some point soon after scorpio's release.

3207d ago
3207d ago
S2Killinit3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

@bg116
its not just the time that makes the scorpio a next gen console as opposed to the PS4Pro, its the totality of the circumstances. The 14 month difference in release is only one factor. The other factors include:
1) MS stating that they will "leave it up to developers to decide if they want to make exclusives for scorpio
2) scorpio having all VR titles exclusive to itself while the older xbox console owners will not have VR games
3) Sony stating that the PS4Pro is a "mid-generation" console and not a new console generation
4) MS stating that they don't believe in "mid-gen" upgrades
5) MS needing to reset the current market as they are loosing market share each and every month
6) fact that Sony's larger install base allows them to wait until MS makes the first move

there is more, but I just don't remember.

Also You mentioned that once PS5 releases, MS will follow with scorpio 2, which is correct, but what I'm telling you is exactly that. Once PS5 releases, of course MS will be working on their own next console, but at that point it will be too early, even for MS (which usually makes a new console every 4 yrs), to come out with a new console (even a mid-gen console) that is EXACTLY why its my OPINION that PS5 will be releasing within a year or year and half of scorpio's release. why? because it makes strategic sense in that MS will not be able to release another console right away, and they won't gain traction in install base/market share. If it makes sense to a non professional like me, I'm pretty sure its clear as day to professionals in the industry.

Scorpio isn't nextgen console and you should know that PS4 Pro are weaker than Scorpio.

TwoForce3207d ago

Then why Phil Spencer said that he didn't like Xbox 1.5. That sounds like he want Xbox Scropio to be next gen.

goldwyncq3207d ago

Scorpio isn't next gen either. It's not going to get anything that the original Xbox one won't.

TwoForce3207d ago

Are you sure ? If it true, I agree.

S2Killinit3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

Ummm should i bring you the quote where xbox head said they are "leaving it up to developers to decide if they want to make exclusives" ?

Or the fact that ALL VR titles will only be exclusive to scorpio? No other xboxone can play VR games.

But i guess reality isnt really relevant huh.

Angeljuice3207d ago

Yes it is. Spencer only said that Microsoft have no plans to make first party games specifically for the Scorpio. He also stated that 3rd parties are free to do so if they choose. Do you really think they won't?

And he stated "no plans" which leaves room for a strategy switch down the line.

Scorpio is a very different concept. All PS4 games will always work on all systems, Scorpio has no such policy in place.

joeorc3207d ago

@goldwyncq1h ago
[Scorpio isn't next gen either. It's not going to get anything that the original Xbox one .]

Which , promptly was again stated except that in the case is the Xbox one, the Xbox one S will not be using VR and only the Xbox Scorpio will in fact be getting VR exclusive's that the other Xbox one's would not be getting..so in fact ....

[ It's not going to get anything that the original Xbox one won't]

Not true at all.

I said it earlier in another article, "Scorpio is a next gen console. PS4 Pro is just PS4.5."

3207d ago
andrewsquall3207d ago

How many times do you people have to be told? Microsoft has already said that Scorpio games must be compatible and also released on the original severely weak ddr3 Xbone also. Can you explain how is that going to help elevate Scorpio to the next gen status that you claim?

kraenk123207d ago

Scorpio games won't be compatible. That's clear as sauce already. MS will do another 180 soon enough.

xander707693207d ago

It is totally pathetic the way PS4 fans are acting about this, and I say this as a PS4 fan myself. The mental gymnastics being used to deny that these two upcoming consoles are in direct competition is mind numbingly stupid. They are releasing around the same time as each other; that puts them in the same generation/era. I GUARANTEE you they will be sharing multi-plat games, exactly like the PS4 and Xbox one do. The xbox scorpio is more powerful, just accept it. All this crap about one being next gen and the other not being next gen and how they aren't in competition just makes PS4 fans look like whiny babies because the PS4 pro isn't as powerful.

Artemidorus3207d ago

Scorpio won't be next gen either just an extension

Kribwalker3207d ago

At which point in the article does the guy say "unlike the scorpio this isn't a sequel" ?

It will be interesting to see how the PS4 Pro's head start will affect the reception of the Scorpio.

MasterCornholio3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

I'm actually wondering what Horizon will do. The game could be a system seller for the PS4 Pro.

@Gamer

"doesn't do native 4k?"

Stick with your PS4 and wait until the PS5 comes out.

ninsigma3207d ago

Horizon is beautiful on the pro. It's definItaly a seller for an upgrade anyway! New game play looked damn good.

gamer11383207d ago

Why? It looked great on OG PS4 before. And now HDR is coming to OG PS4 so what reason is there for me to upgrade to Pro when it doesn't do native 4k?

poppinslops3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

Well, let's play this out: the holiday season is upon us, which means PSVR is coming (though how well it does is anybody's guess) and once again Sony's AAA holiday lineup has been delayed to next year - which would be fine if it weren't for 2016's multiplat selection, which is the weakest I've seen in years (needs more Red Dead)... I imagine things will pick up next year, with games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Gran Turismo and Spiderman (hopefully) set to launch.

That said, by then it'll be up against Nintendo's NX, which might just be a more attractive option for those people who already own 'vanilla' PS4s (or Vitas) - I mean, that Zelda game does look pretty great... Personally, I'll be getting both (and a Scorpio), but that's only because I don't own a PS4 or a Wii-U.

Obviously there are things I can't predict, such as Mass Effect Andromeda or the next Red Dead's release dates - either of which would certainly help the Pro to sell - but as it stands I can't see it selling more than 10 million units by the time Scorpio comes out... not unless PSVR gets an absolutely killer app.

blady_man3207d ago

I will be getting the neo this year, nx in march as it is my b/day so i will ask my wife for it as a b/day present! ;) and latter in the year the scorpio if its not over £450-£500,
Gaming run through my veins!! Lol
I might upgrade my pc gpu as at the moment i have gtx760 but i will wait for the gtx1070 to go down on price!!!

Angeljuice3207d ago

NX isn't attractive to anybody but the most ardent Nintendo fans.

poppinslops3207d ago

I'm getting one and I haven't owned a Nintendo since the N64... Yeah, it won't sell as well as the Wii, but I think you'll be surprised by just how well it does - I know a few people that are planning on getting NXs that didn't own Wii-Us, Wiis or 3DSs.

Never underestimate the Legend of Zelda.

kraenk123207d ago

PSVR already seems to have a killer app with Driveclub VR. Not even wanna think about GTS.

poppinslops3207d ago

You mean Driveclub, the game that was so 'great' that Evolution got shut down?

When it became apparent that these companies were serious about VR, I figured games like Star Citizen, Half Life 3 and other 'real' games would be used to sell it - ala Halo on the original Xbox - but that hasn't happened... instead we've got a bunch of similar-looking 'experiences' and some tacked-on VR modes for games like Final Fantasy XV and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

At the very least I thought Sony would have had No Man's Sky made PSVR compatible, which was a hugely requested feature - or at least it was, before the game flopped - but even that hasn't happened... Call me crazy, but I just can't see very many people spending hundreds of dollars to play games like RIGS or Driveclub.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 3207d ago
Altovoltage3207d ago

And I'm pretty sure when the Scorpio releases Sony will be dropping the price of the PS4 Pro next holiday.

jb2273206d ago

That's the thing. It will obviously take some of the wind out of Scorpio's sails, because instead of seeing the jump in power as a huge gap between PS4 going to Scorpio, we will see the lesser jump of PS4 Pro going to Scorpio. Not only that but Sony devs will have had over an entire year head start to get a good grasp on the system whereas Scorpio specs are still being ironed out, so considering 1st & 2nd year software typically looks quite a bit better than launch software by & large and that launch titles are typically underwhelming compared to the later titles, that power difference may not amount to anything all that significant out of the gate.

Either way I'm interested to see what Scorpio is, but to all of the people acting like it's a foregone conclusion that it'll be some juggernaut, it just seems like putting your cart ahead of your horses. Remember when Kinect was revealed w/ all of these features like finger tracking that didn't even come about until the 2.0 version? Yeah, that's fairly relevant when fully trusting every claim from the same perpetrators of those kinds of falsehoods.

The spin is starting already.

MasterCornholio3207d ago

Sony said it very clearly.

Andrew House "But it’s important to note that the choice is yours. Whether you’re playing on PS4 Pro, the new slimmer and lighter PS4, or the PS4 system you bought at launch in 2013, you’ll have access to the same amazing games with the same features and same vibrant community that make PlayStation the best place to play," the post continues."

The PS4 Pro is another PS4 not a next gen system.

TwoForce3207d ago

Oh my god, thank you ! What people expect is just ridiculous.

3207d ago
Altovoltage3207d ago

People just love to complain about every little thing. Sony is giving everyone an option you can stay with the base model if you have one there's no need to upgrade if you can't or don't want to but the option is there.

S2Killinit3207d ago

Remedy is a MS affiliated developer. Some cant handle the truth it seems.

christocolus3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

Wow... Can't believe the spin going on here. Just few days ago many of you here were hoping that Sony does some last minute HW upgrade to the PS4 Neo to get it up to par with the Scorpio specs...and now that it's been officially revealed the narrative has suddenly changed to “Scorpio is next gen” but “PS4 pro is a continuation of current gen”. Why? Cos the PS4pro has been revealed to be less powerful than the Scorpio.... Lmao XD. Would you guys say this if Sony had delayed the PS4Pro and released it close to Scorpio and with similar specs? Lol. Yet it's been said over and over again that both consoles won't have exclusives, both will play current games and both consoles are higher spec'd versions of the current models but you guys prefer to spin it all the way.... Lmao XD. You guys are hilarious. Lol

LexHazard793207d ago

S2Killinit3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

@christocolus

@bakpain

joeorc3207d ago

@timotim1h ago
[No one is denying what Sony said is true. The problem comes in when people are trying to position Scorpio as something different when its exactly the same as well. The exact same sentence is true if you take this quote and replace the words PS with Xbox. Xbox One 2013, Xbox One S and Scorpio will all play the same library of games and use the same accessories. Both Scorpio and PS4 Pro are mid-gen consoles...its just that one is more powerful then the other.]

Except its not the same thing, 1st off Microsoft has no such commitment about VR for the xbox one , or the xbox one S..While they infact openly stated only the Xbox Scorpio will be the only system out in the Xbox's of the series that will have exclusive's that are VR..the other xbox one systems will not.

And again

As what

[Angeljuice53m ago
Microsoft have said that 3rd parties are free to produce Scorpio only games. You won't be playing those on an XBoxOne as it won't be compatible. ]

States this was infact said by Microsoft's very own PR representatives, that infact 3rd parties are fully free to make Xbox Scorpio Exclusive games.

Again Sony and Microsoft are not infact doing the very same thing.
Not just by words only but also by the very actions each company is or has or will be taking.

christocolus3207d ago

@S2killinit

Keep spinning it bro. In the other articles you've been going about saying PS5 will be announced as soon as Scorpio gets released. Lmao XD. Dude.. you are the one who believes Sony will release the PS5 a year or two after the release of the PS4pro and yet you're asking how old I am? The irony. Glad you aint in charge of running Sony. Lol. You are hilarious. XD

S2Killinit3207d ago (Edited 3207d ago )

what spin? Everything I'm saying is common sense. Look at the totality of the circumstances:
1) MS stating that they will "leave it up to developers to decide if they want to make exclusives for scorpio
2) scorpio having all VR titles exclusive to itself while the older xbox console owners will not have VR games
3) Sony stating that the PS4Pro is a "mid-generation" console and not a new console generation
4) MS stating that they don't believe in "mid-gen" upgrades
5) MS needing to reset the current market as they are loosing market share each and every month
6) fact that Sony's larger install base allows them to wait until MS makes the first move.

Why wouldn't Sony release their next console at the best most opportune time? Sony has the upper hand, they have their mid-gen console, and by the time scorpio hits in 14 months (if not later) sony has plenty of time to release a next gen console that is stronger than scorpio and force MS to be in that position without being able to escape with a new console until some years later. I think it would make perfect business sense for Sony.

KwietStorm_BLM3207d ago

So Microsoft took 4 short years to release the 360, and they're doing it again with the Scorpio. And people are all of a sudden ok with a new generation already? This gaming thing, I tell ya.

poppinslops3207d ago

How is it a new generation when both consoles play the same games?

S2Killinit3207d ago

Correction, all PS4s play the same games. Scorpio will have all xbox VR games as exclusive (older xbox owners cant play VR) AND MS already said they will "leave it up to developers if they want to make exclusive titles for scorpio".

So no, what you say is factually incorrect sir.

Angeljuice3207d ago

Except they won't. Pay attention to what Spencer actually said. Microsoft have "no plans" to produce Scorpio only titles, "however, 3rd parties may do so if they so choose".

There WILL be Scorpio games that don't work on XB1 hardware, it's from the frigging horses mouth.

If Scorpio sells well, Microsoft will drop X1 support in an instant.

poppinslops3207d ago

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the VR stuff - probably because I don't give a rat's arse about VR... I mean, as far as I'm concerned, some $#!tty VR 'games' don't make it a next-gen console either.

As for Phil's statement, multiplat developers won't make Scorpio exclusives until it's sold enough (I'm guessing between 10 and 20mil) to justify the cost of production... that said, they're almost certainly going to want to release Pro versions as well (#noparity), so it'll be interesting to see if Sony stick to their guns.

Either way, I don't expect we'll see any of these mysterious, non-existent exclusives before the announcement of 'Project Aquarius' (or whatever they call it), at which point the Xbox One will begin to be phased out... otherwise we'll just be stuck in the same gen forever.

KwietStorm_BLM3207d ago

I said what I said because now people keep saying PS4 Pro is an upgrade, while Scorpio is a next gen system. People are funny like that. I find it hilarious in general that people are buggin out over 4.2 and 6 teraflops like thats some amazing power output.

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.

Obscure_Observer said “I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimised chips" though? Seems ambitious.” To me, I interpret this to mean rather than having a couple of X/S products for launch and a handheld there is a longer term plan to release new products with higher specs at timed intervals. I’m speculating of course, but this could mean a spec bump every year or two, so that even if the PS6 or Steam Deck Home is released a year after ‘Xbox’ Microsoft can release an updated model that has a higher spec.

True, they have pretty different audiences..and some People just have both at home or a PS and a PC that emulates more or less everything from Nintendo.

Xbox hasn't been a competitor since the XB360. Last generation and this generation Sony has been running circles around Xbox. As for Sony vs Nintendo Sony runs circles yes but I don't really see Nintendo as competition. Nintendo does their own thing and it works.

Details are important. Console sales yes. Overall games Xbox seems to be doing fairly well in that department.

LoveSpuds7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

MS were doing so well that they had to start selling their games on their main competitors system which in turn results in around 30% of each sale going to Sony as the platform holder.

I do think tjat MS' fortunes will improve now that they are actually selling games rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar.

Something that occurs to me is that the more success MS published games have elsewhere, the more stark it will become that selling games is much more profitable than renting them. If that becomes highly noticable, I wonder what the shareholders (who ultimately run the show) will make of a service which has stagnated for years?

PlayStation doesn't compete with third party games, they compete on consoles. They profit from third party games. If you're not comparing consoles there's no point in comparing.

Console wars are over.

Eventually, everyone else will catch up to this fact.

attilayavuzer22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

I think it's all PS fans have left at this point. Console wars were always a competition for fourth place behind Nintendo, PC and mobile. If Xbox evaporates into a hybrid virtual platform, then PS will be perennially left in last place.

Christopher22h ago

Strange, I recall all those FCC documents and witness testimonies saying the exact opposite... Guess Microsoft doesn't know what it's talking about?

PanicMechanic11h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Great analysis. Just joking.

Pretending like companies give a f about where they “rank” against each other is just super retarded. This isn’t the World Cup.

Tell me, how does “PC” compete against a brand like PlayStation? It just doesn’t make sense at all. What you just said, is complete and utter nonsense

BlaqMagiq12h ago

I don't think PS cares about being in this so-called "last place" you came up with when they're making profits hand over fist.

microsoft wanted to crush sony into dust and they had the money to do it, but with such weak leadership it was always going to fail

Reaper22_22h ago

Had the money? They still have the money but the industry has changed since xbox 360. Microsoft is the number one publisher in gaming. I'd hardly call that failing.

IRetrouk21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

The industry hasn't changed though, just ms, Microsoft was the no1 publisher for a month in december 2024, the actual no1 for fy2024 was tencent if game sales are all that's being counted.

Profchaos21h ago

Money doesn't mean you'll be successful large corporations have entered and failed before like Nec
