Batman: Return to Arkham Side-by-Side Video Shows Major Graphical Improvements Over the Original

EB: Batman: Return to Arkham apparently also has a release window now thanks to the video, which lists the release date as October 21, 2016, so if it’s a global release fans can get it that Friday, or if it’s a standard release it should be available in the US on the 18th.

Nope, the character models in the "remaster" still look like shit compared to the originals.

brich2333203d ago

Its probably just a port of the PC version

Dark_Knightmare23203d ago

Can't be because they've remastered these in unreal engine 4 and they originally ran in 3

ABizzel13203d ago

@Dark_Knightmare2

You can actually port UE3 / UDK assets over to UE4, but it's a pain in the @$$ to do so. But considering this is a multi-millions dollar company with plenty of devs, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle, so it's still possibly the PC versions code, but remastered for the new consoles.

That being said the game is a bit hit or miss compared to most remasters.

The lighting, resolution, and color corrections are the biggest and most notable improvements. The new in-game texture work is better for the most part as well. But cutscenes look higher resolution, but have noticeably less detail.

What's the framerate for this?

Edvin19843203d ago

@cy your kidding right? I mean I don't care to buy this, but enjoyed the first game a lot;however, the visual leap is day and night. I say put your money towards something really important like an optometrist. I think you'll get a much better remaster that way.

Regards,

FamilyGuy3203d ago

The textures looks way better, there's just a lot more detail overall but it's also a lot darker which is good and bad depending on your preference.

Cy3203d ago

Look at the two Jokers. There is so much less detail in the new character model's face than there is in the older one. And look at Batman, the entire shape of his face is changed to make him look younger. The *textures* in most of the game look better, but the character models themselves look like shit compared to the originals.

Naughty_Cloud3203d ago

Look at Catwoman and tell me u don't see the difference!?

Lynx02073203d ago

I see. She looks better in original. In "remaster" she looks like a plastic doll. Environment is better in remaster though.

Naughty_Cloud3202d ago

@Lynx0207 that image tells everything, but hey you can continue to be delusional.

Ken853203d ago

The Jokers face lost so much detail in the remaster.

mkis0073203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

press play...the picture doewnt do it justice.

EDIT NVM you are right.

InMyOpinion3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

Both the Joker and Batman look downgraded in that cutscene.

Already played this game to death less than 5 years ago. Don't feel the need to play the same game again. And that's how I feel with a lot of these unwarranted remasters.

livedeht3203d ago

Batman extra wet edition lol

Rachel_Alucard3203d ago

At first I saw the images and thought the left was PS4 and right was PS3. Then I saw it was the opposite. What happened to all the details in the jokers model? Everything looks more saturated and darker on PS4. At least the wet textures are nice

Dark_Knightmare23203d ago

Holy crap I just watched the articles comparison video and wow does the games look so much better. The Joker in asylum was the only iffy thing compared to the original and I think it's because of what I assume is a filter they are using for the cutscenes but other than that my god the graphics are very much improved probably one of the best remaster jobs yet this gen.

The Worst Eighth-Gen Remasters

In an industry that grows increasingly reliant on remasters, few were worth complaining about, making the original versions preferable in most respects.

Not sure what happened with FFCC. They really bungled it big time. It's a shame too.

FinalFantasyFanatic1386d ago

I really wanted to play that one too, but after the demo I was disinterested in buying it.

ZeekQuattro1385d ago

Glad Square really likes putting out demos. It can help you dodge a bullet. Lol

Rangerman12081386d ago

To this day, the Crystal Chronicles remaster still left me with a sour taste. I really wondered how Square reacted to the feedback.

porkChop1386d ago

I thought the Prototype games had terrible graphics even when they first came out. Pretty crazy that the remasters essentially got nothing in the way of visual upgrades. A resolution bump. Yay.

Christopher1386d ago

Let alone Activision kept those prices at release price for a year before they even thought to reduce them in a sale.

Petebloodyonion1386d ago (Edited 1386d ago )

To me, this topic is pretty easy to answer as I recall laughing at loud when Bethesda announced that PPL on consoles (Xbox1 and Ps4) would need to buy Skyrim Special edition and it would be free for existing pc Owner because it was basically the same game at max setting.
I often gave this answers to numerous ppl who where happy about paying 40$ for cheap remaster that would have been free on PC by saying everybody wins PC players gets the upgrade for free because they never paid in the past for quick fix that a mod of graphics card could do and Consoles players get to pay because they love paying and defend the practice of paying (like the numerous I have a VHS tape of the movie why don't they give me a free DVD version).

So for me, any crappy Remasters that deserve to be on this list are the ones that only give a frame boost and resolution boost for a full-price experience from the previous generation. Now ill exclude compilations like Batman, Uncharted Trilogy, Bioshock Trilogy, etc. because they were actually giving you more than 1 game so I'll count them as a collection instead of remasters Nor should I included games that have complete remade graphics or add new playable elements (Metro 2033 Redux, Quake, Gears of War Ultimate)

Since there are too many games ill give some example that comes to mind: Heavy Rain Remaster, The Last of US remaster, God of War 3 remasters, Burnout Paradise city Remaster, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. Baja: Edge of Control HD, etc.

Again my main complaint here (has it was last gen) is that these kinds of remastering are now free (called performance patches now) but were sold at a premium price despite having almost no work to put in.

Xbox Game Pass Announces New Games - Alien: Isolation, The Walking Dead: Season 2, and More

Xbox Wire: "It’s true, constantly bringing more games to you is kind of our schtick at Xbox Game Pass, so let’s talk about the journey these latest additions took to get from us to you! We started with the customary good luck ceremony, during which we wrote heartfelt haikus in tribute to each game, and the social media team sang their rehearsal solos for the Xbox Game Pass: The Musical."

Nice adds. I like how their site has fun with the announcements.

lxeasy2307d ago

I heard really good things about the Alien game. Gonna check out. Another win for Gamepass

mark_parch2307d ago

alien isolation is a great game. I love how they stayed true to the original film with the late 70's sci fi vibe.

Estevez2307d ago

Alien: Isolation has the highest number of players who never finished the game - of all the games... this is why I never bothered with it...

gam3r_4_lif32307d ago

Alien isolation is great. It just needed some editing. If it was about 30% shorter it woukd have been a masterpiece

gam3r_4_lif32307d ago

@Estvez yeah because it got very repetitive and rather than them wrap it up and bring it home they added another 10- 15 hours of nothing new. But would defo check it out on GP if you never played it, it really is faithful to look of the movie and still looks great now

Greedsin2307d ago

It's a fantastic horror game, the Alien AI really keeps you on your toes.

I agree lots of great games.

Bnet3432307d ago

One of the few bright spots for the Xbox One is the Xbox Game Pass. I am waiting for them to be the Netflix of gaming. Even for new titles. That's the goal. That would be so awesome. That's like their main selling point.

Bronxs152306d ago (Edited 2306d ago )

The native 4k triple A 3rd party games like far cry 5, shadow of tomb raider, red dead 2 and metro exodus is also a selling point to me. and backwards compatibility with some 360 and OG Xbox games get free 4K patches like half life the orange box and KOTR. Also More and Better free games with gold and you actually keep the Xbox 360 free games forever. And they offer pretty good ones I’ve filled out my gaming library with good titles like South Park stick of truth for example. The controller and 4K blu Ray playback are nice as well.
And while they don’t have the best game library of all platforms there are still pretty great games that can’t be played on a Nintendo or Sony system like games in the halo Forza gears franchise and new games like ori and the blind forest quantum break from remedy sunset overdrive from insomniac. Plus looking forward to new games from ninja theory.

But your right game pass is a big plus. Getting titles like doom, hitman, shadow of the tomb raider, rise of tomb raider, fallout 4, rocket league, alien isolation, resident evil revelations, plus all first party Microsoft games is a damn sweet deal!

Greedsin2307d ago

It's shocking how much speed Game pass has picked up recently. The selection of new games is great so far.
