For the uninitiated, the original Hand of Fate, created by indie developer Defiant, was part action RPG, part collectible card game, and part Dungeons and Dragons. Sure it had some rough aspects, like the oh-so-frustrating combat mechanics and those damned awful poison shooting rats (I’ll always remember you, you bastards), but its uncommon blend of genres turned out to be a tremendously fun and addictive experience and I found myself gritting my teeth, snapping a few controllers that failed to dodge in time, and loving (mostly) every second of it.
