By making its games available it's cut its potential buyers by alot.
Sure you'll buy a Scorpio. But will it go main stream? Will people spend that much? Will pc/xbo owners buy a Scorpio, or just use the money to buy better stronger hardware....I mean think about it for a sec...pc/xbox gamers no longer need an xbox...especially when they can buy the parts for less and end up with a more powerful pc than a Scorpio.
So all you've done here is make a console that's appealing to console only guys....even more the console guys with pockets deep enough.
Lastly this will make some xbox only guys who are thinking of going pc actually go pc. That way they can enjoy all xbox and pc has to offer. By making your exclusives into Multiplat you've did that in a gain of software and a loss to hardware. The more losses the xbox sustains the more likly they'd stop making them.

Protip: MS will sell windows in any case....xbox is considered a windows machine and it's numbers will reflect on windows sales. Windows level of importance to MS is obviously over xbox since day 1 of og xbox...but now they are not focused on xbox hardware. They are Lazer focused on win 10.
So if you are a console only gamer, you need to realize that a pc focus is the future of the xbox brand.

It seems crazy but some people treat these consoles like their "God". You can say anything about them if it's not positive or just straight up praising them. Happens on both sides. Scorpio's jump in specs almost appears to be a new-generation in disguise. Microsoft has bare-face lied before and promised things that they didn't deliver on. They've also cut generations short before, so would it be any surprise to see Scorpio be the new generation? Just a thought.

What you're saying about Sony being in the driving seat is true. They don't need to march to the beat of Microsoft's drum. Bringing out Scorpio with the message of "most powerful" is their admission of defeat, and the fans celebrating it are admitting as much after defending inadequacy for so long. If Sony does react to it and change their plans, I think that would be a weak decision, but they would still benefit from it as the market leader either way. If nothing changes, the PS5 should be delivered when the PS4 generation is coming to a close.

Seems they are already manufacturing PS4 Neo's so it looks like they will go forward with their current specs. They might boost the CPU clock speed maybe. I don't see them launching another new console for at least another 3 years from now. PS5 in 2019 most likely. By then Microsoft will be ready to upgrade the Scorpio.

It is because we have a die shrink, as we went from 28nm to 14nm. That is why price is lower, and performance is so much more up. The next die shrink is 10nm, but they are struggling to get there, and as the numbers imply, the change is smaller than previously. That means performance increase isn't as high, and the price lowering isn't as good. Every die shrink has taken longer and longer to get there, and Moore's Law no longer hold.

Hence why a new console from either MS/Sony after this is going to be a long while. Think 2019-2020 at the earliest. Then the console war is reset once again for another mid-cycle upgrade.

I think both Neo and Scorpio will struggle. It's too late in the cycle to be offering upgrades. By the time Scorpio releases everyone will be waiting for the real next gen machines.

I've bought every PlayStation on day one since the original, I have no desire to get a Neo whatsoever.

I'm more than happy with what the PS4 has to offer (I'm never sitting there thinking "I wish the machine had more power"). We haven't even reached the plateau yet (where the limits of the machine become obvious and defined).

MS needs Scorpio to succeed to salvage anything from this generation. Sony have already proven successful, Neo is just a cherry on the top.

What'll be interesting is what the final specs look like. The specs will likely be a little higher because the leaked specs were from a dev kit and not the final product. The final product almost always have more power. Look at the PS4 and Xbox One, their devs kits had 4GB of ddr3 ram. Both were upgraded to 8GB for the final product and Sony even suprised everyone with gddr5.

Things like CPU Clock Speed, RAM, HD space can always be tweaked. But the CPU chips and GPU chips would have already been mass produced at this point so they would basically be stuck with whatever they chose originally.

That would depend on how "off the shelf" the components are.

If the Neo drops any custom tweeks and just uses standard PC parts, then it could easily be upgraded with very little time required.

NEO doesn't need to answer anything to Scorpio. NEO and PSVR will help Sony to maintain leadership of the console market with this current generation while Microsoft already gave up and is forced to produce a new next gen system who is not going to take Sony dominance of the market and which is going to be easily crushed by PS5.

If Microsoft and its community believe that by having a powerful spensive console they are going to take the #1 spot, they are going to face a rude awakening as by history, we all know that power alone will not do that.

Don't think Microsoft cares about the #1 spot at this point. They aren't going to catch the PS4. I'm sure they just want to get more XB1 into consumer's homes. They know gamers want a game console that is powerful and can run all their gamesat 1080P or better @60fps. That's what they want to deliver. They have VR in the back of their minds. They want to see if the PSVR is successful before they go full in with VR. Most likely the Oculus will work on the Scorpio before Microsoft decides to release their own VR headset. Right now the Oculus and Hive aren't doing spectacular. They might have sold over a million, but I'm sure they were hoping for 3-4 million in the first 2yrs. We'll see what the PSVR does.

I say depending on release date there'ss always the chance that Sony goes for an extreme overclock with the hardware they already have. The gpu they are using can get to 5.5 tflops with an extreme overclock which would be completely acceptable for a console releasing before the Xbox Scorpio. Sony seems pretty good at building hardware I'd be surprised if they couldn't think of a cooling system that couldn't handle a 1300mhz + clock rate instead of 900mhz. Wouldn't hurt if they struck some sort of a deal with arctic cooling slap some mx-4 thermal paste inside the neo drop temps 20-15 degrees Celsius and would prevent the premature hardening that plagued the launch ps4.( Anyone who has a super loud ps4 prob has faulty hardened thermal paste.) Once thermal paste hardens no matter the brand temps increase by 20 degrees Celsius. Usually after 2-3 years with extreme overclocks.

The reason console components are under clocked is to fight the high Temps. Overclock in a small box with crap cooling and your neo won't last a day. Overclock a console with proper cooling and the casual gamer will complain that the box is to big and sounds like a jet engine

Those people already own a XB despite knowing the PS4 is already the more powerful console, but it didn't make them go out and purchase the PS4 did it?

Exclusives are the selling point for hardcore gamers. Power is just a bonus. PS4 having the best version of games mostly earlier didn't affect Xbox owners and played their version just fine

I can't help but think that Sony is about to drop a bombshell! Truthfully I don't think it was ever stated that the PS Neo absolutely was/has to release this year!? For all anyone knows Sony could just wait for a release closer to Scorpio's release. On top of that the PS Neo specs haven't been verified by the one's who's input actually matters, Sony themselves.

The actual official unveiling of the PS Neo would be the headliner, as well as release window, price point with game running on it.

Those things can be revealed without actually associating or revealing actual specs associated with the PS Neo, thereby putting the ball back in Microsofts court.

It's too late for Sony to do anything but slightly overclock their hardware. It's not the end of the world, why are people freaking out about this?

Because Sony said beginning of this gen going back to 2013 E3 reveal power is everything that 1080p and 60fps make you better gamer and been bragging about how powerful ps4 vs xbox now it the other way around and people freaking out including Sony themselves .

Now it all about the games which Ms been saying since 2013 that resolution doesnt determine if a game good or bad but Sony said no it does in fact give me 1080p and 60fps or give me death.

And also too the people keep saying sorcpio gonna be $800 or 1k
how the hell being 2TFlop more equal 4x the price of Neo.

Even if next year's Scorpio turns out to be faster than the Neo I won't mind all that much. Did all the Xbox fans mind all that much the past 3 years they got the lesser versions of multiplats? Or did that mentality change now too all of a sudden and now power does matter to them?

I don't know. The worldwide sales race is pretty much over. Buy the systems with the games you want to play on them. Both companies still want consumers to buy their products. It's that simple.

Once again...

Neo is a console that no one asked for, console gamers have been very happy and satisfied with the current PS4 (killing the console market for nearly 3 years) if anything more exclusives and games is the thing that everyone wants.

Neo is a console that I I have stressed on many times it by stating that it will be carrying over the PSVR vision. Yes I know that you don't need Neo for VR, but once a full VR AAA game is released, it will absolutely need it, there's no freaking way that this PSVR will be able to compete with Scorpio as we know based on MS e3 Fallout 4 will full VR meaning that they'll be using either Oculus Rift or HTC sense hints why the console is based at 6TFls, there's no way the original PS4 & VR will be able to keep the competition going with those specs unless they use Neo .

Will they leave first PS4 buyers?
Well that's only a matter of time because I highly doubt that 3rd party developers will be showcasing their new games or working projects on the original PS4 when they can easily show you the best looking gameplay on the Neo.

I mean how many times developers were caught showing PC gameplay as a console game in order to attract bigger audience (Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs) so eventually Neo will become the new standard is only a matter of time.

The same thing goes for Microsoft there's no way with Scorpio being out to prevent for developer to invest most of their time and resources on games that will eventually will look better on this "premium/luxury/optimized " option of consoles, so I call it straight out BS.

The Scorpio will also not be able to do native 4k. The difference will be between something like 1800p on Neo (if the leaked specs are true) and 1980p on the Scorpio (if they can reach 6Tflops) and then both upscale to 2160p...

I never saw PS4 Neo as doom and gloom. I was wondering how they would release ALL this hardware (PS4 Slim, PS4 Neo and PSVR) within a 6 month span and expect gamers to buy it all at once. If anything the PSVR seemed more like doom & gloom because VR has never been successfully marketed for home use. It's always been a niche market with VR.

I don't know why everyone is acting like the PS4 Neo is out and all confirmed. Maybe they won't even show it during the next event, who knows? Or maybe yes. But until then it's all speculation.
Sony didn't confirm anything at all. And showed even less... but we're lucky, plenty of Nostradamus around.

The only thing that I've heard from rumors that would suggest that is that Sony developed three different NEO prototypes. Each one with a different level of power and aimed at a different price point. Rumors also said that the leaked specs was based off the second prototype and that the third is the most powerful and expensive one.

But again it's just a rumor.

King trash that was a nice post and has lots of truth to it. As far as these other comments iv been reading from Sony fans they're utterly ridiculous. All of a sudden now it's not about power? When since the ps3 Era am even more so with the ps4 it has been about how the ps4 is more powerful than the xbox one and it can do only 1080p don't make me laugh. Now that MS is coming out with a new powerful system power doesn't matter smh u Sony fans are hilarious and contradictive.

Who says they'll be a ps5? Sony themselves said this mite be there last system. So whole u guys are hoping that the xbox brand go's away keep in mind that Sony will be right behind them regardless of sales because realistically they're not doing to we'll as a business as a whole not to mention with more people gaming on smart devices the gaming industry as a whole is changing. Lazy devs, dlc's, half ass rushed games, no new ips, online only games and remaster are only killing the creativity of the consoles. Soon it'll be only nintendo standing (which is the best and only creative company that can save gaming once again) when the smoke clears. Nintendo is the only company that understands where gaming is headed and need a fresh idea.

As far as xbox go's they made a huge mistake with the xbox one before it was ever released and now they're feeling the sting from Sony. MS should've kept the same marketing team, strategy and manager that was in charge of the 360 last gen they would've snowball rolled over Sony this gen just like they did with the 360. The same blueprint 360 used last gen to put a whoopin on on the ps3 last gen is the same page Sony is using with the ps4 not to mention they acquired Microsoft's marketing guy that was marketing for the 360, do you see the trend yet?

Lastly yes I do think Microsoft is giving up on the console race solely because they failed miserably with the xbox1 so that's why they're going all out with the scorpio. If the scorpio does well then I guess they'll stay in the console race and keep making consoles but if you ask me what the scorpio is going to be is what the xbox one should've been. As for sony, the ps4 was already doing well the neo shouldn't even exist. I think a part of the reason for the neo even surfacing was because of the fear that nintendo was making a more powerful consolewhich was dubbed the NX, not so much about the Scorpio. SNY put themselves in a silly situation no matter what the competition was doing they should've waited.

I find it funny that people think this stuff can be changed so quickly.

There is months of hardware engineering, months of testing, and months of manufacturing design that goes into each console build not to mention contract commitments and lead time for developers to take advantage of the console's new specifications. Swapping specs on any device is at least a 10-14 month process assuming the company is willing to endure the costs of changing. It is difficult once decisions are made to radically change. Look at the original Xbox One. It was clear from the start their specs weren't up to Sony's. They changed the software substantially to deal with the negative feedback they got, but chose to live with Kinect and the small ESRAM implementation because they were too far down the road.

The best time to change specs is during the hardware engineering part, but the issue is they are trying to keep everything secret so the competition doesn't know the strategy. Sony probably looked at the original Xbox One strategy and thought MS would pursue cheap and cheerful. But, they didn't take into account the management changes at Microsoft from the top down to Phil Spencer. So, they designed a console that was in line with what the competition had done. Problem is, Microsoft realized their problems the past many years and are now going back to the basics. It is funny... Last generation Microsoft started strong, then made bad decisions (RRoD, commitment to Kinect, less first party commitment to core gamers)... This generation, Sony started strong and have made many bad decisions lately (Flip-flopping on the Pay-to-Play network, axing first party studios, ignoring EA Access, and under spec'ing the new console). Both companies still have a lot to learn!

I don't think it's a simple matter of Sony not looking at MS management changes. They are both trying to get to 4k but its just not feasible once they started the hardware planning (at least for Sony, if Neo releases this year). MS is in a better position with power because the architecture to support 4k will be cheaper and more available in 2017

Neo is clearly under spec'd as a 4K system. Scorpio is even questionable but will probably 4K most titles.

I think that the release of these consoles is more about maintaining sales momentum. It is clear that the current consoles are starting to slow in sales. So, they need to release new ones to spur sales. Until I see these consoles and their support of 4K I will wait. Unless most AAA titles ship in 4K they are simply not worth it.
