Why ScreenGurus Kuma doesn't think the PS Plus price hike is justified as things stand.
Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.
My personal opinion:
Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.
From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.
Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.
They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.
They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.
About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.
SEGA has made a mistake on one of their PDF forms which has inadvertently disclosed full sales numbers of some of the company’s key software releases.
Don't forget they've put a lot of these on gamepass and ps plus so you can add that money to it. Good to see Sega going strong
Happy for sega ! I was expecting some kind of showing of their newer games at game fest but maybe they’re keeling it for TGS? Crazy taxi and jet set needs a trailer or something soon !!!
Release Phantasy Star 5, Shining force 4 or Skies of Arcadia 2 and look at the number after.
Amid rumors it was looking to sell Eve Online developer CCP Games, Pearl Abyss has given a statement to Insider Gaming.
The price hike is bull, and sony will receive major flack for it.
....but seeing that xbl costs the same, I'd say both don't add up.
Playstation and Microsoft online services are becoming just that... a pass into online play. Outside of that I expect to see even less and less free games as times goes on. As it stands now both consoles have been scrapping the bottom of the barrel for most of this generation.
It depends on what they add to the experience: if the quality of the PS+ titles goes up, or they'll start offering a few movies as well each month, or better deals on new games or DLC, then it's fine.
If it remains as it is right now, where every month we have more and more people complaining about the lack of quality titles being offered, I can see an increasing backlash happening.
Not defending it, but didn't Sony say it was due to the market changes since 2010, when they 1st introduced it?
ie: the value of certain currencies dropping?
I'm sad to admit that the price hike probably is justified. When the service first launched for $50/year, it offered very little. Then the Instant Game Collection came around and suddenly $50 seemed like a steal. Then the PS Vita was added to the service at no extra cost. Then the PS4 was added to the service for no extra cost. So for those of us with all 3 platforms, we are now getting 6 free games each month for free, 72 games a year. Some are good. Some are not as good. But when you factor in the sales and other benefits, $60 a year is still a really good deal.
