normally i'm all for having the creator's vision for a game be influenced by only their own creativity. MY problem with this new final fantasy is that square seems to not be able to make up its mind, drastically removing characters, delay after delay. Also the main party seems to have little diversity, whether its in their gender, how they look, or how they act. I'm not a fan of the dude road trip driving a car in a final fantasy game either.

This is just my opinion but this movie appears to be a harbringer of doom for FFXV. I'm going to hold off on this game or pick up when its rock bottom price.

2, not delay after delay, it was delayed once that we know of, from september 30th to november 29th, a delay isn't when it takes longer than people expected based on nothing.
3, the characters are diverse enough in their personalities,

1. Yes Stella was removed, along with a party scene from the demo changed. She was supposed to be a love interest but not anymore. They added Luna but she is a npc and not a love interest.
2.it was delayed several times, and last week they issued another delay of the game.
3. Playing the whole game will tell that, but from what i've seen they all seem similar.

TL;DR summary of the article:

-every ff game had female characters that had growth/development
-this film didn't (won't go into detail since it will spoil the movie)

My only complaint is that the games are 30+ hours long, which gives it enough time for development of any characters, whereas the film is roughly 2 hours, which is hard enough to have an rpg lore into that time frame. Secondly, the film had bad reviews, and I didn't like since it was just a cut scene fest with no depth. The author can't complain about the lack of female development when there wasn't any to begin with for any characters (male as well) in the film.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but seems it's more about the events leading up to FFXV, and as such, focuses on the non main character roles that lead up the events which make the story for FFXV. If there are no women of consequence to that story...which from what I've seen there hasn't been since it was still Versus XIII, then why make them into some pivotal character in the movie, with their own large story arch, huge character depth, and spend a significant amount of time on developing the character which is already probably pretty pointless to the plot.

In the film business, I believe those characters are called supporting characters, and no more time is given to a male supporting character which has no purpose other than to drive the main protagonists or antagonists and allow them a space to portray their motivations or be able to express actual story narrative which is somehow important to the story.

Hardly anything to be offended about if the story doesn't include them because they're just not part of the story. It's just as offensive to include them as "meaningful" when there is no need to.

As of right now, I can only think of 6 male characters in the FFXV game proper. Can think of 3 females, although I'm not sure if one still exists(been avoiding stuff about the story).

So far, the cast of characters for FFXV in general is rather offensive just as a FF fan, because it's rather limited. Couldn't care less about their gender. So long as the story is cohesive though, and lives up to what I"d expect from a FF game, it won't really matter to me if they're all female, male, or chocobo's.

I feel like these criticisms are valid criticism that come from a Final Fantasy fan rather than someone with a political agenda (perhaps it's a combination of both ) I didn't read part the past where the writers warn of spoilers. Certainly the likes of Yuna were strong female characters , so is it really too much to ask to have memorable female support characters like Yuna as the author demands?. I mean even compared to Cloud, Noctis seems pop culture. I wonder if the comment section will explode when writers criticise the male characters too.

Final Fantasy fan or not, she is offended at the lack of female characters, and the lack of the development of the female characters that do exist. Why is she only offended by the female cast exclusion, and not the overall casts exclusion in a 90 minute movie, whose focus is Noctis' father, whoever the antagonists is, and the events which lead up to the FFXV game proper?

Political agenda or not, she's basing her criticisms on her predisposed belief that FF must have strong female characters, and they must be well developed as if this particular movie is somehow indicative of the entire over reaching themes of FF, or meant to represent the general overall merits of what FF traditionally delivers. Whether or not she is doing it for an agenda or not, her impetus for writing the article is to focus on the lack of female characters and their development, while only giving a cursory nod to the notion that the whole story is pretty weak. I dunno about other FF fans, but it seems they tend to take more offense at a weak story and poor character development as a whole, and not get so offended over the diversity of the cast. Just look at FFXIII, where the biggest complaint isn't the lack of inclusion, but the weak story and characters. In fact, not until recent years have I really seen that much grievance with the casts diversity at all...with the most egregious matter I can think of in the entire history of FF is Barrett being highly stereotyped, and the somewhat silly pop idoling of the all female cast of FFX-2.

The plot wasn't smart enough to have a woman problem. It was void of anything we could base a critical theory on. I was at the premiere and asked a question of the director during a Q&A regarding real world politics and how it may have played a role in informing and inspiring the plot. I was basically given an answer along the lines of "We wanted fans to relate to Nyx and see that he's really good with magic and can do cool fighting moves."
