1UP: Dragon Quest: Ye Complete Dragonography
The Dragon Quest series is big in Japan in a way that would leave Alphaville green with envy. The kids may love their Final Fantasy and Pokémon, but everyone plays Dragon Quest. Yet the series has been slow to catch on overseas — a nine-year absence in the ’90s certainly didn’t help matters — but Square Enix seems determined to turn its fortunes around. Their latest effort is Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, a DS remake of the series’ classic NES finale with just enough nods to contemporary design to be wholly addictive…but not so new as to alienate longtime Dragon Quest fans, who tend to be a fairly conservative bunch.
DQ4 is just the iceberg’s tip, though; DQ has more than two decades of history behind it, and 1UP has compiled a complete listing of every significant entry.
