GamersMark Review: Neutopia
Brandon Salcedo Writes:
"If it looks like Zelda and it plays like Zelda, it’s probably Zelda, right? Hudson Soft’s 1989 Turbo Grafx action-adventure, Neutopia, has all the makings of Link’s first quest and even shamelessly copies elements from it. Instead of the brave elf boy, Link, we have the valiant mysterious hero, Jazeta, who instead of finding the nine pieces of the Triforce, must track down the eight medallions, and free a powerful princess and her country from the clutches of the evil wizard, Dirth. Played from an overhead perspective, with the ability to slash your sword, or block with your shield in four directions, you’re going to notice the uncanny similarities right away. But you’re not going to care. Neutopia copies Zelda’s formula, but it copies it very well. It is obvious the developers have deep respect for Nintendo’s adventure series and they’ve done a great job at recapturing its spirit and its tight gameplay, right down to its push-the-block puzzle design. But it offers enough ideas to hold its own, and it’s just solid fun."
