Denuvo fixes bypass exploit, pirated games can no longer be activated

Two days ago, we informed you about a bypass “crack” for id Software’s DOOM. This bypass, created by Voksi, used the game’s demo in order to trick Steam into thinking that PC gamers were playing the demo itself instead of an illegal/pirated version of the game.

It will be fixed again.

and then cracked

and then fixed

it's an endless cycle

Activemessiah3244d ago

....then cracked again o_O

neoandrew3243d ago

Nope, cuz the cycle end when it is cracked, at least for single game, then even without updates, it is playable.

KTF263243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

this bypass method is more likely steam exploit
steam think your legit user or something like that
no one can use this method again because they fixed
like cheating in online games cheaters need to find another way when devs fixed the old method

but a real crack for the game released after they exploit fixed

glassgannon9093244d ago

It got cracked minutes after the patch.
Like an actual crack, not a bypass.
Its kind of funny when you think about it.
Also, no, this cant be patched...they can amp up their security for future games but not the previous ones.

cleft53243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

What this really did was reminded hackers how much praise and status they get from taking down places like Denuvo. Vorksi was given god like status for just a bypass, which admittedly took a lot of skill. I am sure Vorksi and others knew this would be patched and they where expecting it. The question is, what did Denuvo team reveal in order to patch this game? If they revealed something valuable, which is almost certain they did, then it could spell the end of their dominant status.

As it stands, Rise of The Tomb Raider is now fully cracked. I dont think it will stop just there, the next few weeks should be really interesting to say in the least.

CPY team who cracked Denuvo back then (Lords of the Fallen, Arkham Knight, BF Hardline) already cracked Rise of The Tomb Raider. Cracked, not bypassed.

And they said Just Cause 3 will be cracked within a week.

RIP in Piece Denuvo.

Lonnie183243d ago

Eventually technology will be in place that is out of reach and uncrackable by human standards...so have fun now while you can lol!

Skate-AK3243d ago

You know that RIP means 'rest in peace?' You didn't have to put "RIP in Piece"

Eiffel3243d ago

Probably intentionally meant to be redundant. It's a meme afterall.

freshslicepizza3243d ago

"As Voksi noted, at least 600K gamers were able to play/test the bypassed Denuvo games in the last 3 days."

holy moly, lots of pirates out in the sea

Always has been, always will be.

It’s definitely an upgrade, not sure about massive.

Grilla11h ago

It is massive compared to the switch 1. 6-10X the power, but compared to current standards it’s the bare minimum.

RedDevils11h ago

It's just a minor upgrade nothing special. Could have included the Oled screen but greedy Nintendo have something planned for it already.

Yesyes10h ago

Oled screen means nothing when people have OLED tv's.

Rage779h ago

You are self aware of how dumb and "sheepy" that tagline of "greedy" sounds like at this point in time, right?
Every little entitled twat on the internet has used it ad nauseum, as if all of a sudden you somehow struck gold or something. it ALMOST sounds as infantile as the other meme vomit brain rot: "Defending the billion dollar company, blah, blah" FFS. tell me its "irony" at least what you are trying to express, so at least i can give you some credit for being "clever" or bold. I refuse to believe you ACTUALLY believe what you are saying, unironically,

repsahj10h ago

Great review! We have almost the same impression of the Switch 2. I don't care if the screen isn't OLED, because when I put it next to my friend's Steam OLED screen, they barely deviated in quality.

anast10h ago

Better than the Steam Deck not as good as the other consoles on the market.

As someone who has been gaming nearly as long as gaming has been around (since the early 70's), you'd think I'd be against this. Having grown up with all the major platforms and the whole notion of physical ownership... but I'm not. i embrace this as it is a revolutionary convenience. And one i know for a fact many (especially here) have not even given the fair chance to use. I get it... i was there too. But now i have a new outlook on it. It really is a hell of an option if you just want to play with no commitments. By no means am i saying this should replace traditional gaming, its an option. And one that people should look at optimistically as a way to compliment traditional gaming. There is room for both to thrive.
