Awesome lists of different types of gamers. If you can't find yourself on the list, you obviously don't play video games.

Core Gamer here. It's hard to balance college, work, gf and game but for the sake of gaming, I pull through.

Guess I'd fall into the core gamer. An avid gamer, but I need to devote time to my other hobbies too (music/reading), as well as my social/personal life and work. I've not been a big online gamer for years, I played UT2004 online for long periods (10 hours one day) and after considering myself l337 enough I respectfully retired and resumed my lurid sexual practices :p. I still get sucked into games, I played through all of God of War 2 the same day I got it. I got ridiculously good at Fight Night Round 3 and also still do challenge runs through Ninja Gaiden on Master Ninja mode.

Alas, I find less and less time to play games these days. I take mini-challenges with retro-games, I've beaten the original Megaman games 1-4 this summer and I'm trying to beat Ninja Gaiden on the NES again (I forgot how RIDICULOUS the difficulty is). But I find I haven't the time to get sucked into a great RPG or adventure game any more. It's saddening, but thus is the nature of life, eh?

They forgot hardcore gamers who are searching for artistic or intellectual values in their games.
They see games as art and they are deeply involved with the storyline. They are looking for games that will give them deep emotions like Metal Gear, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Chrono Trigger, etc, but also very complex and philosophical games like Fallout, Metal Gear (again), Strategy games where you must build and expand an empire, etc...

Hardcore gamers have seen games that would make Speilberg and Peter Jackson unworthy of having all those oscars.

I started an MMO when it first came into america.... Cabal...

I was catching up pretty fast I could pwn a majority of the people without even using combos. I ended up getting hacked, everything gone. So I tried regaining it all (I poured months into it) I made it back to level 106, and I quit. Too many douches were wayyyy to high in level and it's really sad, because if that was a FPS or something it wouldn't matter if I got hacked, I could still be good but now I wasted months of my life for nothing. It wasn't even fun, I was waiting to reach the maximum level and almost did it...

I'd say I fall between core and casual, I have a decent knowledge of the video game industry today but dont really know or care about the history like the "first video game console". However I dont play every day and I havent finished some of my games yet like Oblivion...but I did finish GTA!

I currently own 18 games spanning the PS2, PS3, XBOX 360, and sadly, the Wii. I had to play Twilight Princess!

..That's what I would assume. I can't be casual. I play for about 2-4 hours a day/night. That knowledge part just threw me off. I'm 19. I've never seen an Atari 2600, nor do I know if I even put up the right numbers there. The first video game console I played was the Nintendo.

The article states that the "Heaviest" of gamers play MMOs. You can be a Heavy Gamer if you play COD4 or Halo a lot. Also, knowing the basic knowledge of your gaming history makes sense. Its annoying when you talk to people who claim they know a lot about video games but claim they used to own a copy of Marvel vs. Capcom for the N64.

BTW, the Magnavox Odyssey was the first video game console. Atari created Pong and the rest is history.

maybe if i spent all my money and time on games / gaming then i could be "hardcore" or whatever the correct wording is there lol but i enjoy other things as well, like eating and sleeping... alot...

not to mention i think with the price of everything these days, it's hard for someone to stay on top of a particular genre / play most games out there. at 60 bucks a pop, you either would have to make a sh*tload of money and barely work or rob people for a living lol.

but either way, whatever people set out to be, good luck!
i know for me personally, being a core gamer is awesome.
