I don't handle motion-sickness very well, and normally I'd avoid any type of event that could possibly cause it, but damn; the whole thought of being fully immersed in the cockpit of a spaceship and engaging in space dog fights is something I've dreamed about since I was a kid. I don't know if Virtual Reality will take off like all these hardware manufacturers are banking on, but it sounds like it has more potential now than ever before. I may have to hit up a retailer to try it out. I just hope they have a bucket nearby!

I've found most people can learn to get over the motion sickness. You can start with Google cardboard and try out some of the more tame experiences. Keep at it and try watching progressively longer and more extreme 360 videos. I think you'll find you'll soon get used to it.

TheDude793242d ago

Thankfully, during my demo, I did exactly that...adjusted to it. Hopefully others will be able to as well, but I'm sure there will be those who unfortunately won't be able it. It's not a perfect technology, but it's impressive none-the-less

kneon3242d ago

@TheDude79

Yes I'm sure there will be some people who will never get used to it. But I've seen people who couldn't last more than a few minutes progress to where they easily spend an hour in VR.

amiga-man3242d ago

yeah I'm in the same motion sickness boat, but I have waited too long for VR to become a reality and have pre ordered my PSVR, I'm sure there will be plenty of great experiences for me to enjoy, and who knows over time I might get my sea legs, or VR legs so to speak.

Either way VR is only going to grow.

S2Killinit3242d ago

It would be similar to sea sickness, as its the same phenomena. Sailors get used to it, and so would you.

On the bright side, gamers would now make good sea men.

fatsodubmo3242d ago

They already do...all over their keyboards!!!!

Zing! Wakkawakkawakka!!!

S2Killinit3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

Ahahaha probably.

I knew that was going to happen. Even seperated the words: sea & men

Gamist2dot03242d ago

After about 15 seconds in, I think your excitement and curiosity will mask your motion sickness.

rainslacker3242d ago

You get used to it after a bit. Just gotta start slow, and stop when you feel a bit queasy. After you do this for a few hours, you shouldn't have any problems. Even if you are prone to motion sickness in every day life, VR isn't actually motion sickness, so the effects don't persist like other things that may cause motion sickness. VR motion sickness is caused by the sensory delay from what you see and what your body/brain expects to happen, whereas real motion sickness is caused by the disorientation from constant movement that your body/brain can't adjust to properly.

Glad he enjoyed it.

Hopefully VR (in general) does very well.

Very good read! I think there are 2 types of motion sickness: There is the type of motion sickness that is actually caused by the games frame rate or other factors. And then there is the type of motion sickness you get from a game like ever that actually does such a good job of tricking your brain into believing you are in a space ship, rolling, flipping and moving at high speeds. I played Eve VR on the playstation and I also felt a little bumpy in the tummy, but it was totally different than the type of motion sickness I used to get from playing non-vr games like Medal of Honor. Playstation VR is for real and October 13 can't come soon enough!

TheDude793242d ago

Yeah, it wasn't like full on motion-sickness, just a little uneasy at first. Like you said, it's speaks volumes to how immersive the experience really was. A game like Rigs will probably be incredibly intense at first, but damn does it look fun!

sammarshall1023241d ago

I have a feeling VR will be like 3D gaming and motion controls all over again

VR will be dead within a few years then in the future when the tech is there someone will create a new headset that will actually be good

Jayszen3242d ago (Edited 3242d ago )

Good to read another PSVR experience which has again turned out to be positive. The minnow of the VR world is winning fans and its technical shortcomings (when compared with the Rift and Vive) do not seem to be an obstacle. I do think that VR will be very successful, not only in gaming but other aspects of our lives such as medicine, travel and education. My closest friend who is disabled is looking forward to VR both as a gaming tool as well as to enable him to experience things that he can no longer hope to (such as skiing, travelling to remote parts of the world, etc.). I suspect the PSVR will be the first release and as VR industry matures and adopts common technologies, we will see further iterations from Sony that will improve the experience even more. I am so impatient for October 13th!

King_Lothric3242d ago

Another good PSVR experience. I am glad to hear that the majority, which is what matters, are having a good time with it. I am ready for it and my only concern right now is from all the games available at launch, which one to buy.

sammarshall1023241d ago

The hype has died down tremendously just look at how much less you hear about the Rift and Vive

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.

Literally, the vast majority of these games aren't flight simulators. Don't write about what you don't know.
