Overwatch: Could Sombra Be Revealed At Gamescom 2016?

Overwatch’s Sombra has been the fuel for anticipation in the gaming community recently. The supposed stealth character that is eventually going to be introduced in the game and has been teased time and time again by the game’s developers and the game director for Overwatch Jeff Kaplan. While the whereabouts and the availability for Sombra still remains and unanswered question, let us have a look at the details that we know about Sombra so far.

It has been known that Sombra is a known associate of Reaper and possibly connected to other characters in the game as well. The name was first mentioned a pre-beta stream for the game. Ever since then, there have been several hints and clues in the game that have led to widespread speculation about the character. The bulk of these clues and hints have appeared in Dorado since it has been known that Sombra operates from there and is possibly touted as the game’s first stealth character. What is more is that there is a line for Reaper in the game that says “Where is Sombra when you need her?” and he says this specifically when he enters Dorado.

The trail for Sombra was reignited with the reveal of the game’s support/sniper hero, Ana. In the reveal trailer, there is brief flash of two encoded messages on screen which were decoded by people later on and this revealed that Sombra is the 23rd playable character in the game. What is more is that the developer update video for Ana has also dropped several hints for the upcoming character leading to further speculation about when Sombra is actually going to be released. It is worth noting that Kaplan, in many different interviews, has mentioned that Sombra is a character who likes to play hide and seek and this is the character has dropped several hints in the universe, in both the game and the comics and origins story about her whereabouts and has mentioned that there are still many undiscovered facts about here out there.

All of these hints and clues have been confirmed as official by many sources on the internet and Kaplan has confirmed that “Sombra will let people know when she wants more to be known about her. She’s very good at that sort of thing”. This statement has led people to believe that Sombra is a stealth based character and more recently, a new clue popped up on the internet which has reignited discussions and speculations. Now, with the internet and many players searching for clues on Sombra, it is being speculated that the character could finally be revealed at the upcoming Gamescom 2016 which is set to begin from 18 August 2016 and is going to last for a total of four days. Are we going to see Sombra at the big game event next month? Or is she going to continue on the path of giving us more clues and hints of her presence in the Overwatch’s universe? All of this is speculation at this point and for now, we can only wait for more proofs on Sombra’s existence or wait for more geeks on the internet to find out about more clues and hints from the developers and Jeff Kaplan on the new character.
