I don't know if all this talk is doing any good but keeping the possibilities for foul play in the spotlight certainly couldn't hurt. I just think Sweeny looks way too "tinfoil hat" with all of these "possibilities" of a tyrannical MS.

uth113255d ago

It's not like it's unjustified though, MS has killed competitors in the past in just the ways he predicts, and has tried to take take control of everything, especially the web. This is why there are so many anti-Microsoft people around.

Personally I don't think MS has the power to get away with it anymore.

Just look at iTunes to see what he's scared of. You've got a system set up that prevents anyone from making money without giving a good lump sum of it to iTunes. Spotify is even having their app removed by trying to get people to sign up for accounts on PC, where they get all the money, as opposed to forcing people to sign up on iTunes.

The closed store market has some very shady sides to it. I hope people keep questioning these things so we don't see it become the norm. I think the issue with Steam and the like is also two-fold, UWP isn't really easy to update when you have a library of hundreds of thousands of games relying on old standards and you have to develop an app to support all those and keep them UWP-capable...

Sweeney makes good points that has a solid basis for them. I wouldn't put it past Microsoft for them to use Windows 10 to hurt your steam client and make it not work or not well at all purposely.

morganfell3255d ago (Edited 3255d ago )

Personally I do not wish to wait until MS is in a position to simply flip a switch and then we must rely on their good graces not to do so. Particularly when they have shown they are willing in the past and it is in their best financial interests to do so. What kind of shortsighted person lets a megalithic corporation reach that threshold?

“ Nintendo Switch 2 still dominating in Japan”

Such a strange headline. I mean it’s a brand new console released on June 5th. It would be weird if it wasn’t still dominating in sales.

wesnytsfs2h ago

I figure its dominating everywhere. I stopped with consoles this gen sticking with PC and the switch will get 99% of the games this way.
