Star Trek Beyond is the rare Trek film that should appeal to both mainstream crowds as well as the Roddenberry devotees who own every episode on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD and Blu-ray (raises hand). Justin Lin brings a new eye to the final frontier, particularly in the epic space battle involving the Enterprise, while Pine, Quinto, Saldana, Urban and the rest all get their moments to shine (some more than others, of course, with Urban really coming into his own this time around as the wry Bones). I can think of no better way to celebrate Star Trek’s 50th anniversary than with this film, which embraces everything that’s great about the series.
