I have high hopes for Miyazaki

Alexious3271d ago

Me too, but now I expect a radically different game. From Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 3 it was basically the same game over and over again.

Don't expect him to abandon the framework entirely. King's Field, and its spinoffs like Eternal Ring, were the predecessors to Demon's Souls, and were still 1)quasi-medieval, 2)centered around making specific decisions with slower animations for each swing/spell/etc., and 3)super tough and open to the player to explore.

Miyazaki's biggest strength is how he brings art direction, sound design, and effects together to create an overall atmosphere. I think he really took up the atmosphere mantle from where Castlevania and Metroid left off. My guess is that you'll see a lot of Souls in the mechanics of a new title, but a completely different and equally frightening setting.

I would like to see what he can do with a different genre and same type of game, like a shooter perhaps.

Like how Fallout is the shooter cousin of Elder Scrolls, both utilizing the same type of game design and amazing in their own regard.

Feedback is always something that helps developers and publishers work towards the right direction.

Chris_Wray3271d ago

I can understand where he's coming from. He got his start by taking control of an already failed action-rpg project, he turned it round and made Demons' Souls. This led to DS. It only makes sense that he'll remember the origin and be willing to take risks.

MoveTheGlow3271d ago

These new Miyazaki interviews have been so encouraging. He's clearly in this for the right reasons and will do everything in his power to make a great game out of his visions. It's refreshing in a sea of titles that suffer from annualized sequelitis due to really bad management decisions.

Alexious3271d ago

Indeed. I'm personally rooting for a new Otogi game!

MoveTheGlow3270d ago

Oh man, that would be crazy. I think he wants to go with new stuff, though...

Risk is good for gamers but makes studios nervous.
