Nvidia's GTX 1060 Defeats Radeon RX 480 According to Leaked Benchmarks

Leaks all over! Abiding by the recently leaked specifications for Nvidia’s Pascal-based GTX 1060, a pair of 3DMark Firestrike benchmarks has been slipped out and it’s believed that Nvidia’s GTX 1060 will outrun Radeon RX 480 by a margin of 15%.

And it will be $200 more so what's your point?

WaitForIt3222d ago

just pointing out the fact?

ninsigma3222d ago

So you're saying it's going to cost more than the 1070??

And according to this leak, it'll be just 20 dollars more than the 8gb rx480.

Circuitburnout3222d ago

I live in Canada so our pricing is completely screwy

2pacalypsenow3222d ago (Edited 3222d ago )

Who cares about Canada? Everything there is more expensive the avg price of the 480 is over $300 in canada

mochachino3222d ago

I also live in Canada and agree that we get price raped on most things.

Prices don't seem to come close to the exchange rate.

No It's going to be between $249 - $299, so at best $50 more than the 4GB 480, at worst $100 more.

So price is still slightly in AMD's favor, and price:performance are neck and neck. The real downfall of the GTX 1060 is that 3GB of RAM, games are really starting to need 4GB minimum so it's already behind in that regard on the low end model almost forcing people to get the 6GB version if they want the card to last. And if the 6GB version is closer to that $299 price, the 480 is still hands down the best price:performance card out there.

$199 for GPU performance that was just high end, several months ago is a huge deal.

I'm more interested in the 1050 ti, RX 490, the 1080 ti (and the 460 / 470 prices).

I want to see if the 1050 ti is an evolution of the 750 ti's plug-and-play style GPU with unrivaled wattage again. But offering at least GTX 960 performance. The 1070 is offering Titan performance at 970 tdp, the 1060 is offering 980 performance at 960 tdp, so the 1050 should offer 960 performance at hopefully 750 ti tdp.

The Rx 490 I simply want to know if AMD is stick with price:performance for Polaris, and we see a high end card challenging the 1070 (Fury level performance), but with a $300 price (which would be insane).

The 1080 ti for the first real 4k capable GPU, but $699.

And the 460 / 470 to see the performance and how cheap these cards are going to be, considering the 480 is already mainstream 1080p master at $199. (460 $99, 470 $149).

ONESHOTV23222d ago

what chart are you looking at the 1060 has 6GB

ABizzel13222d ago

There's 2 of them.

A 3gb and a 6gb version.

CryofSilence3222d ago

No, it will likely be in the $240-300 range.

Errorist763222d ago

No way. Most likely 250-280 max.

ninsigma3221d ago

Ah I see. Assumed American dollars.

Is the 15% improvement over the 4gb or 8gb rx480??

OpenGL3222d ago

I wouldn't take 3DMark results too seriously, they're easily influenced by drivers and are not an accurate reflection of performance generally. I have no doubt that the 1060 will be very competitive with the RX 480 in DX11 games but it's going to be slightly more expensive and only available in 3GB and 6GB configurations. It will probably lose o the RX 480 in DX12 games using async, but it will also use significantly less power.

Software_Lover3222d ago

Meh, if the 490 doesn't impress me (price/performance) then I'm just gonna a 1080 once the price gauging goes away. It will fit my 1440p needs perfectly with room to spare for a more extra years.

ninsigma3222d ago

Yeah I'm waiting for either a decent price on the 1080 or the 1080 ti. Prices for 1080 right now are stupid.

babadivad3222d ago

I think AMD was surprised by how high NVidia was able to get their clock speeds. They were building Polaris under the assumption that Clock speeds would stay relatively flat. Nvidia turned that upside down with some 1080s being able to safely OC to an insane of 2 GHz. It seems like this is going to be a trait of all Pascal cards as well[super high clocks]. If clock speeds stayed in the Maxwell range[or somewhere around there] AMD would've been a LOT more competitive with Polaris. Clock for Clock Pacal is actually a little slower than Maxwell. Difference is Maxwell could never clock as high as Pascal. Good job Nvidia.
