Why mods coming to consoles is both a good and a bad thing

When Bethesda announced at the 2015 E3 that Fallout 4 would be coming with mod support, there was a loud cheer from the audience. However this might not be the great thing it’s cracked up to be.

good article missing FNIS/SKSE is going to be a big hit to console modding and also i dont trust bethesda i get the feeling they will try the pay for mods again but this time with console owners becuase they know they are not as vocal as pc owners and they can get away with crap like that.

s45gr323276d ago

That is what worries me in regards to paid mods on consoles. Is true console gamers are not very vocal 😨

MatrixxGT3276d ago

They were pretty vocal about MS original idea of X1.

Tharbad1233276d ago

Thanks, and I think the paid mod idea is dead for now. Being a PC gamer for a few years and heavily into the modding scene, I can tell you it was an absolute disaster. It might happen, but I doubt it will happen soon.

Yeah the SKSE and FNIS issue is a big one for me so unless this new Skyrim can cope with that then we are going to be very limited on mods

I prefer consoles all day everyday dabbled in pc games over the years, but the one thing I am truely jealous of is the modding scene on pc of consoles ever get half way to having mods half as complex as pc mods I will beat the shot outa that monkey! Ps4 xbone way too limited I know maybe neo or Scorpio??

PSN_ZeroOnyx3276d ago

Coming to consoles? Unreal Tournament on PS3 had mod support. This isn't a new Idea that has yet to come, I just fear paid mods for consoles.

Tharbad1233276d ago

In my defence, I never owned a PS3 or XB360, and I was talking about Next Gen Consoles, in truth. I know mods have been used on previous consoles but not in which context. See my previous article for where I came back into gaming 🙂

xtheblackparade3275d ago

The bad thing is it can brick your console , pc gamers always take that risk because the platform allows them to expand content themselves but with the risk of burning your CPU/GPU with bad programming. I don't want that shit on my console haha, watch out, know the risk.

Tharbad1233275d ago

Yeah, I mentioned that too. It's fairly easy to strip mods off a PC but Consoles, if it's badly made then even an uninstallation can leave residual files, how do you remove them off a console? Unless somebody invents a mod that cleans them up. Even then it's not 100%

I think i made the mistake of giving Mama Murphy too many chems. Because I could never get my settlement past 98% happiness, and it even cost me the Platinum.

Fallout 4 on Switch 2 seems inevitable, but what about Starfield?

A Fallout 4 Nintendo Switch 2 port seems like an inevitability, but what about other Bethesda RPGs like Starfield.

I think all games will end up on switch from Xbox. MS has embraced going to other platforms now if games aren't doing well on Nintendo MS may be more selective in the future

On playstation they have been quite successful

anast75d ago

I'm not sure too many people want to play Starfield.

Profchaos75d ago

Phils all but confirmed they are going in hard with the switch 2

TheColbertinator75d ago

All are welcome to Switch 2. Microsoft Games Studios is interested in long term profits and market value not petty fanboy thoughts.

Starfield is actually a RPG. Bethesda hasn't done that in a while.

GhostScholar177d ago

People acted like starfield was so less interesting than fallout and drastically different, but I call bs on that. Both are decent games, but they are both filled with the appearance of things to do and items to interact with but 99 percent are just there to be there with no significance. Fallout has better character work but they are both sort of illusions that they’re vast.

Studio has been going downhill since Skyrim. Every following game gets dumbed down more than the previous. I'll be shocked if Elder Scrolls VI even has dialogue options.

anast177d ago

Fallout 4 was bad, real bad. Starfield might even be a better RPG.

trez1082176d ago

Fallout 4 wasn’t a great fallout game per se but real bad? I don’t know maybe I’m a little biased because I replied it not long ago and had fun with it.
