Is Resident Evil 7: The Beginning Hour as effective as building excitement for its full game as P.T. was?

Not even a contest. P.T hands down

naruga3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

^^exactly ...PT is masterpiece and the other is an abysmal copy of the also uninspired Outlast with RE 7 name stuck on it...

-Foxtrot3243d ago

Yeah I mean even though P.T was basically Silent Hills there was rumours they game was going to be third person and possibly have in door environments be set in first person. Then you could get over the fact it was called Silent Hills not Silent Hill meaning it could be a new reboot franchise

With Resident Evil though it's still RE7 and they've totally changed it into a new IP. Why couldn't they have taken the RE Remake and use that updated stuff for the new one.

naruga3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

@ Foxtrot ..Silent Hills was inspired by his excellent predecessor Silent Hill 4 (second best Silent Hill after the 1st one imo)..Kojima is not a random guy , he is indeed talented developer seeing that has done his "homework"and study which Silent Hill was the scariest and had the best most inovative elements in it ....also as you say Silent HillS-PT would be indeed a TPS with FPS parts (exactly as SH4) ..

in the other RE7 is a tragelaphic try probably from some new in age devs to mimic what they considered scary and atmospheric..dropping everything that made RE1-3 good (even the use firearms) under Shinji Mikami;s direction/advising .... shame just shame

DeadlyOreo3243d ago

I thought the RE teaser was good. Am I the minority?

TXIDarkAvenger3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

"^^exactly ...PT is masterpiece and the other is an abysmal copy of the also uninspired Outcast with RE 7 name stuck on it..."

it's Outlast not Outcast. Not that you would know since you haven't played either.

jessionpc3243d ago

Yea it's pretty shitty how they blatantly copied the Silent Hills teaser... It's almost the same fucking experience with a twist. But that's the industry. Look at what COD inspired.

Meh, P.T was more scary at first, but it also got old super quick.

RE trailer, the moment I realized you could change things in the past, and discover new things in the future, manicans kept changing, calls kept changing, the finger, the doll, the instance of 7 everywhere...

I don't know, I felt REALLY uneasy 5 hours into the game still trying to figure it out, every new possibility, made me feel vulnerable... P.T didn't.

Summons753243d ago

P.T. Nails it but Resident Evil 7 did an amazing job capturing a horror atmosphere and the old style RE puzzles were nice to have included as well. Re7 is gonna be my birthday game :)

theFAYEsorceress3243d ago

imo, pt was more scary because it had the supernatural element and was trippy af. the res one had great atmosphere, but that guy at the end just looked like a normal old guy, so that kind of ruined it for me. they were both very scary though. just ghosts are more scary than humans, imo lol

AntsPai3243d ago

There are ghosts in the RE7 demo, don't rush to the end and play it differently, there's alot of secrets to find. Although, I agree, p.t is the scariest by far, psychologically it is like a nightmare. I had to play it again after getting hyped for Death Stranding, still scary as heck.

brianunfried3243d ago

P.T. is the most terrifying video game experience, it freaked me out so bad I couldn't finish it. It has raised the bar for all horror games.

Good-Smurf3243d ago (Edited 3243d ago )

I never finished P.T. and it's sad that I can no longer play it even though the game is still in my PS4...
P.T. just simply tormenting my soul, rape it and shit all over me inside out while RE7 teaser is just scary not a pant shitting experience like P.T. but they nailed it being scary in a much more manageable way.

brianunfried3243d ago

I had to make the hard choice, upgrade my hard drive or keep PT. I upgraded my hard drive now it's gone forever.

AntsPai3243d ago

@brian you can upgrade and keep p.t , I upgraded to a 2tb a few months ago and I played p.t last night. I did a backup of my hdd, although apparently there are ways to download it still, Google it or go to the 7880s community on ps4 they had details on how to download it again there.

HarryMasonHerpderp3243d ago

I thought PT was a way better demo in everyway. Longer, scarier and more realistic graphics. Still looking forward to the full RE7 game though. I love this demo trend, it needs to be encouraged. Ground zeroes should have been a free demo.

jessionpc3243d ago

L...LONGER?!?!?

No man, i'm sorry, but no. P.T was beaten in 2 hours, people STILL don't know how to get the real ending, what to do with the doll finger, if you can get downstairs ETC...

You just ran to the end and thought, "THAT'S IT?!?!"

Try going back to the past in the tape... and trying... things. See what happens in the NOW.

HarryMasonHerpderp3243d ago

It is shorter. You can finish the demo in about 5mins if you skip the video. I'll admit I didn't realise there were different endings though and I have been trying to get them today. No idea what that dummie finger does, looking forward to people finding out what it's for.

Resident Evil Fans Discuss Whether They Prefer First Or Third Person

Players have long debated the merits of third-person as opposed to first-person perspective in games and the topic has recently resurfaced on Reddit, this time concerning the long running Resident Evil series. The discussion so far has generated somewhat heated opinions from users on both sides of the argument.

Resident Evil has a long history of using both perspectives, with some entries in the series like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 offering players a third-person view, while others like Resident Evil 7 provided players with a first-person perspective. Some fans believe third-person allows for better visibility and control over the character, while others believe that first-person immerses you more deeply into the game's atmosphere.

Third always

It's what it's always been and how it's meant to be played whether it's fixed camera angles or over the shoulder.

Rockstar738d ago

There was a time when I would have agreed but if you've got a vr setup the 1st person RE's are on another level.

That being said, they can both exist because they're both fantastic.

Babadook7724d ago (Edited 724d ago )

Exactly. If there was no VR version available or possible I’d say 3rd person. But because of the extreme heightened immersion, VR trounces the flat screen version, so 1st person please.

Sonic1881738d ago (Edited 738d ago )

They should have the option to have both going forward imo. But I do prefer third person view

Levii_92738d ago

I love both and the new mainline RE games should stay in first person for at lest one more game that’s why i hated that Capcom for some reason added third person in RE8 .. like why ? What was the point ? It just lost what made the new games unique and different. Re7 is a gem and already such a classic, it’s RE1 of this generation or well the prevous generation i guess i should say and RE8 is bonkers and so fun. Such great games.

Goozex738d ago

First person. It just ramps up the intensity for me

The remakes are good examples

Resident Evil 2: "Here's how you do a remake"

Resident Evil 3: "Here's how NOT to do a remake"

NecrumOddBoy876d ago (Edited 876d ago )

I think RE3 was actually pretty good but just short and flawed a bit. If Capcom would’ve just put the RE3 campaign and it’s dodge mechanic into RE2 (maybe called it RE Raccoon City Chronicles) and placed the the game in a canonical order LEON A, CLAIRE B, JILL C; then dropped the multiplayer nonsense, it would have been the most perfect package. I enjoyed RE3’s ties in to 2 and they streamlined it well. It just was a flawed deliver.

-Foxtrot876d ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it was a good game but compared to RE2 it was a step back

It was lazier, felt rushed, shorter in comparison and totally the wrong way for Capcom themselves to do a remake

Luckily they got the memo because I'm sure I read RE4 was supposed to be done by the team that did RE3 before they rebooted development.

RE3 needs a directors cut, it needs to be longer, they need to include the choices, add the other locations in by expanding/reworking the current story and also rework how Nemesis works. I want to explore more the city, even if areas have nothing to do with the main objectives and only exist to explore for collectibles or to find new gear.

staticall876d ago

Punching huge bolders while being in a volcano sounds cool on paper, but looks very dumb.
More QTEs = worse experience (RE6 mostly)
Sometimes big doesn't mean "better" (RE6 bosses mostly)
Not every game's suppose to have a multiplayer component (RE3 remake, Umbrella Corps). But sometimes it just works (Outbreak)
Small stamina bar for melee attacks is dumb (RE6)
Locking better skills behind drip-fed skill point drops is awful (RE6)
Do not give your flagship IPs to outside studios. But if you did, heavily control the game quality and direction (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City)

FallenAngel1984875d ago

For me Resident Evil’s biggest impact on the gaming medium will always be that over the shoulder control scheme pioneered by RE4

Death in the Family: A Look Back at Resident Evil 7

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "With Resident Evil Village out imminently, it seems like an ideal time to revisit its immediate predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a game that steered the franchise back to its roots. After replaying the game this past week, I can say with confidence it remains one of my favorites in the long-running series, due to its scary and disturbing atmosphere, challenging boss battles, twisting narrative, breathless action, and old-school survival-horror gameplay. It's certainly not perfect — there isn't much enemy variety and the final boss is a letdown — but overall it's a great game worthy of the name Resident Evil."
