"supernatural elements" exactly there capcom, you killed RE for good ...i dont know what to say about your stupidity .. you destroyed one of your best franchises , part by part ..for me Capcom has lost any credibility as developer, becoming another garbage developing company....good luck with your Outlast copycat

(ps just for reference i remind you Shinji Mikami's original direction for RE series was to NOT include any supernatural/paranormal situations or adversaries as these elements were already over-cliched and over-saturated even from that time , instead choose a more believable and grounded story/plot which actuated to be the backbone of RE series and the reason RE became an instant success....

pompombrum3285d ago

Well Capcom didn't get to where they are today by making good decisions... I'll reserve judgement for when we have seen more of the game but it's as if they saw the fan reaction to PT's cancellation and thought "hey we can be the super awesome developer who gives them that game" but what made PT special was that they had not one but two geniuses working on it, Capcom stand as much chance of replicating that as I do of stepping into the boxing ring and being Floyd Mayweather JR

Ashunderfire863285d ago

Love your analogy dude lol! Classic right here:

"Capcom stand as much chance of replicating that as I do of stepping into the boxing ring and being Floyd Mayweather JR. "

Niceman913285d ago

This is very disappointing news. Resident Evil isn't about supernatural elements. Capcom totally ruined Resident Evil and has been dragging it through the mud since Resident Evil 4. Don't get me wrong, a great game in its own right, but it changed the franchise for the worse.

MooseyXTC3285d ago

Good thing they say in the article that "there is more to it than that" citing that it will be explained with elements rooted in the series!
I don't believe supernatural elements have ever been rooted in the series, so methinks you didn't take 5 seconds to think before writing this hokey rant.

Hold_It3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Exactly. People are jumping the gun too hard. Then again the Resident Evil fanbase is probably one of the worst communites/fanbases I've ever seen. There was a lot of negative reaction like this when Resident Evil 4 was first announced. You got people who are like RESIDENT EVIL WAS NEVER FIRST PERSON HURRR DURRR, and it's like Obviously you haven't played all the Resident Evil games, because both Survivor games, and Dead Aim were both from the first person perspective. Granted all three of those weren't anything more than meh imo, but with the technology they have now, it is very possible they can finally nail that.

Resident Evil has never been about ghosts, and while I do understand that criticsm that most people with the knee jerk reaction are having, Resident Evil has always grounded itself into some kinda of realism and has always been about science. I doubt they would be going to ghosts, and even if they did, I think it's a welcome change. There's plenty of things in the demo and trailer that link the game to even the first Resident Evil game, "foul play suspected" on the newspaper (this was also on one of the newspapers in RE1, or RE2 iirc), the photo next to the phone (not going to spoil what it was), is a huge reminder that something we wanted to see is back.

They said that this demo was going to be just a concept teaser, and that the full game is not going to be nothing but corridors, no combat system, etc. They want us to go back to playing an actual vulnerable character, and what better way to make you immersed by making the game first person. No more superhuman Chris, Jill, Sheva and other characters like that, we are new characters that have never experience anything like this before. I look forward to the release in January, and hope many others can be as open minded as I am with the game.

Niceman913285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Just my opinion and I'd wager that Resident Evil 7 moves even further from the series roots. I'm not saying it'll be a bad game as the demo was very good and I'm likely to buy it, but I just don't like the direction Resdient Evil has taken since RE4.

EDIT: my main concern and disappointment is that Resdient Evil 1, 2 and 3 were great games with a wholesome story and I don't like the direction it took afterwards and believe they should have instead created a new IP.

zombiewombie3285d ago

I'm thinking the guy you play as is infected and trippin balls.

suli123453285d ago

This game will fail and im praying it does so capcom the fucking bastards can finally learn. They killed resident evil and they killed dwvil may cry, some of my 2 main games in the world. Rubbish rubbish rubbish, I'm so pissed at capcom

Hold_It3285d ago

Wow, what an asshole you are.

Austin483285d ago

Get a life and quit trolling u are on most of these comment sections complaining go play cod since that probably what u wanted in the next RE game either way grow up and have some common sense this game will do great better then RE6 because it has more people interested about its concept.

CorndogBurglar3285d ago

You truly are insane if you think this game will fail....

NarooN3285d ago

RE fanbase, stay classy. Didn't really matter what Capcom would've done, there'd be tons of doomsday rants like this one posted everywhere. Yet the games always ended up selling like gangbusters anyway.

Hoffmann3285d ago

Who knows..maybe it will be a great game, better than the last RE games.

But aside from that I would never pre-order a Capcom game again after my experiences with Street Fighter V and will wait for reviews and full dlc plans. Capcom became one of the shittiest game developers out there, able to destroy one of their once great IP's after another.

jessionpc3285d ago

Meh, it's definitely different but lets be honest here man...

Were getting angry about ghosts, because of how ridiculous it is...

IN A FKN ZOMBIE GAME.

I know it's not a part of the series we've seen before, but i'm going to give it a try before I shoot it down without giving it a chance.

SwagginMcdoodles3285d ago

While I get what you are saying, Wesker can fucking teleport in RE5: https://www.youtube.com/wat... and if that doesn't scream supernatural I don't know what will.

CorndogBurglar3285d ago

To be fair, Wesker could teleport because of the abilities given to him from the virus...which was made by scientists.

Supernatural generally means things that exist naturally but are above most people's normal comprehension or beliefs.

SwagginMcdoodles3285d ago

@CorndogBurglar yea you probably right, but there has been some weird shit even if it's not Supernatural in RE series. And there still might be something supernatural that I can't just remember.

ShadowKnight3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

The more I hear the more I like. Their trying to make the game scarier.

jessionpc3285d ago

Yea the teaser as much as I hate cryptic garbage like P.T, was really uncomfortable for me. I was pretty scared. It felt great. Moving forward, and finding an axe and feeling a little bit of safety, and knowing there will be combat, was great.

BigBosss3285d ago

Supernatural elements isn't something new to the RE series. If you look back at RE4 the japanese version that was first shown off but was later down the production was changed completely, that had supernatural elements like ghosts, moving objects, dolls and so forth and it was freaking intensifying. It would actually be good for RE7 to have this feature.

Here is the video: https://youtu.be/jGRZwypXMF...

Lf_sIcKmAn3285d ago

People seem to forget the direction resident evil 4 was taking initially... I think this will bring new life to a franchise that really needs it... Supernatural Horror can work... https://youtu.be/M7DawKHk3H...

sdcard4gb3285d ago

Yeah, once it ditches cazul First Person view and implements proper fixed camera and MLG pro tank controls.
Filthy cazuls haveno right to play my Resident Evil :D

PurpHerbison3285d ago

Supernatural stuff has no business in Resident Evil. This is clearly a cash in on P.T. failing. Next are they going to add Big Foot? Maybe while you are running away from Big Foot you can stumble into a lake and fight the Loch Ness Monster? Maybe after you get out of the lake you can run up a snowy mountain and fight a yeti. Sprinkle some ghosts here and there.. Forget all about those dumb zombies right?

sdcard4gb3285d ago

It IS kind of strange to just add supernatural element to a Resident Evil universe after 20+ years of constantly fighting and being scared of actual, real results of horrible inhumane biological experiments... The actual integrity and universe consistency seems to take a major blow...

jessionpc3285d ago

Fuck yea man, and after being chased by the Lock Ness Monster! We'll like! Run into a house! HAHA...

THEN GET EATEN BY FUCKIN ZOMBIES.

Think about it man, Ghosts aren't half as retarded as you act like they are. With all honestly, at least ghosts might be real in reality. Are zombies?...

jessionpc3285d ago

@sdcard4gb so your saying that in order for something ridiculous like zombies, we need some kind of physical inside the box thinking reason for it, like experiments? Even though zombies are retarded, and most certainly don't exist. But hey, a VIRUS!

Yet we can't acknowledge the possiblity of ghosts?... Which countless people at the very least believed to have seen in REAL LIFE. Truth or not, it's fucking everywhere.

Whens the last time you saw a zombie filling up at a gas and gulp?

CorndogBurglar3285d ago

Did no one read the actual article. The dev clearly said that it will have supernatural elements, BUT THERE WILL BE MORE TO IT THAN THAT AND IT WILL BE BASED IN THE GAMES ROOTS.

That tells me its actually not going to be actual ghosts since that has never been a part of RE.

Kyosuke_Sanada3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

The thing is that Resident Evil 3.5 wasn't super natural per se, Leon Kennedy was infected with the Progenitor virus so he was losing his sanity because of this. If a similar incident is in 7 then I would be okay with it.

Hold_It3285d ago

There are a bunch of needles and things on the table, so that could support that theory.

sdcard4gb3285d ago

This doesn't make me excited, this makes me cautiously enraged. And no, not because of "supernatural elements" (because they were playing with those back in RE4 "Fog Version"), but because it has the mothertrucking First Person perspective !!!
WHY ?! For Christ's sake, what's so wrong with fixed camera and tank controls ? Why should every single fucking body jump onto the Amnesia/P.T. bandwagon !? What about the combat ? Or is there none ? What is it ? Escape and hide shit again ? I am really bored by this shit, I want to be afraid, but I also want to fuck up my horrors as well.

I hope Mikami unveils The Evil Within 2 on TGS, I really need more of that...

Chaos_Order3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Weapons have been confirmed, and the demo has an aim assist option, hinting at guns in the full game. I don't think it'll be like Outlast. (I hope not...)

KyRo3285d ago

Outlast is probably the best Horror Game to beat in recent years. Not being able to attack was the best thing ever. It made you scared for your life.

TXIDarkAvenger3285d ago

Let's face it, first person is much more scarier and we want a scary game right? Feels like a logical move to me. Weapons have been confirmed and the actual game won't be like the demo.

PurpHerbison3285d ago

It is only first person cause they are betting on VR being a success. First person doesn't automatically make a game scarier.

Kyosuke_Sanada3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Perspective is pure preference and there are tons of first person horrors as of late compared to third person horrors so it would have been nice to stay traditional. It isn't a logical move, they are just copying PT just like how Revelations 2 was trying to hard to get the Last Of Us fanbase.

TXIDarkAvenger3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

@Kyosuke_Sanada

Still logic to follow PT's success.

@PurpHerbison

It puts you into the game though. And if you played the demo, its a lot more horror-like than the recent RE titles.

sdcard4gb3285d ago

Scarier or not is a matter of subjective opinion. What's for sure is that First Person always limits players and developers to a set type of horror presentation - there is no way to set up the scare the way it was back in RE Remake, for example, there is no teasing players with directorial fixed perspectives towards certain objects a scare could come out, there is no set up....
For example, Silent Hill 4: The Room, right ? You can say whatever the fuck you want about it, but you cannot deny that it was absolutely ingenious that Team Silent guys fixed the camera view the way you weren't able to see the giant Eileen Galvin head in the St. Jerome Hospital unless you went all the way through to the end of a long room and were then presented with a fixed view of... whatever the fuck Walter dreamt up thinking about Eileen and you were like ":O I didn't fucking expect that" and you just sat there without an ability to move, thinking about what the actual fuck you just saw.
You can't make such a scare with First Person view camera.
I can go into a deep analysis, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say - First Person has become too frequent and as the result basically erases the cultural and stylistic special features of the original horror games, like, in this case, Resident Evil !
We can't let this happen ! There should be stylistic variety and certain artistic integrity, for fuck's sake...

zombiewombie3285d ago

The series hasn't been good for the past couple of games. This change may be for the better or worse, but the demo feels good so no complaints from me. Give them a chance to actually show the game too, since the demo won't be part of the game.

sdcard4gb3285d ago

I gave them a chance, not impressed.

jessionpc3285d ago

Drugs buddy?

EVERYTHING is wrong with fixed camera and tank controls. They fucking SUCK. REALLY.... REALLY... bad... *sigh*

...C-combat?... What?... WHAT?... You find a fkn AXE in the game dude...

Meh whatever...

sdcard4gb3285d ago

Suck because you and people like you are bad at them ? Because I am not. And why the fuck should I let my gaming series succumb to tendencies that have no point being there so that somebody like you would enjoy it ?
Nobody is making Dark Souls's combat easier so that some bitches get to play it, right ? Why the fuck should RE change it's perspective and controls only so you feel okay ?
Get off my lawn, boy.
Go find your own gaming series to play, don't touch mine.

CorndogBurglar3285d ago (Edited 3285d ago )

Read the article, because you clearly didn't. There is combat.....

sdcard4gb3285d ago

And what about fixed camera ? Tank controls ?
None of those ?
Not interested. This is supposed to be Resident Evil, not Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Gatsu3285d ago

Someone is a bit salty. Relax and wait for the full game before crushing RE7.

sdcard4gb3285d ago

After DmC: Devil May Cry, MGSV, all the shitty Silent Hills, and a slew of pathetic Resident Evil titles you have to excuse my outmost hate.
I didn't train myself to hate, the gaming industry did it itself.

Resident Evil Fans Discuss Whether They Prefer First Or Third Person

Players have long debated the merits of third-person as opposed to first-person perspective in games and the topic has recently resurfaced on Reddit, this time concerning the long running Resident Evil series. The discussion so far has generated somewhat heated opinions from users on both sides of the argument.

Resident Evil has a long history of using both perspectives, with some entries in the series like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 offering players a third-person view, while others like Resident Evil 7 provided players with a first-person perspective. Some fans believe third-person allows for better visibility and control over the character, while others believe that first-person immerses you more deeply into the game's atmosphere.

Third always

It's what it's always been and how it's meant to be played whether it's fixed camera angles or over the shoulder.

Rockstar780d ago

There was a time when I would have agreed but if you've got a vr setup the 1st person RE's are on another level.

That being said, they can both exist because they're both fantastic.

Babadook7766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Exactly. If there was no VR version available or possible I’d say 3rd person. But because of the extreme heightened immersion, VR trounces the flat screen version, so 1st person please.

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

They should have the option to have both going forward imo. But I do prefer third person view

Levii_92780d ago

I love both and the new mainline RE games should stay in first person for at lest one more game that’s why i hated that Capcom for some reason added third person in RE8 .. like why ? What was the point ? It just lost what made the new games unique and different. Re7 is a gem and already such a classic, it’s RE1 of this generation or well the prevous generation i guess i should say and RE8 is bonkers and so fun. Such great games.

Goozex780d ago

First person. It just ramps up the intensity for me

What horror franchises could learn from Resident Evil

Resident Evil has remained the most popular horror franchise in video games for a long time. These are the reasons why.

The remakes are good examples

Resident Evil 2: "Here's how you do a remake"

Resident Evil 3: "Here's how NOT to do a remake"

NecrumOddBoy918d ago (Edited 918d ago )

I think RE3 was actually pretty good but just short and flawed a bit. If Capcom would’ve just put the RE3 campaign and it’s dodge mechanic into RE2 (maybe called it RE Raccoon City Chronicles) and placed the the game in a canonical order LEON A, CLAIRE B, JILL C; then dropped the multiplayer nonsense, it would have been the most perfect package. I enjoyed RE3’s ties in to 2 and they streamlined it well. It just was a flawed deliver.

-Foxtrot918d ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it was a good game but compared to RE2 it was a step back

It was lazier, felt rushed, shorter in comparison and totally the wrong way for Capcom themselves to do a remake

Luckily they got the memo because I'm sure I read RE4 was supposed to be done by the team that did RE3 before they rebooted development.

RE3 needs a directors cut, it needs to be longer, they need to include the choices, add the other locations in by expanding/reworking the current story and also rework how Nemesis works. I want to explore more the city, even if areas have nothing to do with the main objectives and only exist to explore for collectibles or to find new gear.

staticall918d ago

Punching huge bolders while being in a volcano sounds cool on paper, but looks very dumb.
More QTEs = worse experience (RE6 mostly)
Sometimes big doesn't mean "better" (RE6 bosses mostly)
Not every game's suppose to have a multiplayer component (RE3 remake, Umbrella Corps). But sometimes it just works (Outbreak)
Small stamina bar for melee attacks is dumb (RE6)
Locking better skills behind drip-fed skill point drops is awful (RE6)
Do not give your flagship IPs to outside studios. But if you did, heavily control the game quality and direction (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City)

FallenAngel1984917d ago

For me Resident Evil’s biggest impact on the gaming medium will always be that over the shoulder control scheme pioneered by RE4

Death in the Family: A Look Back at Resident Evil 7

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "With Resident Evil Village out imminently, it seems like an ideal time to revisit its immediate predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a game that steered the franchise back to its roots. After replaying the game this past week, I can say with confidence it remains one of my favorites in the long-running series, due to its scary and disturbing atmosphere, challenging boss battles, twisting narrative, breathless action, and old-school survival-horror gameplay. It's certainly not perfect — there isn't much enemy variety and the final boss is a letdown — but overall it's a great game worthy of the name Resident Evil."
