"VII"

Gotta admit..that got me. I thought the game name was "VII" in VR.
But as a wimp, I won't be playing any horror in VR. Nope !! no way uh uh.

naruga3287d ago (Edited 3287d ago )

not what i expected ..i wanted 3rd person RE ...not so pleased with what i saw

TXIDarkAvenger3287d ago

Got a bit of P.T vibes from that. I would never have guessed Resident Evil.

-Foxtrot3287d ago

That's not Resident Evil I'm sorry

RE is not first person

Only scary if you buy a £300 VR VR headset

Could this have not been a spin off or new game. I just want a classic RE game

DarkBlood3287d ago

sorry but in this case a premature judgement

-Foxtrot3287d ago (Edited 3287d ago )

It comes out in Jan, this seems like what it is.

RE first person. Chasing a new gimmick instead of giving fans what they want

I say gimmick as VR still hasn't been established

candystop3287d ago

VR isn't a gimmick! That was epic and first person makes perfect sense to put you in the universe.

-Foxtrot3287d ago

It's not a gimmick? How do you know?

It's a gimmick. It's not a gimmick

Both opinions are valid but I can't see it lasting long, we're still not there yet.

candystop3286d ago

Yes that could be said but I see it being around for a long long time, just my opinion.

Concertoine3287d ago

I get that perspective, but the tone is definitely in the right place. I just hope RE7 doesn't become a walking simulator let's play fodder or a run n' hide. It's a little too historical to go that route, imo.

-Foxtrot3287d ago (Edited 3287d ago )

The tone is kind of there but without anything else it's not RE

We finally get a good tone and they leave the rest behind

Chasing P.Ts hype

LIKE ALWAYS...a new IP using an old IPs name

GameBoyColor3287d ago

Did it not occur to you that maybe there is a third person camera toggle?

-Foxtrot3287d ago

Then show it off

If they don't then it doesn't exist

3287d ago
Tdmd3286d ago

Apparently, it does not. Here's the demo in the J-PSN: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Kakashi Hatake3287d ago

RE has been in need of reinventing for a while now. I welcome the change. Better than Resident Evil 5 and 6 already.

NatureOfLogic_3287d ago

I agree. After RE5 and RE6, I welcome any kind of major change to the series.

Tdmd3286d ago

It doesn't take much to be better than 5 and 6 to. That's not much of an accomplishment. First person killed it for me.

gantarat3287d ago (Edited 3287d ago )

i agree with you this look like another run and hide horror game that slap Resident Evil name.
(a least should do spin off not main game.)

Bnet3433287d ago

I also wanted a classic RE game :( I got really hyped. don't get me wrong VR is cool but damn lol

TXIDarkAvenger3287d ago

Demo is suppose to be up already. I wonder if there is a 3rd person option.

Hold_It3287d ago

Fans like myself who have been a fan of the series since day one, have wanted the series to return to horror. This game has done that. Please go cry somewhere else. All I see you do on any article is cry about how [insert game here] isn't to your liking. If you were a real Resident Evil fan you would be hype.

-Foxtrot3286d ago

Lol fan of a game which looks nothing like the game you are apparently a fan of

.....riiiiiight

A real RE fan would want a actual bloody RE game. Not a PT wannabe

CERN3287d ago (Edited 3287d ago )

The first person view is only for the vr, without the vr it will still probably be in third person. This isn't a vr only game, it will probably also come out on Xbox.

Tdmd3286d ago

The demo on PS Store is in first person too...: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Spurg3286d ago

100% agree....
I wanted re to got back to its roots but this is just a horror game in disguise. People are still in that hype mood...when things settle down, they will see everything thats wrong with this game.

Things that are wrong:
VR. Its a gimmick so far. Nothing to take seriously and considering the price point all games have had subpar graphics and gameplay.

Too much horror.
Re was more jump scare than mood horror. I ve got scare in an re game but instead certain encounter would make me scared due to the jump scare not a mood of the environment or music.

The name:
Resident evil 7??? Really, this game doesnt seem to have any association with the previous games and that put it in as the main game in the series. Capcom are out of touch.

jessionpc3286d ago

Like the ones with tank controls, horribly frustrating camera angles, and boring maze/run back simulator game play?

Nostalgia's a bitch man... It's time to move on to something better. RE has needed to let the past go for a long time. The push to COD in RE6 was a horrible mistake, but trying to, "Mass Effect 2", the series with 5 failed HARD just as well...

RE will either evolve or be forgotten. And it looks like they learned, and evolved. Can't wait to play the demo tonight.

EmperorDalek3286d ago

Don't compare RE5 to the absolute rubbish that is RE6. And Mass effect 2 was epic in its day.

Gatsu3286d ago (Edited 3286d ago )

After being a fan since 1997, I'm glad with the change and it looks a lot more promising than RE5 or 6. The series has gone downhill quite a lot. I've wanted RE you go back to horror and first person will most likely do that, maybe more than before. Games change. I like 3rd person more, but as long as its done well in a scary way, I dont mind this change at all.

Also.what do you mean only scary if you buy VR? Didnt you play PT at all? That is the scariest thing ever without VR, first person horror game don't need it to be scary. They promised to go back to survival horror so we should be happy, it's what fans want the most.

_-EDMIX-_3286d ago

Why do you jump to such extreme conclusions? For all you know that's merely a perspective you could take using VR, the games likely in third person or could even be feasible that it's both is Fallout and Elder Scrolls not both?

I think that is very logical that Capcom is making a survival based Resident Evil as a number title because they don't have the funds to make some Ultra huge budget Michael Bay call of duty-like Resident Evil did you forget that this company was willing to start selling some of its IPs not too long ago?

Did you forget that Microsoft is funding Dead Rising? Did you forget that Sony funded several of their titles? Did you forget that Nintendo is doing the same? This company is not in great financial standing and I believe it's likely we're only seeing this Resident Evil because they can't afford to make a blockbuster Resident Evil on multiple platforms.

TheDivine3286d ago

Personally it being 7 kills it. Otherwise I wouldn't mind them doing this. But it being the next mainline game means the classic 3rd person RE is dead. I don't want 1st person and hate pure horror games like outlast or pt. I love RE1-5 and Dead Space. Series is dead to me.

Had no idea this would be RE7. Looks awesome. Glad it isn't anything like RE5 or RE6.

Resident Evil Fans Discuss Whether They Prefer First Or Third Person

Players have long debated the merits of third-person as opposed to first-person perspective in games and the topic has recently resurfaced on Reddit, this time concerning the long running Resident Evil series. The discussion so far has generated somewhat heated opinions from users on both sides of the argument.

Resident Evil has a long history of using both perspectives, with some entries in the series like Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 offering players a third-person view, while others like Resident Evil 7 provided players with a first-person perspective. Some fans believe third-person allows for better visibility and control over the character, while others believe that first-person immerses you more deeply into the game's atmosphere.

Third always

It's what it's always been and how it's meant to be played whether it's fixed camera angles or over the shoulder.

Rockstar780d ago

There was a time when I would have agreed but if you've got a vr setup the 1st person RE's are on another level.

That being said, they can both exist because they're both fantastic.

Babadook7766d ago (Edited 766d ago )

Exactly. If there was no VR version available or possible I’d say 3rd person. But because of the extreme heightened immersion, VR trounces the flat screen version, so 1st person please.

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

They should have the option to have both going forward imo. But I do prefer third person view

Levii_92780d ago

I love both and the new mainline RE games should stay in first person for at lest one more game that’s why i hated that Capcom for some reason added third person in RE8 .. like why ? What was the point ? It just lost what made the new games unique and different. Re7 is a gem and already such a classic, it’s RE1 of this generation or well the prevous generation i guess i should say and RE8 is bonkers and so fun. Such great games.

Goozex780d ago

First person. It just ramps up the intensity for me

What horror franchises could learn from Resident Evil

Resident Evil has remained the most popular horror franchise in video games for a long time. These are the reasons why.

The remakes are good examples

Resident Evil 2: "Here's how you do a remake"

Resident Evil 3: "Here's how NOT to do a remake"

NecrumOddBoy918d ago (Edited 918d ago )

I think RE3 was actually pretty good but just short and flawed a bit. If Capcom would’ve just put the RE3 campaign and it’s dodge mechanic into RE2 (maybe called it RE Raccoon City Chronicles) and placed the the game in a canonical order LEON A, CLAIRE B, JILL C; then dropped the multiplayer nonsense, it would have been the most perfect package. I enjoyed RE3’s ties in to 2 and they streamlined it well. It just was a flawed deliver.

-Foxtrot918d ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it was a good game but compared to RE2 it was a step back

It was lazier, felt rushed, shorter in comparison and totally the wrong way for Capcom themselves to do a remake

Luckily they got the memo because I'm sure I read RE4 was supposed to be done by the team that did RE3 before they rebooted development.

RE3 needs a directors cut, it needs to be longer, they need to include the choices, add the other locations in by expanding/reworking the current story and also rework how Nemesis works. I want to explore more the city, even if areas have nothing to do with the main objectives and only exist to explore for collectibles or to find new gear.

staticall918d ago

Punching huge bolders while being in a volcano sounds cool on paper, but looks very dumb.
More QTEs = worse experience (RE6 mostly)
Sometimes big doesn't mean "better" (RE6 bosses mostly)
Not every game's suppose to have a multiplayer component (RE3 remake, Umbrella Corps). But sometimes it just works (Outbreak)
Small stamina bar for melee attacks is dumb (RE6)
Locking better skills behind drip-fed skill point drops is awful (RE6)
Do not give your flagship IPs to outside studios. But if you did, heavily control the game quality and direction (Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City)

FallenAngel1984917d ago

For me Resident Evil’s biggest impact on the gaming medium will always be that over the shoulder control scheme pioneered by RE4

Death in the Family: A Look Back at Resident Evil 7

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "With Resident Evil Village out imminently, it seems like an ideal time to revisit its immediate predecessor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a game that steered the franchise back to its roots. After replaying the game this past week, I can say with confidence it remains one of my favorites in the long-running series, due to its scary and disturbing atmosphere, challenging boss battles, twisting narrative, breathless action, and old-school survival-horror gameplay. It's certainly not perfect — there isn't much enemy variety and the final boss is a letdown — but overall it's a great game worthy of the name Resident Evil."
