Why No PS4 Neo At E3 Is A Good Thing

Today Sony confirmed Neo is real and that it won’t be shown off at E3. Here’s why this is probably a good thing for not only Sony but for gamers.

Yup, pretty much. As much as I would like them to introduce NEO, games should be the primary focus and then there's VR.

I agree with you in that it should be about the games. Everyone seems to be freaking out about the new system and thinking they are going to be alienated, even though sony already stated the earlier generations of ps4 will be able to play everything in this generation...

Gol3m3301d ago

Sony have said nothing of the sort. Rumours from poor journalists have said that. Sony haven't uttered a single word about an upgraded console

Fist4achin3301d ago (Edited 3301d ago )

@ Gol3m
President and global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House told the Financial Times that the “high-end PS4” will also be more expensive than the company’s current $350 offering. The PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013 at $400.

The revelation comes after months of rumors that Sony was working on a more powerful console, intended to offer better graphics as well as support for 4K televisions. In a rare, rumor-to-actuality convergence, House confirmed the console is indeed nicknamed “Neo.” He said it is aimed at enthusiast gamers or anyone looking to consume 4K content.

Both the current and new versions are intended to exist in tandem, said House, with the extra development expense for software developers being “small but manageable.” Both versions will support the forthcoming PlayStation VR headset, due this October. House said the company expects to sell both consoles “through the life cycle.”

It didn't just come from my keister...

I would prefer Neo details over VR any day.

"wouldn't be hype about PSVR if the demos performed poorly"

Are you kidding? The people who hype up video games hype up literally everything. Do you remember Haze? Do you remember how much that was hyped? Or how about Mighty No 9's recent hype? Oh, how about Evolve? Watch that video.

Now they can announce more exclusive games. I'm sure they'll talk about PSVR for about 15 minutes or less and then focus on games.

Summons753301d ago

15 minutes would be good. There really isn't much you can show on stage besides some guy looking like a fool trying to play frisbee. I'd say show a couple big games that aren't tech demos then do that tech demo slideshow and that's it.

At this point I'm sick of hearing about VR so the less the better.

LOL_WUT3301d ago

There's no urge for it the PS4 is still selling like hotcakes. I say let them take their time ;)

OC_MurphysLaw3301d ago

Disagree, I think this clears the deck for them to focus heavily on PSVR. I am thinking they are going to have a significant chunk of the conference devoted to PSVR and PSVR games. I would be shocked if 30+ min were not spent showcasing games that are either compatible or exclusive to PSVR.

pompombrum3301d ago

I don't mind that it's not there but at the very least I hope they address people's concerns with it.. while the rumours said they were making sure there wouldn't be Neo exclusive games, taking a few minutes of their conference wouldn't hurt to at least mention it and their goals. As seemingly unstoppable as Sony are, I don't think it's great for anyone to have a PS 4.5 looming over our heads with no facts or credible info.

I am tired of "No, XXX, is a good thing" articles. If only because they spawn as many "DOOMED! XXX is DOOOOOOMED" ones.

Now I - Gir - will sing the doom song for 10 hours:

SegaGamer3301d ago

I agree, it's so boring. As soon as any news breaks we get the same type of articles.

ShottyatLaw3301d ago

DOOOOOM!

I couldn't agree more. It's lazy and cheap. This article is practically a copy and paste of comments we've seen on other articles. It's three poorly edited paragraphs stating someone's random thoughts.

Obviously most of us know that this means Sony will spend less time on hardware talk and more time discussing games at E3. Thanks for making an "opinion piece" about it.

I'm just going to start my own Wordpress site devoted entirely to rebutting crap articles like this. Sorry, your "Dooomed!" idea is about to make me a few quick bucks...

Godmars2903301d ago

Hardware other than VR you mean, which gives only more reason not to talk about Neo and hurt sales of the current console.

And really, you're going to call a game blog "Dooomed!" and not expect traffic from Doom fans?

Actually, that might be even more of a plus...

ShottyatLaw3301d ago

Absolutely. They need to sell PSVR, stock PS4s, and games. That's plenty to discuss right there.

My DOOOMED! blog is going to have a full section devoted to game delays, too. I'm tired of the "Why XXX game delay is a good thing" articles. Not enough DOOOOM!

OC_MurphysLaw3301d ago

Not for me... all I know now is there is a better version of the PS4 coming and it will be more than $350. I had hoped to pick up a PS4 this year but until they tell me how much better it is and exactly how much it is...I won't buy either. I mean if its only $400 I might just go NEO but if its $450 or higher... then likely a PS4 will do.

preciousdeath3301d ago

There's almost always a better something coming. You might be waiting a while if they won't unveil it yet. And you'll miss out on some amazing games.

Eidolon3301d ago (Edited 3300d ago )

"There's almost always a better something coming."

Not with consoles, that's what us consoles gamers have come to trust.

I think a Spring 2017 release is probable.

OC_MurphysLaw3301d ago

My thinking is they may reveal more come Paris Game Show or PSX... Uncharted 4 really is the one game I do want to play. Uncharted was the reason I bought a PS3. I can wait it out a bit...if nothing else there should be a killer deal on a PS4 come holiday.

badz1493301d ago

@Dlacy13g

thank god you're not a PC gamer! there will always be a new and better GPU after a year. you'll be waiting for the best GPU for like forever before you're going to get 1 and don't feel threatened for the better one coming next!

psst...don't get the GTX1080 because it's nothing compared to the upcoming 1080Ti. and even then, the GTX1180 will be even better still. oohh...don't even get me start with GTX1180Ti! It's a BEAST! not compared to the GTX1280 though...

OC_MurphysLaw3301d ago

@badz149 Of course there is always something new and shinny. Doesn't mean I need to rush out and buy it now nor does it mean I will wait forever to buy it. I don't feel threatened by the next one for the record...I am just being a smart consumer. More people should practice that.
