Do We Really Need Skyrim And Dead Rising Remasters/Remakes?

Rich Drummodn of Gaming Tech United writes:

"Ever since the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 hit the market, remastered versions of games have been a part of their libraries. Some developers put a lot of heart and soul into these upgrades, while other games show the hand of publishers and higher-ups pushing forcing the developers to get a product to the market. According to leaks and rumors, two “remastered” games that we will be getting are new versions of Skyrim and the original Dead Rising. The question is will these games be the former or the later? Do we even need these remasters in the first place?"

I thought DR was going to be a remake/re-imagining? Or does it also come with a remastered version of DR1?

GamingTechUnited3255d ago

We dive into that in the article. Personally I use remaster to cover games of that nature as well. I don't really use "remaster" as a dirty word. I reference the Ratchet & Clank game as a remaster, but love completely love that game.

gangsta_red3255d ago

But a remaster would be something complete different right? From my understanding a remake would be a totally different game that uses the original source material. A remaster is taking the old game and just adding updated sprites and audio.

It's like the remastered version of Ghostbusters and the new remake. Same name, same premise, totally different story and plot.

I believe DR4 will be a completely new game that will do the same. Who knows, I guess we'll see at E3.

@red

Well, either way, we updated the headline to avoid confusion. :)

dcbronco3254d ago

Damn right we do. All these years of remasters and I finally get Skyrim and now some complain about remasters. Skyrim was one of the best selling games of all time, if any game deserves a remaster it does.

Lord_of_Cinder3254d ago

Ratchet & Clank is not a remaster game. Is a re imagined game. There is a difference that you don't seem to understand.

NapalmSanctuary3254d ago

Ratchet & Clank 2016 is a remake.

A remaster is when you take old code and assets and doll it up for modern consoles. A remake is when everything is built from the ground up. Resident Evil 2002 is a remake, while Resident Evil HD is a remaster.

basically no ..smthing they probably found out the hard way (add also the overrated lame Bioshock collection ..who the hell asked for these games..:/? )

Dead Rising isn't getting remastered

GamingTechUnited3255d ago

Dead Rising 4 is rumored to be a re-imagining/remake of the original. In the article we dive more into the situation to explain it to the reader.

KindaGrump3255d ago

Hmm. I think that the Dead Rising one could be intriguing. Like the article says, since it's a re-imagining, there should be a lot of hard work put into it, so it could be something special. As for the Skyrim remaster, it doesn't personally intrigue me. It's not going to offer anything I haven't gotten on my PC. Might be cool for console owners though?

NinjaRichParty3255d ago

I'm in the same boat, man. My PC version has a bunch of mods running on it and is already at the maximum graphical setting. This is cool for people who can't run the game on their PC, if mods really do come, but it's not for me.

-Foxtrot3255d ago

Dead Rising is a remake-retelling, like what Capcom did for Resident Evil

I'm fine with that, they take the past experience, remake and add onto it

As for Skyrim...well it does have mod support If they make sure the mod support is full of content at launch for both consoles then it won't be as bad.

Would be nice if they maybe add a small new expansion for it in the future, or maybe take a current mod one, add onto it and make it official.

GamingTechUnited3255d ago

I hope something special is added to the Skyrim version. I just don't know that mods and small graphical tweaks are enough to sell this game again. Maybe at a $30-$40 price tag?

_-EDMIX-_3254d ago

lol, I love how you think its being done just for you.

:"enough to sell this game again"

Many might be buying it for the first time bud, its not all about you.

Paytaa3255d ago

I'm kind of hoping that the rumor is half-true and we end up getting TES Anthology for consoles.

Fallout and Skyrim show us that talented developers make great games when you leave them alone

That judicious lack of oversight permeated everything in Bethesda's RPGs, in a positive fashion.

Christopher21d ago

I much prefer a left alone Obsidian and Larian Studios. Bethesda's formula has grown old for me.

anast19d ago

Larian hit another level with DOS:2 and then took it even further with BG3. They do high quality work.

Skyrim was a letdown compared to previous games and so was Fallout 4

Kosic19d ago

I agree, I found it an interesting game. But nowhere near worth the hype (unless you include mods)

dmonee20d ago

Skyrim blew my mind when it released. That game took me to the gaming, promisedland. Going back to it when it was updated for the PS5, it felt slightly rough around the edges, but great for its time

TheColbertinator19d ago

We should leave Obsidian alone. Bethesda on the other hand should be kept under constant psychiatric observation.

anast19d ago

Skyrim feels like the game was made in a hurry with a disorganized team.
