Why are they calling it Dreamcast 2, I remember it was just going to play DC games in HD, but emulated.

Don't click on the "Full Story" it is just a paragraph about a re tweet

I genuinely smile when I read that this project is still doing well, I have high hopes for it.
edit: looks like some major players in the group quit. Not sure what's going on but awaits video.

I wouldn't hold out for anything if I were you. It's unlikely hardware will ever be made especially considering the current console hardware situation of 2 of the major players doing only decent and the other struggling. Adding a 4th player means it or one of the others is going to flat out crumble and more than likely it'll be the DC2 since Nintendo has it's first party to carry it, Xbox has a strong NA fanbase, and PS is killing it right now.

Also this is supposed to be an emulator system for the Dreamcast and at most get 3rd party support of current-gen games. But the hardware choices were absolutely awful early on, but with Pascal and Polaris launching there's a good deal of power that can be had for the console, and with Maxwell soon to be dropping around 30% or more as they're phased out they can easily scoop up some old parts from the 750 ti and up, and build a solid console as well.

They should simply build a cheap $299 entry PC-console with a FX 6300 and a 750 ti (for TDP) or R7 260 (for performance), run a custom Android / Linux OS, so emulators can run on it, and it's still just powerful enough to run current 3rd party games on mid-settings with solid fps (pretty much parity to PS4).

It's either that or build a super cheap APU system for $199 which would work as well simply because of the entry price.

I still find it sad that the original Dreamcast failed. People just didn't give it a chance and it had a lot of good games on it. If only Sega didn't waste so much time and money on all the other failed projects, who knows how far the Dreamcast could have went.

Easily most underrated system ever. Way ahead of its time in every way. 3 words....phantasy star online (drops mic)

I miss the DC the one of the most fun consoles I ever had, I played PSO and Power stone to death, in fact I still play PSO BB on my laptop, I only found out that the game was still alive online, and it looks great for a 15yr old game, oh man CRAZY taxi, the clear some air, SONY KILLED the DREAMCAST with one lie, the PS2 is so powerful Saddam Hussain can launch weapon of mass destruction, that how powerful the emotion engine is, and all developer listen and ate SONY'S lies, as yet we have not seen this power of the PS2 ever, RIP DREAMCAST, SONY always lies, even now the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox 1, true, but not 50% more powerful or we would see it, more lies, I may get flamed for saying this but history is proof of my statement, developers are also to be blamed for not giving the console a chance, but then again SONY did pay those developers to have the software on there console first. I like how people forget history of what happened.

I wish I had never let the dream cast go... Wish I could still turn it on and play skies of Arcadia. Or powerstone

It hard to explain but Dreamcast is so magical. From the start up , to the sound of the disk being read, it's so nostalgic. It's all business but I just could never grasp Dreamcast being a failure. It had so much going for it but piracy played a huge part, yes I know sony had dvd but the games Dreamcast had were so unique. I'll say it over and over Nintendo and Sega made each other better, there were the pb&j . Now it's all bullcrap , 2 systems that literally have the same games but I won't go into that now

They retired Ken Kutaragi, moved away from overly expensive custom hardware, and went with more traditional hardware available to the market and listened to developer needs.

It's true but also PlayStation publicly came out and stated third party wasn't important to them.

ironic that what worked for them the previous generation caused them significant pain in the subsequent one.

The PS2 was actually a significant challenge to develop for far worse than the PS1 ever was but the competition at the time was struggling so much they couldn't make up the ground Dreamcast had a stigma of being a last gen console by the time the PS2 came around and looked inferior compared to games like grab Turismo 3, the GameCube and Xbox were still a ways away and PlayStation had the reputation as being the place to play it was a perfect storm for them and the GTA games not coming to Dreamcast and Sony's embrace really helped.

Third party basically drove PlayStation yi success over more capable consoles Xbox may have looked better at the time but it didn't have GTA 3, vc, Sa or the stories games the mainline entries didn't hit the Xbox until many years after being on PlayStation.

Then the PS3 with it's cell architecture ramped it up again and just hurt Devs they didn't focus on the GPU as much as they should have and they didn't realise their deals they made with IBM could have resulted in the cell architecture being shared with Microsoft which it was and it did help them develop the 360

But really the 90s and 2000s were a wild time for game consoles now it's a little boring it's all off the shelf components and everything is mostly the same

After losing so many 3rd party exclusives, they buckled down and concentrated on amazing first party games! God of war 3, Killzone 2, resistance, uncharted, the last of us, MgS4, little big planet, demon souls and so many more games!! They won the gamers back by playing smart! Even though the media and all big gaming websites from ign, gamespot, kotaku etc were all against it!! I had fun with ps2, but it's ps3 where I really grew up and had the time of my life.
