Uncharted 4 creators share advice for game developers who want to make blockbusters

Game development is an art. Some are good at it, but many developers struggle. Those who consistently produce great hits are a rarity in the industry, and Naughty Dog is among the rarest of all with successes like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2.7 million copies sold in its first week) and The Last of Us, my favorite game of all time and one of the biggest blockbusters on the PlayStation 3.

It was the game that make me feel warm inside. Making game never easy, but it was something that make us satisfied. It's final and they did a good job to send off this series. Here the thing, if ND killed Nathan Drake, that would be slap the fan to the face. And thank god, they didn't. For me, it's was well done ending. And sorry for the Spoiler. And please, disagree with my comment.

^^^^^Spoiler^^^^^^
But agreed....
I'll call EA and ubisoft, they need this advice more than anyone.

- 1st thing is for the industry to stop with the lame B-movie stories and cringe-inducing scripts

- integrate the story into the game design from the start and not just patch it in after the fact

- you still need good game design to go with the story (looking at you Order 1886)

- hire the right people for the job, not everyone is a Kojima/Levine who control all aspects of a game, look at Naughty Dog who have a team (Druckmann/Straley)

@TwoForce

"And sorry for the Spoiler."

Fucking idiot. I've only just started playing.

TomLovesXBOX3319d ago

Spoiler.
Yep the ending was great. I was so pleased with the epilogue when seeing he finally got the life he wanted and had a child. I almost let out a tear :'-)

Great. Nd are the best so if others want to be at their level, what better teachers than them.

My favorite developers

MasterCornholio3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

They do some really amazing things that no other developers are able to achieve. That's one of the main reasons why their games are trurly "critically acclaimed". Can't really disagree when the majority sees NaughtyDog in the same way.

They truly are one of the best developers in the industry. I still believe that CD Project Red and Rockstar are on the same level as them.

They are a great inspiration for inferior developers in this industry.

@Rookie

My bit follows you not me.

;)

Just joking.

No idea why your so paranoid. I like gaming in general which is why I read articles often on N4G. When someone says something that I agree with (or disagree with) I usually respond to them. I have every right to do this.

If you don't like this then you could just stop posting. I can't control the comments that you make so if you want people to stop replying to you just stop posting.

You have to be conscious that if you post something in N4G people can respond to you at any moment.

Anyways thanks for the comment.

:)

"My number one obsessive Rookie fan, indeed. ;) "

Well your my number one fan as well. I'm glad you take the time to respond to many of my comments. Like what you did in that Xbox article.

Lol

Rookie_Monster3319d ago

ROTFL, why you are following me like Cotsworth from FO4? Scary as heck as it is borderline stalking. My number one obsessive Rookie fan, indeed. ;)

But glad you feel the same about ND as I do. They are great.

Love Naughty Dog and Uncharted 4 but the TLOU set the bar so high that no game has come close to that master piece.

Hopefully with Uncharted done now ND can create another work of art like TLOU.

MasterCornholio3319d ago

I'm sure they will Fin. Within 3 years we will see them announce another NaughtyDog masterpiece.

I'm really hoping for a new IP though. I love new experiences.

Amazing studio, after playing The Last of Us and the Uncharted series, can't wait to play whatever they will create next.

I might get one in a couple years but I’m in no hurry. Nothing at launch I want to play.

PRIMORDUS23m ago

If there are no shortages then why can't we just easily order a Switch 2 online, from Best Buy, Target, Newegg, Amazon etc. No shortages means we can get it by any means, online or in store.

shinXseijuro2h ago

Maybe there’s shortages in Japan ? But they’re pretty much available lol

shinXseijuro2h ago

But hey saying that creates more hype right !

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.
