Re-examining ‘Silent Hill 3’, Gaming’s Most Unfairly Overlooked Sequel

It might be 13 years old this month, having come out on May the 23rd 2003, but Silent Hill 3's thematically rich narrative and characters remain leagues ahead of most games.

I agree, I played Silent Hill 3 and I thought it was excellent. It was a direct sequel to part one and seeing the fate of Harry was kind of sad considering what he went through in part one.

It was a great game but unfortunately how in the world can you follow up the masterpiece that was Silent Hill 2...you can't. But this game did a great job just being a worthy title in the trilogy.

This was a better game to me as it followed the continuity from the first game and pushed more on a technical level, even if some of the bonuses rose my eyebrow a bit...

the most unfairly overlooked Silent hill was 4 by far ...the game was PT before PT and obviously Kojima used it as an inspiration

I wish the original team would get together to make another Silent Hill. Aside from Kojima, only crappy devs have been being thrown at the series, so we really haven't had a true Silent Hill game since the third. The Room was creepy, but it doesn't fit into the series, seeing as it was a different game and then they just tacked on the name "silent hill" towards the end of development.

Damn, we agree on something. I gotta go make sure hell didn't freeze over.

Those character models are amazing for PS2...

Pozzle3288d ago (Edited 3288d ago )

Yeah, the detail in the character models were amazing. Especially the lighting and textures.

It still looks really impressive even to this day, imo...

The graphics overall was quite amazing for it's time and not much talked about, the atmosphere was pretty creepy also.

I still remember the bit where they were in the car and it was raining the droplets were moving across the windscreen, and thinking how can this run on ps2

Definitely agree, the visuals in later games on the PS2 were superb.

id throw haunting ground into the mix. it still looks fantastic.

but i still dont quite understand why we never got a dragon quest 8 remaster for ps4. even the damn 3ds got one.

OtterX292d ago

I'd add Rogue Galaxy, Shadow of the Colossus.

Scissorman292d ago

Silent Hill 3 was straight up sorcery. It has better hair animation than most modern games, which is wild to me.

I would throw in MGS3 as well
