Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End E3 2015 vs. Final Build Graphics And Character Model Comparison

If you were wondering how Uncharted 4 holds up to E3 2015, it looks like the final game got slightly upgraded instead of the usual treatment.

Spyroo3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

Yeah better improved model compared to E3 2014

Also while it is the same character model in gameplay and in-game cut scenes, I think ND's engine allows to allocate some resources at certain segments like in a cutscene moment adding slightly more detail etc in cutscenes in realtime also the lighting can be focused and makes a huge difference.

Also many sceneries has been re-done, better shaders and colour grading and improved motion blur

Genuine-User3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

And to think that some people thought neither demos (PSX 2014 and E3 2015) were running on a PS4,

Aloy-Boyfriend3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

About time they start to eat their words

I said it many times... The first trailer was Naughty Doge's target of how the game will look. That is why they say it was in game.

Then the PSX footage wasn't touched up as much in order to have the demo ready for the event to showcase the gameplay.

I said they were gonna make look even better than it looked but nooo...Go called all the kinds of names for it

And look now. I was right!!

glassgannon9093325d ago

its really funny, every time sony reveals a first party exclusive people say the same thing and 9/10 the games end up better looking than early promos, they said that for infamous, for driveclub , for bloodborne, the order 1886, for ratchet and clank and obviously for uc4 as well.
and i hear the same murmuring regarding horizon zero dawn.

3325d ago
Gazondaily3325d ago

People thought that?? I don't remember anyone claiming it didn't run on Playstation.

The main thing is, it is no where near as good as the E3 2014 teaser which people started proclaiming was in game because of in engine assets .

Still looks great mind you

Kingthrash3603325d ago

Just want to say this for ND, because ND are too classy to say it themselves....
This is how you do it ubisoft and EA.
No doctored demos or trailers....make you game look unbelievable in demo...and somehow even better when it goes gold.
Not the other way around.

TheCommentator3325d ago

So showing just the character from the 2014 reveal means that Uncharted 4 looks just like the trailer? What about showing how the environment compares? I'll admit that the final game looks very close to the target render shown in 2014, but the environment doesn't look as good overrall as the 2014 reveal. Maybe it's because the retail release has much larger areas to render? I don't know, but I can say that Naughty Dog did a fantastic job improving the quality of the graphics as development progressed, and deserves credit for making one of the best looking games seen on a console.

"The main thing is, it is no where near as good as the E3 2014 teaser which people started proclaiming was in game because of in engine assets ."

"Nowhere near as good" is extreme hyperbole. All cutscenes are real time & there will be no black screen, so there will not be some vast leap in cut scenes like you are insinuating because it would create glaringly noticeable jarring jump, which ND never do. Maybe we should wait and see what that section of the game looks like since we haven't seen any night time footage at all yet. I'm pretty sure the level of quality you see in the E3 2014 demo is going to be down to those lighting situations, and the gameplay during those sections will be nearly indistinguishable from that E3 2014 trailer. Slightly better most likely during cutscenes, but "not nearly as good", no chance.

Vegamyster3325d ago

@Septic

It was a mixed bag, you had people who thought it was CGI and other that thought it was gameplay (mind you the first trailer was 60 fps as well), going through the old article most people assumed it was gameplay: http://n4g.com/news/1526720...

starchild3324d ago

I still haven't seen anything from the game that looks as good as that jungle scene in the first trailer. This one: http://static2.gamespot.com...
I'm hoping it's still in the game and looks just as awesome.

TheCommentator3324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

Thank you Starchild, that's my point exactly. Drake looks very close to the way that trailer portrays him, of that there's no doubt, but nothing else I've seen in the retail release looks like that environment does. As I said, Naughty Dog did amazing work, but showing that 2014 video running at 60fps clearly overstepped the capability of the system, so they chose to make just the characters look close. Magic is all about misdirection, and for those who think the reveal trailer was rendered with the PS4, remember that even with 2 years and a 7th core, Naughty Dog only managed 30fps for the retail release.

Krakin13325d ago

It's the exact same model but some cut scenes use different lighting

N4G000013324d ago

Realistic water reflections are still expensive. I hope they bring it back for the next playstation.

Letthewookiewin3325d ago

And to think, all this in 1080 and not some blurry super duper 720p X4 "but it almost makes it 1080 or something" nonsense.

TheCommentator3325d ago

And to think, this thread almost got away with having civilized posting which commented on the topic instead of being infected with childish "my console is better than your console BS". That's not even mentioning any of the people who think that what you said was a good thing...

You and DoXze need to grow up. Seriously.

Kribwalker3325d ago

I'm sorry but the character model is not a better improved character model. The model from e3 2014 has way more detail in his face. The driving scene is improved yes, but the character model is not.

Imalwaysright3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

Agreed. I put both pictures side by side and aside from the hair, the character model from the reveal is more detailed. The biggest downgrade from the reveal is the framerate being cut in half in the singleplayer campaign.

Sparta073325d ago

Guess you always going to try to downplay anything Sony. This has improved period!! No game out there looks anywhere as good as uncharted. Can't wait to get my hands on this game.

jb2273325d ago

That discrepancy is down to the poor comparison. You can't compare a shot when they are taken from completely different areas at wildly different times of day. Wait until you see an actual comparison of the same shot from the same portion of the game. If you admit that the driving scene was improved it stands to reason that other things could be improved or at least hit their initial target.

Either way the game is gorgeous, and even if the models from the in engine gameplay are slightly upgraded during the cutscenes, it won't be a huge leap. I've seen plenty of people bragging about pictures of QB's character models when they are absolutely taken from cut scenes.

Kribwalker3324d ago

@sparta07

I have not need to downplay anything. I can enjoy all games. But the pictures in the article is better e3 vs now of the facial detail

AndrewLB3325d ago

Perhaps you missed where he said they were taken in "photo mode". "Photo mode" aka "bullshots". How bout a screenshot of what players actually see while the game is running?

MasterCornholio3325d ago (Edited 3325d ago )

Step 1: Download one of the trailers with gameplay.
Step 2: Play the video.
Step 3: Pause the video at any part during gameplay and take a screen shot.
Step 4: Admire your screenshot taken during gameplay

Also once people start to upload the game via their capture devices you can do the same.

That's better then the ingame shot of the character in the article

The ability to play this game in its entirety while cel shaded deserves an extra point

Wallstreet373325d ago

Naughty Dog is even different in this !! Instead of downgrade like mostly happens, they do an upgrade xD Can't wait for my copy and finish Drake's Story

cobalt3325d ago

killzone 2 e3 2005 is still better than ps4 best looking game

starchild3324d ago

That's actually true, but that's because it was pre-rendered CGI.

badz1493324d ago

@starchild

No it's not! CGI or not, it's still 2005 tech at best.

KyRo3324d ago

Troll! That being said it baffles me how KZ: Shadow Fall, a launch PS4 title still looks a lot better than most games even now. It seems to be only Sony pushing the bar.

jimi363324d ago (Edited 3324d ago )

lol i remember that days . some ps fans told me that is just 40% of ps3 power and final game is much better and i bought my ps3 because over hyped by that demo
