Dark Souls has always been a difficult game series, but would it be better with an 'Easy Mode'? Dom talks about his opinions on this topic with this edition of VGU Talks.
What's the point in still debating this? The game is out , it's not getting an easy mode. It's the last of the series.
It's already on easy mode in a way. This game doesn't force you to do anything to progress. You don't have to kill every enemy of a section. You don't have to kill every boss. You don't have to do it alone. You can get summoned and see what you have to do beforehand. You have the ability to run or roll away from everything to revisit an area, and MOST enemies will not pursue you. I am not at all a pro at this game or the series but taking your time and realizing these few points makes the game fairly easier than what most believe it to be.
No and it never will have one. Games should be what they were meant to be, not every game needs to appease every person. Games that try to do that end up being mediocre at best.
How about not buying it if you suck at videogames? Just don't buy it. Simple.
If you want an easy mode.......I'd just go buy The Witcher 3 or something. Even on Deathmarch, its still twice as easy as Souls. You still get a map, an objective list, GPS, the most forgiving save system I've ever seen. You can literally manually save your game as your looking at a boss. The settings fit the game though. Those kind of settings just wouldn't feel right in Souls. The Witcher 3 is a great game though. I'm probably half way through it. I will finish it someday. But for now, I'm playing Dark Souls, Dark Souls II: Scholar of The First Sin, Dark Souls III, back to back to back. I'm 60 hours into Dark Souls, so I'm only getting started. First playthrough for all. Bloodborne was awesome last year.
This was the easiest one yet...
The thing is, it really wouldn't be all that simple to just make an easy mode. There are many, many different aspects to the gameplay affect the challenge, not just 'enemy damage' or 'boss health.' You have traps, the risk of rolling off a cliff, losing souls after death, no map, no objective menu, no flashing arrows for shortcuts, the need for various items, no pause button, the need to prepare for different areas, status effects, hidden areas, limited checkpoints, limited visibility in some areas etc... Different people find different aspects difficult and there really is no blanket method of just making it easier but keeping the experience the same.
There will never be an easy mode for Dark Souls 3 or it's spiritual successors. If there ever is, then people will think that the formula that makes it stand out has been changed drastically which will result in people not bothering with it. The fun in it is that you challenge yourself to overcome realistic odds or obstacles and seeing other people do the same thing with their own form. It's kinda like a puzzle. The reason the Rubix Cube became so popular, why chess is, too. It's difficult, but filled with enjoyment when you figure strategies.
