Current Ratchet & Clank Reviews are Possibly Fake

If the reviews are coming out ahead of embargo that doesn't make them illegitimate, it just means they published earlier than they should.

There are early copies out there (in India, it's even downloadable, I hear) and if people have played it and reviewed it, it's a legitimate review regardless of the outlet; after all, a review is just a person's opinion.

You live under a rock? reviews that drop before embargoes are usually copies that were bought (Sometimes published too early) early from retailers or mom/pop shops that broke release date. They are not obligated to follow the embargo date because they didn't review a copy that was sent by the publisher, so they are not in agreement to do so.

Does it make it right, not really but the reviews are not fake. That being said if they got early some other way they should state in their review.

I just saw people that actually completed the game on Neogaf...and they said it is a 5-6 hours game and alot of things and contents were cut from the original game. Man, don't know how I am feeling about hearing that. Those 2 early reviews never mentioned that.

If you think the $40 price point is an indication of length, you have no idea. Puppeteer, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Tearaway Unfolded all were priced at $40 over the past few years and were standard-fare in terms of length. But what do they have in common? They're all colourful platforming games on PlayStation consoles. Not difficult to see how Ratchet & Clank fits into that model.

Take the concern trolling elsewhere, Ratchet & Clank is a $40 AAA title that looks beautiful & will surely play just as well. There are side quests, collectibles & upgrades that will all amount to a much more substantial playthrough than a 5 hour speed run.

I could speed run most R&C game in 5-6 hours. But there's a lot to do in the games besides push your way through them fast as you can...unless they changed up the formula so much that there is nothing to do but play the linear path. Usually my first play through on these games is around 10-12 hours depending on how much of the extra stuff I try to do.

Apparently a couple planets were cut, and a few more were added. Didn't go into the whole thread but seems there are 14 worlds. That would mean each world would take about 20-25 minutes for a 5-6 hour game. I don't know anyone who would get through the levels that fast in a R&C game their first time unless they really dumbed down the mechanics and difficulty.

That being said, outside of some of the content which was "removed"(as this game didn't have to follow the original to a tee, it seems that it has about as much content as most of the other games.

Thanks for the heads up though. Really appreciate you looking out for us R&C fans.

Lol, you guys are something else. I had played The Original Ratchet and it took me around 12 hours to beat and this is supposed to be a Remake/remaster. My expectation going in is at least the length of gameplay to be around the same as the original game like almost every Remasters / remakes are these days. The fact that it is known that they took out things to shortened what was in the original is really disappointing to me. You can't compare to new games as those never have an original game they were based off of to compare with.

You guys are defending this and use another game that is not even related to what is happening is really just trying to detract from what is really happening. You guys should compare this to something like Gears of War Ultimate since that game is also a remake/remaster...but that game added 5 extra levels that were not in the original X360 game.

My first play throughs of most R&C games is around 10-15 hours depending on if I try the extra stuff from the start or not. My subsequent play throughs are usually shorter, and with a couple of them I could probably easily complete them in 5-6 hours...if not less.

You are trying to make this out as definitely being a 5-6 hour game, but there is nothing but a post on neogaf to support that, and no one else has said anything about it, despite there being people who are playing it.

Yes, they took some stuff out. They also added some things. It's a remake, not a remaster, so if you expected the full original game then you set yourself up for disappointment. I also don't think they would have taken things out to shorten it, they likely took them out because they felt they wanted something else there...or maybe they just had to get it out in time for the movie...who knows? I know you don't know though.

You're jumping on a single comment in a neogaf thread to make your final decision on the game. It's no different than what happened with The Order, where one Let's play made everyone think it was a game you could easily complete in 5 hours on your first play through.

As of right now, people are defending against unfair judgement. Come Tuesday, people will know more, and likely if it's a 5-6 hour game, plenty of reviews will mention it...or maybe they won't since they didn't do much of that for QB, which I completed in 9 hours with the TV episodes while playing at a moderate pace trying to get collectibles.

Gears of War Ultimate is a remaster, not a remake. It was remade, but was remade scene for scene, and I can say that the entire game was not made from scratch, that was only the visuals, which likely just used the higher res versions that were originally created. R&C was built entirely from the ground up, and was meant to be a reboot/reimaging, not a remaster.

So, how about doing us all a favor. Instead of trying to troll with this concern, while trying to appear impartial, you simply wait for it to release and play it before passing judgement.

We have more than enough reactionary crap being said with actual things known beyond doubt, without having to bring in the unknown into the equation.

As it is, your concern isn't going to achieve anything right now, because no one takes you seriously enough when it comes to PS4 related stuff, and this only helps reinforce the feelings people have about your comments, because it's neither productive, positive, or borne from personal experience.

There was only one person on that NeoGaf thread who said they beat it in 5 hours and that was not an average playthrough. You didn't bother reading the rest of the thread, but you preferred to spread that FUD and that concern. And now I'm sat here looking at IGN's 15-hour playthrough, and laughing. You didn't even bother to research about what they put into the game, instead you focused on what they took out. None of it was fact, but you actually said in your response that it WAS fact that things were removed and it was ultimately shorter. Without proof, based on one misunderstood source. As far as the 5 hours garbage, you can speed through nearly any game from this gen in that amount of time, it's about the experience and amount of extra content available for those who want it.

When I get my copy on Tuesday I'll be sure to set a stop watch to keep track of how long it takes me to finish. I'll even do you a solid and save the extra stuff for my second play through.

So I read the rest of the posts after the one guys post, and it seems he did rush through it, admitted to not trying to do anything extra, and even admitted that it was a blast to play, and the short time shouldn't discourage anyone from playing it.

Even a guy from Insomniac stated that that would be an extreme time(on the low end) to try and complete the game, and said there would be no way to complete it that fast if one cared to do anything like actually have fun with it[paraphrased]

But I guess you and Rookie just rush through games to get to the next one right? never do anything extra in games, in which case, you would have been able to complete every R&C game in about 6 hours or so.

What the hell is a "fake review"??? Are Insomniac claiming that the sites that have put out reviews so far have not actually played the game? The most logical explanation is that the reviewers somehow got an early retail copy and decided to put up a review. That in no way means they are "fake".

I would argue that review embargoes are 95% pro-consumer AND pro-developer/publisher.

Without an embargo, there's a race to publish the first review. That first review is worth disproportionately more due to the increased visibility it will get. It'll get vastly more clicks, discussion, and notoriety. But that race is in no one's best interest, because it means critics and editors cut corners to publish their review first. The writing would be rushed and lower quality. There would be less time for reflection. They probably wouldn't even finish the game.

The embargo forces critics to take their time with a product and have time to write a high-quality review.

Embargos can be abused, especially if they are post-release, but this is exceptionally rare.

Ratchet & Clark's embargo isn't one of those cases, however. Few preorders benefits, embargo lifting the day before, etc.

The race to the first review still occurs, the rushed playthrough has always happened and always will.

I have heard this discussed many times in games podcasts and videos. The reviewer cramming the playthrough in to as short a period as possible has always happened and still does even now where embargoes are the norm.

Embargos are simply a tool used by PR to control what message gets out to the consumer.

That's a great point. The only caveat would be the amount of time that passes from the reviewer receiving the game & the embargo being lifted. The only way that still results in a rushed playthrough like LoveSpuds suggested is either the reviewers got a late copy for a late embargo, or if the reviewers themselves were lazy, and no amount of embargo will change that.

I think like R&C looks like great fun, and it's a type of game that has gone very underrepresented this gen, so I think that'll work in its favor. The $40 budget price surely won't hurt matters either...this will definitely be a day one for me, hopefully Insomniac gets a great reception out of it.

Embargos can give those that get review copies time to play the game properly, instead of just trying to be first to press, or putting out first impression type reviews that they write after playing for 10 minutes.

Judging by the state of reviews these days I can't say I'm shocked. Does seem like there is a lot of review "persuading" lately. This gen, very rarely has a metacritic score for an exclusive lined up with my actual enjoyment of a game.

Some are saying only a 5 or 6 hour game? Well, could be, as Nexus was similarly priced with about that same single-playthrough time. Quest for Booty was similar too.

However, at least for me, whatever the single playthrough time is, that gets multiplied by at least 3-4 times since these games have excellent reply value, even right after you finish it. I think I replayed Nexus 4 times.

The trophies are usually pretty obtainable, so after my kickback first playthrough, I'll put much more emphasis on getting trophies in the subsequent playthroughs (I don't even bother checking out the available trophies for my first time, I just get whatever ones I would naturally get). Second time would focus on getting more trophies, third time would be the hard playthrough, and the 4th would be for getting any trophies I might have missed.

So 5-6 hour game? I think not, actually more like 18-24 hours for me. Should be perfect, as I can burn through the rest of April playing this game (as well as still working on Fallout 4), then come May when Uncharted 4 releases, then I can devote all my time to that.

So the game leaked and some jumped on to get early reviews out. Because they are not well know media outlets or reviewers, breaking the embargo date will have no repercussions as they could care less about being blacklisted.

I manage to get an early copy last might, never played a ratchet and clank game before, more of a Jak and Daxter person :). But god Daaaammmmmmnnn this game is so fun. reviews should be in the high 8s and 9s. :)))))))))
Ps. 4 hours in and i give it a 9.

The game has a metacritic of 86 at the posting of this comment. So it really is the good and those reviews are quite legit.
