Current Ratchet & Clank Reviews are Possibly Fake

Sirus Gaming: According to Insomniac’s PR in response to our follow up email, any reviews published currently are either fake or coming from non-publisher/developer code sources as their embargo has not yet been lifted.

Even if the current reviews are fake, I'm certain the final product would still be a great title. Ratchet & Clank is among my favorite platformer series

Sirus_Gaming2931d ago

Ratchet & Clank is certainly going to be great. But come to think of it, they might have not tackled everything about the game. We just want to point out legitimacy of the reviews since we all don't want false expectations, right?

G20WLY2931d ago

If the reviews are coming out ahead of embargo that doesn't make them illegitimate, it just means they published earlier than they should.

There are early copies out there (in India, it's even downloadable, I hear) and if people have played it and reviewed it, it's a legitimate review regardless of the outlet; after all, a review is just a person's opinion.

You got some clicks though, amirite? ;^)

dafegamer2931d ago

reviews dropping earlier =/= illegitimate

by that logic the first halo 5 review, resident evil 6 review and bunch of other first reviews were illegitimate

AnubisG2931d ago

R&C was already available for purchase 3 days ago in some mom&pop stores in Manhattan. One of my friends already have it. So if he posts a review it's fake just because it's before the release date? GTFO!

TheJacksonRGN2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

You live under a rock? reviews that drop before embargoes are usually copies that were bought (Sometimes published too early) early from retailers or mom/pop shops that broke release date. They are not obligated to follow the embargo date because they didn't review a copy that was sent by the publisher, so they are not in agreement to do so.

Does it make it right, not really but the reviews are not fake. That being said if they got early some other way they should state in their review.

Eonjay2931d ago

"have not tackled everything about the game"

And you know this because you have a copy?

or

how can they tackle everything about the game without literally posting a comprehensive walk-through.

There are definitely copies out there. I'm discussing the game with someone who has it right now. He's played it for 10 hours and hasn't finished yet. He also recommends playing it on hard.

MasterCornholio2931d ago

Yeah I'm pretty sure some people got their copies early.

Genuine-User2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Yep. Their story has been updated:

"I have discovered that the game was released early in India as the game is already available for download."

The first review is from an indian news source; NDTV.

jznrpg2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Almost every game should be played on Hard. Normal is usually easy mode and easy is for 5 year olds. Not always but most of the time.

How does this comment get a single dislike? This game will be great. I don't even think this is an opinion.

Ilovetheps52931d ago

You need to go back to school then. The quality of a product is always an opinion regardless of whether or not you agree with it.

Majister-Ludi2931d ago

Lol like it would be impossible for this game not to be great. Put your bias shit away.

Rookie_Monster2931d ago

I just saw people that actually completed the game on Neogaf...and they said it is a 5-6 hours game and alot of things and contents were cut from the original game. Man, don't know how I am feeling about hearing that. Those 2 early reviews never mentioned that.

magiciandude2931d ago

Rookie, I saw it too. Here's the link

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

It has been making me wonder why this game is only 40 dollars just like Into The Nexus, another very short game. There's my answer.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2931d ago

So 5 hours isn't worth $40?

--_--

DigitalRaptor2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Goddamn, the concern trolling is back on board, and effortlessly fast.

How about that one dude who legitimately completed Quantum Break in 4 hours? Or others that did in 6 hours or so? Just so we can all be clear about your implications here, are you saying that 8 hours is worth $60, but 5-6 hours is NOT worth $40? Just so I'm sure, is that what you're implying?

Or... you could be reading the rest of the thread that brings into account that the game was also completed by several others in 10 hours, and other reviewers are still in the process of playing and on 8 hours already. If you actually cared, you would have found that out. I think you prefer the concern. ;)

If you think the $40 price point is an indication of length, you have no idea. Puppeteer, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and Tearaway Unfolded all were priced at $40 over the past few years and were standard-fare in terms of length. But what do they have in common? They're all colourful platforming games on PlayStation consoles. Not difficult to see how Ratchet & Clank fits into that model.

Realms2931d ago

So the quality of games is somehow tied to the longevity of the game? QB is 8hrs. long 10hrs. with the cut scenes are you going to say QB is a let down because it is a relatively short game as well. Rookie this why nobody believes your BS when you talk about anything specially when you talk about Sony and playstation.

jb2272931d ago

Weird, I saw early reports on Gaf saying that Quantum Break was a 4 hour game sans live action...how did that pan out?

Take the concern trolling elsewhere, Ratchet & Clank is a $40 AAA title that looks beautiful & will surely play just as well. There are side quests, collectibles & upgrades that will all amount to a much more substantial playthrough than a 5 hour speed run.

MasterCornholio2931d ago

Plenty of gaffers are saying around 10 hours. I guess we'll find out in a few hours how long it really is.

rainslacker2931d ago

I could speed run most R&C game in 5-6 hours. But there's a lot to do in the games besides push your way through them fast as you can...unless they changed up the formula so much that there is nothing to do but play the linear path. Usually my first play through on these games is around 10-12 hours depending on how much of the extra stuff I try to do.

Apparently a couple planets were cut, and a few more were added. Didn't go into the whole thread but seems there are 14 worlds. That would mean each world would take about 20-25 minutes for a 5-6 hour game. I don't know anyone who would get through the levels that fast in a R&C game their first time unless they really dumbed down the mechanics and difficulty.

That being said, outside of some of the content which was "removed"(as this game didn't have to follow the original to a tee, it seems that it has about as much content as most of the other games.

Thanks for the heads up though. Really appreciate you looking out for us R&C fans.

Germany72931d ago

You are the same guy that was defending Quantum Break, another short game, and now you are concerned about a Sony exclusive.
That's why nobody takes you serious.

Rookie_Monster2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Lol, you guys are something else. I had played The Original Ratchet and it took me around 12 hours to beat and this is supposed to be a Remake/remaster. My expectation going in is at least the length of gameplay to be around the same as the original game like almost every Remasters / remakes are these days. The fact that it is known that they took out things to shortened what was in the original is really disappointing to me. You can't compare to new games as those never have an original game they were based off of to compare with.

You guys are defending this and use another game that is not even related to what is happening is really just trying to detract from what is really happening. You guys should compare this to something like Gears of War Ultimate since that game is also a remake/remaster...but that game added 5 extra levels that were not in the original X360 game.

rainslacker2931d ago

@Rookie

How are we something else? One person saying it's 5-6 hours doesn't make it fact. My first play throughs of most R&C games is around 10-15 hours depending on if I try the extra stuff from the start or not. My subsequent play throughs are usually shorter, and with a couple of them I could probably easily complete them in 5-6 hours...if not less.

You are trying to make this out as definitely being a 5-6 hour game, but there is nothing but a post on neogaf to support that, and no one else has said anything about it, despite there being people who are playing it.

Yes, they took some stuff out. They also added some things. It's a remake, not a remaster, so if you expected the full original game then you set yourself up for disappointment. I also don't think they would have taken things out to shorten it, they likely took them out because they felt they wanted something else there...or maybe they just had to get it out in time for the movie...who knows? I know you don't know though.

You're jumping on a single comment in a neogaf thread to make your final decision on the game. It's no different than what happened with The Order, where one Let's play made everyone think it was a game you could easily complete in 5 hours on your first play through.

As of right now, people are defending against unfair judgement. Come Tuesday, people will know more, and likely if it's a 5-6 hour game, plenty of reviews will mention it...or maybe they won't since they didn't do much of that for QB, which I completed in 9 hours with the TV episodes while playing at a moderate pace trying to get collectibles.

Gears of War Ultimate is a remaster, not a remake. It was remade, but was remade scene for scene, and I can say that the entire game was not made from scratch, that was only the visuals, which likely just used the higher res versions that were originally created. R&C was built entirely from the ground up, and was meant to be a reboot/reimaging, not a remaster.

So, how about doing us all a favor. Instead of trying to troll with this concern, while trying to appear impartial, you simply wait for it to release and play it before passing judgement.

We have more than enough reactionary crap being said with actual things known beyond doubt, without having to bring in the unknown into the equation.

As it is, your concern isn't going to achieve anything right now, because no one takes you seriously enough when it comes to PS4 related stuff, and this only helps reinforce the feelings people have about your comments, because it's neither productive, positive, or borne from personal experience.

Germany72931d ago

You don't even know that this game is actually a reboot, not a remaster.

Just GTFO, go troll elsewhere.

DigitalRaptor2930d ago (Edited 2930d ago )

Surprise, surprise. You are completely absent from all the Ratchet & Clank Redux review articles on N4G, in wake of a Metascore of 86 and an OpenCritic score of 87. Crow fed.

You haven't responded to Rainslacker, because you can't. Another instance of an ultimate smackdown where you realise just how wrong you are and are try to squirm your way out by turning it around on others.

There was only one person on that NeoGaf thread who said they beat it in 5 hours and that was not an average playthrough. You didn't bother reading the rest of the thread, but you preferred to spread that FUD and that concern. And now I'm sat here looking at IGN's 15-hour playthrough, and laughing. You didn't even bother to research about what they put into the game, instead you focused on what they took out. None of it was fact, but you actually said in your response that it WAS fact that things were removed and it was ultimately shorter. Without proof, based on one misunderstood source. None of us are trying to detract from what is "happening", cause none of it has happened. You have been left with egg on your chin.

You know exactly what you were doing here. Trying to spread FUD in wake of that other game - the one that has been brought up to prove that those double standards of yours leave no room for doubt. You have lied, and concern trolled on PS4 articles in the past, undeniably, and all you can do is feign balance, pretend to be impartial, and turn it around on those calling you out when you feel you might be able to.

The transparency on display needs no emergency obfuscation. The amount of times you've been caught opportunistically trolling and lying about PS4 related topics removes any and all doubt. So please stop trying to make it seem otherwise.

I think if you enjoy these type of games you'll for sure love it but i'm skeptical about the 9's and 10's i'm seeing.

GribbleGrunger2931d ago

This site thrives on negativity. Two reviews release hours and hours before this article but which article hits number one in the Hot Spot? You guessed it.

magiciandude2931d ago

Not great, just good. 14 plants in 5 hours isn't great IMO. I think these reviews are fake.

MasterCornholio2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Do you believe they are fake or do you want them to be fake?

That is the question.

We will see what's true in a few hours.

jb2272931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

9 & 8.7 is "just good" now? Could've sworn just last week that 8 was an "amazing" score....lot of weird logic you've got at play there.

As far as the 5 hours garbage, you can speed through nearly any game from this gen in that amount of time, it's about the experience and amount of extra content available for those who want it.

Also, how is a review "fake" when the game is in the hands of multiple people & the game itself is specifically outlined in the review themselves? By your very own logic, how could anyone have legitimately claimed a 5 hour run time if the game isn't in the wild?

Which is it? Either these reviews are "fake" and no one has the game to base a 5 hour playthrough estimate or the reviews are real and your 5 hour rumors could hold water....do you not see the complete failure in the logic of your comment?

I'm assuming if a review of 5 or lower dropped in an hour, it would suddenly be legit though judging by your history. Crazy how people make such obvious contradictions based off of the platforms they play on. Pretty sure you'd be the first to defend QB from negative criticism based on baseless speculation & pure conjuncture, and yet here you are.

magiciandude2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

"Even if the current reviews are fake, I'm certain the final product would still be a great title."

That is what I replying to. Not the great scores. Thanks for replying though. ;)

jb2272931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Haha where is the nonsense here? You literally couldn't dispute anything I said so you just try to deflect & ignore.

You are the one trying to spread the 5 hour rumor like wild fire through every R&C article (no agenda there) & yet still say that the positive reviews are fake. You say that a game is "not great, just good" based off of nothing but pure speculation & completely in the face of "great" scores from people who have actually played the game.

None of what you said made any logical sense & you are calling basic logic nonsense? I guess that tracks...

rainslacker2931d ago

When I get my copy on Tuesday I'll be sure to set a stop watch to keep track of how long it takes me to finish. I'll even do you a solid and save the extra stuff for my second play through.

Then you can have a definitive Sony fan either backing up or refuting your assumption based on nothing, and all will be good, and you won't have to take the word of a random post on Neogaf.

Why you care either way is beyond me since you won't even be buying or playing this game...but hey, glad to help out a fellow gamer in their quest to dismiss anything Sony related.

magiciandude2931d ago

I'll play the game, either by renting or by playing a friend's copy on my PS4.

But not buying it. Keeping my money for Dark Souls III, Doom (maybe, if that turns out to be any good), and Uncharted 4 Collector's Edition.

rainslacker2931d ago (Edited 2931d ago )

Be sure you time your play through then. I'm interested in comparing results.

Or...you know, you could wait for more reviews to decide on if you should buy it instead of relying on an unverifiable source on neogaf to base your decision on. I know the neogaf comment serves your agenda, but nothing about it screams "beyond all doubt".

Realms2930d ago

@magiciandude

You been trying so hard to hate on this game it's not even funny I guess some people are still salty because MS exclusive is not getting the praise they think it deserves. So tell me are you going to say that DS3 reviews are also fake?

rainslacker2930d ago

So I read the rest of the posts after the one guys post, and it seems he did rush through it, admitted to not trying to do anything extra, and even admitted that it was a blast to play, and the short time shouldn't discourage anyone from playing it.

Even a guy from Insomniac stated that that would be an extreme time(on the low end) to try and complete the game, and said there would be no way to complete it that fast if one cared to do anything like actually have fun with it[paraphrased]

But I guess you and Rookie just rush through games to get to the next one right? never do anything extra in games, in which case, you would have been able to complete every R&C game in about 6 hours or so.

So, given that, why are you and Rookie so adamant about it being so short?

Could it be both of you want to make rash judgement over some random forum post without reading further because it suits an agenda?

DigitalRaptor2930d ago (Edited 2930d ago )

@ rain @ jb227

It's both of them dude... Both attempt to hide an agenda in their own unique ways - also change their avatars to display PlayStation iconography to give an impression of impartiality whilst trolling the brand, its games, promoting Xbox and inventing trouble in instances like this.

Christopher266d ago (Edited 266d ago )

AMD themself said it was a driver issue.

You should probably make sure it is Sony before trying to fling mud.

ModsDoBetter266d ago

@Generic with the cope:

From DigitalFoundry,

"The comparison, which was shared by Digital Foundry, was accompanied by a written analysis that goes over some of the port's best features, such as good scalability, which allows players with the proper hardware to enjoy much better visuals than on PlayStation 5 and those with underpowered machines to have still a decent experience barring some stuttering, and issues, such as missing transparency effects at max settings, texture loading issues, shadows issues with ray tracing enabled, stability issues and more. With the additional disabling of ray tracing on AMD GPUs due to stability issues, it feels like this is yet another port that was launched in an unpolished state and that will require multiple patches to be in a truly acceptable one."

AMD has always been crap compared to Nvidia. The only advantage they have is price.

DarXyde266d ago

And power efficiency. And arguably better performance on 1080p/1440p cards. And availability.

Nvidia cards really aren't worth hunting high and low for when there are very comparable AMD cards that are cheaper. I really have to give credit to AMD for their very frequent and consistent grind with RDNA. This issue I reckon is a developer level problem.

Can't really miss with either, but considering Jensen and Lisa are relatives, they probably laugh about these debates over a very expensive holiday dinner.

iAmyRose266d ago

Naw AMD have had instances of being good, Nvidia do have better features, raytracing and AI performance if you play with software that uses it though.

KeeseToast266d ago

@DarXyde
Power efficiency is not true at all this gpu generation. Nvidia‘s 4000 series is more power efficient that AMD 7000

DivineHand125266d ago

I believe AMD offers higher vram at lower price points compared to NVidia. We have found out that this generation needs at least 8GB to load the highest detail textures at 1080p.

This issue with the drivers will eventually be fixed for Ratchet and Clank, however, the vram issue NVidia has on their midrange and entry level cards can only be fixed by spending more money on a higher end card.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 266d ago
CantThinkOfAUsername266d ago

AMD has already confirmed it's a driver-related issue on their cards. Besides, AMD 'users' can't stop telling us how not important Ray Tracing is, how they always play with it off, and how it's an 'Nvidia gimmick.' This shouldn't be a problem for them I believe.

On a side note, kudos to Nixxes and Sony for releasing one of the best PC ports in 2023. Amazing graphics with Ray Tracing, great performance, detailed system requirements, plenty of graphics options, all upscaling technologies (DLSS, FSR, and XeSS), DirectStorage 1.2, and native Mouse and Keyboard support.

INMATEofARKHAM266d ago

Not surprised by an AMD driver issue... I love they are in the market and help keep Intel honest but I've had some whacked driver issues with then so I always just go with Intel anymore.

I'm sure they'll have it fixed in the coming days, if it even takes that long, just one of the joys of PC gaming.

ChasterMies266d ago

Imma just sayin’, this is why I play on consoles.

Good-Smurf266d ago

No issues at all on PS5 and some already called me being trolling yesterday.
No telling how well it will run on my PC because there's too things that can go wrong there being High End Nvidia stuff and everything.

MadLad266d ago

Consoles are highly limiting; and when devs screw up optimizing their games on console, you're screwed. You don't have the option of powering through it.

Binarycode266d ago

That's why always wait and see what the game plays like on any device before you buy.

I think they've done a good job porting it to pc, but it needs to be able to run on lower end cards and should have a ram indicator to show how much video ram is being used.

ChasterMies265d ago

That’s why I play on PS5. The user base is so big, devs can’t afford to screw up optimizing their games for it.

MrVux000265d ago

Looking at the overall state of PC gaming and its ports of AAA games for the past 3-4 years vs consoles ports.

Not really helping your case.

1nsomniac266d ago

People never listened when I said that this game doesn’t use “real” ray tracing on PS5. I believe it uses a very clever advanced/modified screen space reflection system. Which is why the real ray tracing doesn’t work on pc.

Outside_ofthe_Box266d ago

Does it matter? I thought we were past this "real" nonsense. The end results matter more. If you can't distinguish, who cares. If it allows for better/more stable frame rate who cares. MS f'd everything when they started using terms like "true" and "real" in their marketing when they launched the One X last gen. People are finally starting to realize that "True 4K" doesn't matter if you have to sacrifice framerate to achieve it. In the end something always has to give if you are truly pushing the hardware.

Binarycode266d ago

Raytracing reflections are used on PS5 as they are in Spiderman, Same engine. tested by professionals with first hand knowledge.

PC Ray-tracings problems are bugs and on AMD side a driver issue.

Lastly if AMD want to compete in the RT space, they need to come up with a solution. As in a unique chip to do it, not just make the gpu with some driver things help it. It's miles behind Nvidia.

We needed remakes of Jak and Daxter more than pumping out an unnecessary "remake" of Last of Us.

Then again, we're hilariously now getting a "remake" of Horizon Zero Dawn, so Sony is already outdoing themselves.

neutralgamer1992507d ago

😂 man really HZD just came out

MadLad506d ago

People on here go at me because I always take jabs at Sony, but it's because I want to see them do better.
Do they make great games? Of course. As of this gen does their ecosystem suck? I'd say definitely yes.

They're becoming more anti consumer by the day.

neutralgamer1992506d ago

Mad

It's not PlayStation bro it's Jimbo and his cronies thinking the success of because of them and not guys like Shawn layden, Andrew house etc

MadLad506d ago

I get that. Jim needs to go. At the same time, we're still the consumer, and Sony is still the people doing the hiring and writing the checks. They need to stop turning a blind eye to how Playstation is being handled right now and get things back on track.

This isn't last generation. Xbox is real competition again. You're seeing a lot of people getting tired of what they're doing with the brand the last couple of years.

Vengeance1138507d ago

God of War? Hello? Is Kratos not a PS2 mascot? Hard to think that he's not.

SonyStyled507d ago

Beat me to it. When I read the headline I was like “huh?”

Lifexline507d ago

I don’t think so for some reason the title mascot is always given to “platformers” characters like Mario in particular when it comes to games.

Miscrosoft tried d to make master chief it’s mascot but it never really stuck because those characters appeal to a small percentage of gamers.

Vengeance1138507d ago (Edited 507d ago )

God of War on PS2 does have platforming elements in it, if Jak & Daxter and Ratchet can be considered platformers with the inclusion of minor platforming elements in them then so can God of War.

What a mascot is though is simply a game series based around a "named character". Solid Snake is a mascot, Gabe Logan from Syphon Filter is a mascot, Lara Croft is a mascot etc... we really don't get many franchises based around a single named protagonist anymore.
Master Chief is 100% Microsoft's mascot and yes he does appeal to a very wide range of gamers. He's a space marine much akin to the Terran in Starcraft, whats not to love.

darthv72507d ago

blinx was the xb mascot, not master chief. but they gave up on blinx after the 2nd game which is sad as there was lots of potential there. They should bring him back.

abstractel507d ago (Edited 507d ago )

So the definition of a mascot is that they have to be cartoony and platform characters? Makes little sense to me.

Mascot, Icon, whatever word you want to use, Kratos is definitely part of that Playstation definition. And yeah, Master Chief is one for Xbox for whatever it's worth.

Nahh we don’t need these kind’s of games we need more walking slimulators like Naughty Dog games and remakes of games that aren’t even 10 years old because they make money right Sony. The fact that R&C is still around AND still good is a goddamn miracle that i’m very grateful for.

"We need more walking Simulators"

Like Hellblade 2?

lol it's funny how your only game is about Sony games because Microsoft has no games to compare to :p

Smellsforfree507d ago

Which is absolutely fine since he wasn't comparing Sony to MS in his comment to begin with.

Its obvious your just hating levii92. You can call last of us whatever the f you want Ill call it one of the best games Ive played. Also if you cant see the huge drastic difference in graphics between a ps3 and subsequent remaster to ps4 which didnt change the looks to much to a remake for ps5 where the graphics are phenomenal then thats on you lil guy. And its far from a walking simulator Id guess you never even played it.

Truth is the last of us is fantastic and if you dont wanna pay that much for it wait, if you even play ps which I doubt. It was just 50 bucks everywhere. Im still waiting until its 30 or so cause I dont like to spend over 30 40 bucks on any games these days.

On the bright side atleast you can stand in the corner or something cause I know the other system doesnt have alot going on these days.

Bitter because your console can't produce games lol.

Levii, does it bother you that the remake came out 9.25 years after the original? Would your balls not be squeezed as hard if it was delayed 9 months?

Rocosaurus507d ago

You are not wrong. The probably two biggest ps5 exclusives next year are the second chapter of FF7 (remake) and Knights of the old Republic (remake).

the last R+C (rift apart) was definitely way better than I wanted to give it credit for before playing. still one of the best, most impressive ps5 games imo.

the game is so good, the only flaw I want to highlight is the fact that it's a little bit short for my liking. I want more of it damn it!
