A Bloodborne convert plays Dark Souls III

GMD: Back in 2010 I had to review the original Demon’s Souls on PS3. We did not get along. While I appreciated it trying to stand out from the crowd with its bastard hard difficulty and measured approach, it wasn’t for me. There’s a fun to challenge ratio I find acceptable in games and the unresponsive combat and miserly checkpoints just didn’t sit personally.

By the time Dark Souls appeared, I was relieved to see another member of staff take it on instead. And that was the last I saw of the series until From Software released Bloodborne in the PS4. Our Souls-friendly staffer was yet to grab Sony’s new machine, so I found myself handling the beta and review. Then something strange happened, I started to like it.

I'm in the same boat.I've always stayed away from all Souls games because of the unforgiving difficulty.I dived into the world of Bloodborne & I loved it which I'm still playing.I'm going to get DS3 also because it looks & somewhat plays like Bloodborne from what I've seen. The author of this article haves my hopes up that it's going to be a good ride!

My wife never got into the Souls games before, but she fell in love with Bloodborne. It's her favorite game on PS4 and she's almost got the Platinum. It's funny too because I was worried she wasn't even gonna try it and now here she is NG++ and beat the DLC and all the optional bosses (except the chalices, she's just working her way through those now).

I'm gonna pick this up and see what happens..

Elda3311d ago

I'm have to beat 2 more bosses in the dlc & the one before the last "Kos"is no joke I've just been leveling up.

fenome3311d ago

Yeah, I haven't even made it all the way through the DLC yet, I keep distracting myself with other games, gonna have to get serious about it one of these days. I watched her fight both Orphan Kos and Laurence the first Vicar and they look ridiculously hard, not looking forward to it. Lol

Elda3311d ago

Absolutely!..that's why I haven't finished either.I have so many games between indies & on disc including more to come.I'm glad I'm off for 3 1/2 months from work starting this May,I'll be able to finish a lot of games.

fenome3311d ago

How the heck did you get 3 1/2 months off work?! lol

I work at a university.

Should I be concerned about frame rate in this game? DS2 first sin 50 fps was a problem on xbone for a lot of reviewers compared to PS4 60 fps. Now this game is running 30 fps ps4 and below that on xbone. Is 30 fps suddenly not a problem for dark souls? I enjoyed DS2 first sin on console

Forn3311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

I'be played Demons Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 on PS3 @30fps with the occasional drop (or more) but the games are just so darn good that it didn't bother me all that much, if at all. Same with Bloodborne (ppotentially my favorite game ever) on PS4 which is also @30fps. Shouldn't be too concerning.

Forn3311d ago (Edited 3311d ago )

*I've played

thekhurg3311d ago

60fps is nice but the games are playable at 30. It's when there are drops that it impacts the game negativity. That awful frame pacing issue is present in both console versions though, which kind of sucks.

thekhurg3311d ago

Have you played salt and sanctuary?

Der_Kommandant3311d ago

No, and i only hear good things about it, but right now I'm warming up playing scholar of the first sin, I just reached Dragon Aerie, i need to finish DKS2 again before starting DKS3, but i definitely gonna check out that game.

I tapped out of Demon's Souls after a few bosses back when it released, knowing that it was a great game, and that I was just not patient enough to get past the difficulty at the time. Now I'm very eager to borrow it off a friend, dive back into the Souls series, and move on to Dark Souls after Demon's is complete. Bloodborne will be one of the first titles I pick up on PS4

fenome3310d ago (Edited 3310d ago )

You won't regret it, i loved Demon's Souls, but Bloodborne is on a whole new level. It's so fast and aggressive, it's easily my favorite in the series.

Look things up online, and I don't mean 'cheats', or anything like that. The online community is where these games stand strong with a cult following, they're knowledgeable and respectful. If you have any questions, just ask, people will provide an answer as far as story, shortcuts or just aspects you might not be aware of. There are some hidden places, and the chalices are confusing until you understand what they are. There's not typically easy ways around bosses, it's just do or don't. Slam into the wall until you break it down..

Thank you for all the info, it has certainly motivated me to prioritize the Souls series even more among my vast backlog. Luckily, one of my oldest friends is a massive Souls veteran (with all platinums), which is funny, considering that I showed him Demon's Souls prior to release. He recommended the same, encouraging me to get involved with the community, as well as to stay persistent and focused.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls

Review: Mastering Dark Souls 3 Is A Monumental Achievement - Gamescordia

Dark Souls 3 is easily the most replayable game in the Dark Souls Series. But, is the game good enough to spend nearly 10 hours killing Silver Knights alone?

These games bore me to tears. I don’t mind the difficulty it’s just the constant killing the same enemies over every time you rest that makes it so monotonous

jznrpg528d ago

You open up a lot of shortcuts so you can skip many enemies. But if I don’t like games I don’t buy them.
