DTOID: I feel mocked by this game. It's engaging for just long enough to pull the rug out from under me and scream in my ear, "surprise! I suck!"
Wow. This game is getting terrible reviews. What a shame, because I was seriously looking forward to getting it. Not going to waste my time on something as broken as this.
I'm dreadfully disappointed. I thought this game would recapture the gothic horror theme I've been missing after Konami gave up on Castlevania. The art was perfect; I especially loved the care given to lighting effects. The soundtrack fit well. I just don't understand how they could have messed everything else up. Wolf Brew Games, Slain!'s developers, boast 36 years of experience on their official Twitter page. What do they have to show for it? Terrible writing? Uninspired combat? Glitches? Poor SFX? There's a video in the comments of this review that shows the ending to the game. Here, watch for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/wat... An ending with no sense of resolution, no rewarding final boss fight... it was as if it took 10 minutes to slap together in a mad dash to get this game out as soon as possible. In that video, the credits wouldn't even load. It's as if the game was ashamed of itself and the developers who made it. Even if Wolf Brew Games gets it together, fixes everything, and presents the quality experience that should have been there in the first place, I will never be able to wash the taste of this terrible launch mess out of my mouth. I almost want to apologize on their behalf to the fans who kickstarted this and bought the game on day one. At least those fans and I can rejoice in Steam's Refund Policy, and the upcoming Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
