Always surprised people still play this game when a new article comes about. I played it, beat it... and that was that. Very average game at best IMO. Whatever so many are addicted to, I guess I just don't see it.

xrapperkdx2951d ago

I was addicted to this game year 1. Once they came out with the taken king i had to abandon ship. It was fun while it lasted. Heck the community is still going pretty strong.

rezzah2951d ago

Same here, though I might jump back on to try out the new strikes on April 12.

respekanize912951d ago

2+ months sober from Destiny...well over 1000 hours logged...they were able to tap into the same kinda of feeling you get from a slot machine. ALOT of people gamble, they managed to replicate that feeling in a video game.

It actually hurt my ability to enjoy other games.

Bungie suffers from over promise, under deliver syndrome.

They deserve all the salt they get from the community.

With that said, ill still throw my money down on Destiny 2 like a douche, so i guess they win anyway :-/

Calither2951d ago

I'm in that same boat. God forbid this new update is legitimately fun because I'll just get sucks right back in.

InTheZoneAC2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

I probably won't buy destiny 2

but everything else you've said up to that point I agree with.

Other games I constantly bought during sales were simply neglected. And I always felt I had to keep up with this game to "stay relevant" in it and had no time for anything else.

I logged on once or twice in the last few months and had no desire to play more than a few minutes each time. Tried crucible and it was again terrible.

I'm enjoying The Division and all my other games. Destiny was like a cancer.

wsoutlaw872951d ago

@calither the new update is just a higher level POE so if you thought that was fun then you probably will, but thats all it really is. Plus some pretty armor colors.

xrapperkdx2947d ago

Yeah new strikes wont get me to return. The fire is long gone. I use to play with like 8 people and they've all moved on.

Why are you "always" surprised at a game others are still enjoying? Fun is subjective.

BrianOBlivion2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

I bought the $99 digital download when it came out and I played through the stupid campaign. I was pretty pissed that the ridiculous "story" was a lie and for being told by completely unexplained characters with zero development, that even THEY couldn't even be bothered to elaborate on ANY of the f*cking story:
-The Speaker: "I COULD tell you..." blah blah blah not actually telling me anything...so what the f*ck is the big orb over the city anyway? I still don't really know...
-Some completely random unexplained robot chick: "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" Seriously? F*ck off then.
-Some unexplained queen (of some garbage floating in space) and her ponce brother add nothing and offer nothing.
-Only your Dinkbot gives you the why of anything at all by way of an explanation, if only in snippets.
I also hated the the absurd grind. The last 4 days in a row that I played before I said f*ck it and f*ck this game was just grinding the same crap over and over with ultimately ZERO progression and ZERO useful rewards or loot.
I'm not into multiplayer at all, so I never entered the crucible and have no regrets about it but was pissed that I was excluded from the strikes and raids.

...All that being said, I'd heard good things about The Taken King, so a year and a half later I decided to give it another shot...
It seems that they've fixed a lot of what was broken about it. The story is still pretty abysmal, but less so and the game's still a bit grindy, but gives you the sense that there's genuine regular progress. The reason to play Destiny is the fantastic combat mechanics. Few games exist that can compare as far as giving you the sense of becoming quite powerful, balanced by the challenge and the excitement of the battles.

Add the fact that I am now finally getting to solo the strikes via a simple time hack and I now love the game for what it is. Definitely getting my money's worth -especially compared to the campaign value offered by most FPS games.

Say what you want about Destiny's failures... But MAN do they have some VERY talented artists among them!

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter337d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell336d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig337d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast337d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g337d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka337d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai488d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface487d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard484d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
