Hi everyone, Pierre Hintze here – Game Director on Kill Strain at SCEA San Diego Studios. I’m here to talk about the Strain. No – not groin strain… Kill Strain!
Kill Strain is an exciting and unique title we’ve been working away on over in our San Diego internal development team. It’s a highly competitive top-down action game with two teams of humans battling to control resources. It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s highly addictive – but there’s a twist.
With thousands of games over the years, it shouldn't be a surprise when a Kill Strain joins the litany of forgotten PS4 games.
Sony needs to quit wasting its time on mid-tier and free-to-play games like Drawn to Death and Kill Strain. Nobody wants them. They want quality games.
I'll say it again...what some folks may think is garbage someone else may think it's a treasure.Different strokes for different folks.
Diversity.
Not everyone wants to play Forza 7, or Mario's Fantastic Voyage 18.
What kind of nonsense is this? PlayStation is pumping more exclusives than both Microsoft and Nintendo combined. Whatayawant you ungrateful sacks of dung.
Yeah, and that's what the author ignores. That their desires aren't everyone's desires. He may have a point if Sony didn't also have the kind of games that he claims to want....at least according to the description because I refuse to give cheatcc a click....but they most certainly do, and those games he says no one wants don't take up much time in Sony's marketing, and likely aren't getting huge resources behind them.
I can think of a ton of the mid-tier or lower budget games from Sony which have gone down in history as some of my favorites. Some games they have that didn't sell so well have been some great experiences. I'm not into every Sony game, but should we give up things like Hot Shots golf because it's not AAA? What about Gravity Rush, Freedom Wars, Puppeteer, or Dreams? LBP didn't start off as a AAA title, it just had that kind of quality to it.
The only time releasing these kinds of games is a problem, is when it's the only kind of games that they release. Even then, it just means I wouldn't be that interested in the products(see MS right now), and I'd willingly accept there are others that might actually like it. I'd never say they don't need those games, or need to drop them, Id just say they need to make more games that would cater to more people.
Well I would have agreed before you consider sales. So, I'm not saying they have no place(small games) but, they are not getting the horizon/uncharted sales.
That's probably okay as long as their budget isn't big like AAA titles you mentioned, I imagine any reasonable person would do their best analysis and adjusted the budget to meet sales expectations (doesn't always work that way though).
Umm.. what? we get quality AAA games and it's nothing wrong with having free-to-play games. Did you really wanna play a game called Gnomageddon? that sounds like trash and i'm glad Sony cancelled it. I know these cheap games tend to be terrible, but it's just something to play when buying the console.
As long as sony continues to make epic single player games i don't really care about their multiplayer excursions from time to time
I'm sitting here reading the headline, and then the excerpt, and I'm asking myself how do you cherry pick a couple less popular games while you just act like the rest of the catalog isn't a thing.. And then I see dispatches.cheatcc and I post this and leave.
There's enough room for both, plus...can anyone really truly complain about a lack of great quality games on PS4?
Lol what?? We just gonna ignore horizon, nier, persona, nioh, gravity rush 2, MLB the show, Yakima, tales of bersia, ff12 re, crash bandicoot, Wipe out and so many other big exclusive games that have released this year just so you can make a crap atricle....okay
I get what the author is attempting to say. I don't think she was knocking Sony per se. If it's going to be a free-to-play model, then it needs to be a beefy one, not something pumped out as f2p just for the sake of f2p. I understand that. I've played multiple f2p, but very few warrant my attention.
What a clickbait article ! Are they seriously try to get attention ? Because it didn't work out as they thought.
Hey Jenni how does someone who's so terrible at coming up with articles become the Site Editor for Cheat CC?
I think the writer of this article has to get the facts right. The PS4 has had more major exclusives released for it this year than at any other time. The rival console has one release as compared with over 15 for the PS4 this year and this writer is asking Sony to get on the ball? Drinking from the Microsoft through maybe?
When is this website going the way of Hip Hop Gamer? Nothing but click bait and hyperbole.
Remember when this site used to be a cheat code database and not a clickbait mill?
While Drawn to Death really wasn't me and lacked half a year of polish or so at release, it definitely has potential to be fun. Some of my friends play it once in a while just because of the sheer insanity of it :D
Besides, Let It Die anyone? That one is freakin' addictive ^^
Honestly, as long as it's good, who cares dude. At least they still have a load of exclusives getting pumped out. Whether or not some of those are free and below AAA standards doesn't mean it can't be fun to play.
LOL WTF???
NiOh
Yakuza
Nier Automata
Horizon Zero Dawn
MLB The Show 2017
Persona 5
Crash N Sane Trilogy
Nex Machina
Hellblade
Uncharted The Lost Legacy
Plus still to come...
Everybody's Golf
GT Sport
Knack 2
Matterfall
I mean, Jesus! What more could Sony do???
Yes drawn to death and kill strain are trash imo. But there are others that love them. One man's trash is another man's treasure. And Sony isn't wasting time there putting out tons of exclusives.
Sony has been on the ball since the release of the PS4. Saying otherwise comes from someone who's delusional.
If you said "Get on the Ball, Microsoft", then that would be a different story. Microsoft hasn't been on the ball ONCE since the release of the Xbone. They can't figure their heads from their asses at this point, and just dump a load of mediocre and subpar releases onto their consumers heads who love to convince themselves it's anything but(t).
"Get on the Ball, Sony"... lol... what a lot of phooey. Thinly veiled fanboism at its finest.
I would only agree if I were not too many top notch games on the PS4.
I really don't mind Sony spending time on these different games when the base is covered lock stock and barrel.
Besides I love these different games. Variety is great not only for gamers but for the gaming industry. It helps with innovation.
That didn't take long...
5.3/10 game I'm certain most people never played let alone remember. Color me totally surprised.
At least it's F2P.
San Diego Studio should make more good games like their first one, The Mark of Kri
This game was not good from the start, so I'm not surprised. After a few betas it was clear this game was never going to be good.
Mark of Kri is one of my favorite PS2 titles. Fantastic games. Picked up both of them from one of the recent sales. Love the setting and the art style.
"San Diego Studio should make more good games like their first one, The Mark of Kri"
SDS makes MLB the show. Most of the developers that worked on Mark Of Kri don't work there anymore. After they left (they formed a studio) they started making an open world Flash game, that ended up being cancelled, it had the battle system of Mark Of Kri.
I vaguely remember seeing this name on a couple of lists here on N4G. Other than that I had no idea what this game was even about or if it was even out yet.
Not the first time a Playstation game releases unnoticed. It's a bit of a shame. The idea was good. I for one, did know when it came out. And I do know that people here liked it.
Perhaps if u were involved in the PlayStation ecosystem you would've known?
That's the average score of the game based on reviews on N4G...
http://n4g.com/channel/kill...
That average is from just 3 reviews, though.
Just goes to show that people just weren't interested in the game. I guess it wasn't marketed well, but I also think on paper, at a concepual level, it wasn't very interesting. It's like a dumbed down Moba with some weird, and ultimately unbalanced, three team mechanics.
It's not a game that anyone ever asked for. An idea that shouldn't have been greenlit into a fully fledged game. It's okay to make mistakes though. Sometimes allowing developers the freedom to make these mechanics is also what allows them to hit their biggest successes.
i can understand them shutting down servers if they are dedicated servers that cost a lot of money but what about peer to peer games?
Even then, that's the biggest point of "cloud" hosting. It isn't expensive to spin up servers on-demand.
This one must really be a dud they'd prefer to consign to history.
You couldn't even form groups. It was just destined to fail.
At least when I tried it...
I heard of it, but never knew it was released to the public.
Looks like a repetitive mess to me.

I think the problem is the tutorial, but Let it Die is a fantastic PS4 exclusive f2p and we just got Drawn 2 Death free on PS+ so it'll be ok.
I never heard of this, it actually sounds like a cool concept, clearly it didn't work out though.
I guess you could say that it is just another game with a poorly executed cool concept like with Drawn to Death and Hardware Rivals.
At least with "Drawn to Death" that is a current PS4 free game if you have a PS+ subscription although you do need a PS+ subscription to play it. Whilst I am not interested in online shooters it would be interesting to see how long the game lasts when you have to pay for it.
The game "Hardware Rivals" is a combination of single player, couch co-op and multiplayer so even if interest in the online component wanes you can still play it.
If you buy an online only game that game will only be playable as long as the servers that host it are available. Having a campaign (single or couch co-op) is a great way of keeping that game alive although obviously, that depends on the interest of the buyer.
Like it, on not all, online only games will have their servers shutdown (usually when interest wanes) eventually. How long? Well, that is a good question and one that is difficult to answer since there are online only games that date back to the late 1990's that are still played today while some fairly new games initially had a good start and now have only a few diehard players left.
I tried the beta. Was OK, but the beta was annoying with you only being able to play during certain times (most being a couple hours during the selected days). That and during the beta my unlocked characters kept resetting without me getting the coins I earned/spent on them back.
After beta, never really heard anything about the game at all.
I remember seeing it once in one of Sony's conferences. To be honest I completely forgot about the game.
Got this for free on ps plus but never got around to playing it. Just as well my backlog is too big anyway
for a year lol not likely they care about money and it was not makeing them any guess sony arnt saints like you fanboys say they are
Played 2 matches in the first beta and thought it was different but not in a good way.
It's a F2P game that released, reviewed badly, sold badly, and had its plug pulled. Calm down.
"Like sony did"
What???
Games out and looking at a bunch of comments here not a whole lot of people even knew what it was. Least they gave the game a chance, but clearly it didnt do well for them to make any good returns off it.
Big difference with overhyping a game and then just canning it with no release, vs a game that got little attention, releasing it, supporting it in that year time, and then shutting it down.
Either way both are bad, but at least this was given a chance.
I remember this game andsony announcing and pushing a bit for it, but in terms of hype not really much was created for it.
Well when it released there were articles. And a ton of people commented and new it was out and liked it.
In a sense that is worse, as some people will actually have spent some money on it. Unless Sony are refunding or compensating those people?
The game may be no great loss, but scrapping the servers doesn't exactly instill confidence in buying games digitally.
I also remember Sony San Diego being excited to announce Killstrain back in PSX 2015. Don't know if it was worth it though.
Yes it was... Well I guess you could say it wasn't a game, but it was free to play.
Shutting that down was even worse, as people invested more than just money into it. It was a creation tool, and all the projects created by the community went down with it.
huh i never said Microsoft dont do it but ppl act like sony are saints and never do no wrong and micosoft is the anti-Christ
Sony doesn't do it as much or as frequently (especially recently or with as many highly anticipated games/AAA IPs) as Microsoft.
I'm not even sad. I'm glad that they are shutting down this mediocre MOBA game, considering that it is thanks to this game Sony San Diego suffered layoffs. Since this also happened with Dead star last year, I wonder it it will be the same thing with Tomorrow Children and Drawn to Death.
Very likely. Unless it is an extreme success it seems it usually goes by unnoticed and barely advertised. It's almost as if Sony doesn't want be associated with certain games unless there is lots of hype around it.
Certainly this. Is sad that Sony only market the games that has the most hype like Uncharted, NMS, etc. while the smallest gets ignored. Just look at what happened with Soul Sacrifice Delia's sales due to the lack of marketing and physical edition.
Pretty interesting that the PS3 games having their servers shut down look perfect for PSVR. Maybe there's a sports champions 3, high velocity bowling and medieval moves being announced for PSVR at E3 and Sony wants those gamers to move forward to the new VR games. Maybe even a mod nations VR.
Guess we'll see in 2 months. But look at the videos and tell me these games translate to VR quite easily.

This is why always online and digital only are bad. Publisher shouldn't require always online for single players games
I would not say that always online and digital are bad. In fact, they are basically two sets of discussion.
Always online: If that game is free to play then I don't have any issue although I do get annoyed if the game devolves into Pay to Win then I just loose interest. Even if that game is not free then I would really like to know why I should pay for it given that it will be unplayable when the servers get shutdown although I will admit that some FPS's and MMO's are still playable years after they were brought out.
Digital: Where to start. Go to PSN or even XBox Live (PS4 and XB1 example) and you will see many digital games that are more expensive than the equivalent game on Bluray (DVD for XBox360) either new or second hand. If you are a careful buyer you will find some digital games (some AAA) that are incredibly cheap (special sales) so you really need to be aware of prices and decide appropriately. Of course, if you really prefer to have the media then you only have the option of new or second hand and at least Bluray disks are fairly robust compared to DVD.
Doh i forgot to try this , oh well so many great games to play i forgot about it. Not all games turn out great but they are trying all sorts of different things so i am happy about that.
I played this a few times because I was looking forward to a Moba game on PS4. After I saw that they were working on it and a beta was going to be available, I downloaded it and could never play the damn beta because it was only on during certain hours. When I finally got to play it, it was very underwhelming. A good game that not many people play on PS4 is Airmech Arena.
Just like another poster said, this same thing is going to happen to The Tomorrow Children, and Drawn to Death
When i went to download it a few months ago the game didnt even work... im not suprised just disapointed
Tell that to DotA and League of Legends...
That being said, I think the days of the moba market being oversaturated are over. Just a couple years ago everyone was announcing mobas and so many were so similar I honestly couldn't remember which was which. I don't know if there's any other than DotA or League of Legends that can really be called successful these days.
And this is why a game should NOT be based exclusively around an online component
In ten years time i will still be able to play Super Mario Bros on my NES or FFVII on my PS1, can you say the same for most modern game?
How in the world was my last comment "inappropriate"? Actually with the amount of venom N4G promotes with so many of the articles is shows the comment is very relevant! N4G really needs to get some mods that understand what the word "inappropriate" means.
