Silent Hill 2 Will Be a PS5 Exclusive Until Oct. 8, 2025, So Don't Expect an Xbox Version Until Then

Silent Hill 2 remake will be exclusive to the PS5 until October 8, 2025, so don't expect an Xbox port or announcement it expires.

darthv72233d ago

why does it feel like we are living in the early 00's again? Sony paying for either full exclusivity or timed was the thing back in the day... and its been 'remastered' for this generation.

raWfodog233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

The original SH2 was PS2-exclusive for only a few months. Remastered version is exclusive for over a year lol.

But both companies played the timed exclusives game for so long so it’s no surprise.

rlow1233d ago

Sony is the king of paying for exclusives. Anytime Xbox does it Sony fans go berserk. But when the shoes on the other foot they flop like a fish out of water.

raWfodog233d ago

@rlow

Stop acting like one camp is better than the other. Both sides have rabid fans that go crazy over silly stuff. Many gamers have common sense and are even-keeled. Which category do you fall into?

RedDevils232d ago

rlow1 probably have amnesia and forgotten how MS start the trend, now all of the sudden he's crying ironic.

Profchaos233d ago

Two fold publishers look at the loss in sales due to exclusivity and given how little Xbox sells in general Sony's generally able to get a greenlight for this behaviour if they fund it.

Microsoft think buying punishers is acceptable but they dug a huge financial hole as a result

Nintendo is just Nintendo and don't care

VersusDMC233d ago

Oh Nintendo didn't pay for timed exclusivity for Monster Hunter Rise, SMTV, octopath, etc...? As usual it's
only a "behaviour" for Sony.

Hotpot232d ago

Technically Nintendo has more Square Enix exclusives than Sony..

Chevalier233d ago

Yeah it's not like Xbox paid for exclusivity for games like Ark 2, Stalker 2, Warhammer Darktide or anything like that right? Oh wait.....

jznrpg232d ago

Or the majority of the Xbox 360 generation

How do we know the developer doesnt prefer to release on the console that sells games?

Just because that's the announced end doesn't guarantee it will be coming to xbox at that point or ever to be honest.

And even if it does it'll be an inferior version without the haptics and the Tempest audio which I expect will be a huge part in setting the mood in a game like this.

Obscure_Observer233d ago

"Just because that's the announced end doesn't guarantee it will be coming to xbox at that point or ever to be honest."

Whatever makes you sleep at night. Silent Hill will be release on both PC and PS5 and yet Konami made sure and let everyone know that their game is a timed-exclusive to Playstation. The Switch 2 and it´s PS4-level hardware won´t be able to handle it, so yeah, it´s definitely coming to Xbox.

"And even if it does it'll be an inferior version without the haptics and the Tempest audio which I expect will be a huge part in setting the mood in a game like this."

Who cares for Tempest when we have Dolby Atmos? And haptics? Please. There isn´t a single haptics implementation for games that comes near to Astrobot´s.

So yeah, I´m cool getting the best definitive version on Xbox Series X.

Have you played Returnal?

You mean PC and PS5 Pro. The Series S will prevent it from being the definitive version 😂

@Sonic1881

"You mean PC and PS5 Pro. The Series S will prevent it from being the definitive version 😂"

We´ll see. The S is not preventing S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 from being excellent on Xbox Series X running at 60fps according to DF, despite the fact that it can barely handle that game a stable 30fps at the moment.

@Knushwood Butt

"Have you played Returnal?"

No. Why? It´s better than Astrobot?

We'll definitely see 😂

Knushwood Butt233d ago

Better is subjective, but pretty much anyone would agree that the haptics are excellent. I got the Returnal platinum months if not years ago, and just started from scratch again last night. The audio and haptics are first class.

Hofstaderman232d ago

No guarantee XBOX will even be around by then.

Gravesinger_232d ago

The inferior version is the console version no matter what console its on..PERIOD.

Atmos is not even close to the same thing as Tempest. Atmos is a positional audio format Tempest is a chip in the console that can things like HRTF, ray traced audio and other forms of audio manipulation.

For example for Forza to have ray traced audio and Hellblade to have 3D audio they needed to use a software solution, not hardware like on PS5, and neither are nearly as advanced because each new source costs more resources which for all the talk of PS5 Pro's CPU you should be worried about that more on your xbox...

Regardless of whether the haptics are better than Astrobot, its 100% better than nothing which is what you'll be getting on xbox. And plenty of games use it great, just as a simple example of a third party game Jedi Survivor had over 150 unique haptic effects.

It's not about being better than Astrobot, it's about immersion.

Obscure_Observer232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

Dude, Xbox Series X has FULL NATIVE support for Dolby Atmos, DTS: X and Windows Sonic! Tempest audio on PS5 can´t come close!

The way you´re even trying to compare dedicated Hardware accelerated 3D audio on PS5 vs dedicated Hardware accelerated Dolby Atmos on Xbox Series X just shows how delusional you´re.

You believe Mark Cerny´s tech will simply beat the best in the market like Dolby Laboratories Dolby Atmos and Nvidia´s DLLS, just because you want it to be true. Smdh.

So I´m gonna ask again: "Who cares about Tempest when we have Dolby Atmos?"

"Regardless of whether the haptics are better than Astrobot, its 100% better than nothing which is what you'll be getting on xbox."

That´s true. Bad haptics implementations are better than no implementations at all. Whoever, though Haptics support are cool, people aren´t not falling in line trying to get a dualsense as the Xbox Series controller is still the most popular controller for gaming.

Again, Haptics are cool, but not the game changer that you´re trying making it up to be.

So yeah, I´m cool waiting for the definitive edition of Silent Hill 2 to drop on Xbox down the line. I beat that game on PS2 so for me, SH2 will be only worth a revisit and enjoy better graphics and new mechanics.

I´ll be enjoying S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 for my "survival horror" fix. So the wait for SH2 will be nothing but a breeze.

Einhander1972232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

"Dude, Xbox Series X has FULL NATIVE support for Dolby Atmos, DTS: X and Windows Sonic! Tempest audio on PS5 can´t come close!"

Dude, you factually don't understand the fundamental differences between the two. Atmos is a positional audio format made for cinema (like 7.1), Tempest is akin to a audio card in a PC.

Dolby Atmos can't do any type of audio manipulation, it just decodes audio and tells it which speaker to use. Tempest actually processes the audio in full and can manipulate the sound using things like ray tracing so sound from around a corner sounds like it's bounced off a wall around a corner or manipulation for example in a rainy scene Tempest can process the sound of the rain differently if you move under an object and the sound can even sound different if you move under a wooden roof vs a plastic tarp all in real time and for hundreds of sources with no drain on any of the other hardware.

To do ray traced or any audio manipulation on xbox they have to use a software called project acoustics, it runs on the CPU not dedicated audio hardware. And windows sonic is a form of HRTF which is processed by the CPU.

I mean, you can downplay the haptics all you want, but you're getting zero. And tons of games use it incredibly well, frankly you're only complimenting Astrobot, it's not taking away from any other game that uses the Haptics.

And xbox may in fact be the most popular controller but that's because XNA is built into every windows PC and the 360 controller was sold for PC and gained a dominant position by software/driver monopoly. But let me remind you that at one point xbox controllers were around 90% of the controllers used on Steam now that's about 55% with PlayStation controllers around 20% even though Microsoft doesn't include any PlayStation driver support in their windows software. I mean, a lot of people eat Mc Donalds hamburgers but that doesn't make it the best hamburger...

I know it's hard for you to accept that PlayStation does things better than xbox, but it's is what it is.

enough time to optimize for Xbox Series S

Hotpot232d ago

Should've used the resource to optimize for toaster instead, probably more would buy it on toaster than XB anyway.

P_Bomb233d ago

Hmm. Just a bit more than the 9 months The Medium was console exclusive.

TheNamelessOne233d ago

No wait on the PC end, so I'm happy.

For Konami to release the numbers i assume it means it's a success. They better let bloober team make more silent hill remakes or a new silent hill.

Knushwood Butt101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

Still need to buy it. Want to buy new, physical, but can't really justify it right now.

VGChartz's Chinh Tran: "In 2024, the candidates for Best Action/Adventure Game of the Year once again showed the versatility found in this genre. MachineGames masterfully showed off how first-person shooters can indeed be grand adventures, through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Nintendo gave Princess Zelda her due, giving her the protagonist treatment in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Ninja Theory finally released the stunning graphical showcase of Senua's Saga: Hellblade II. And finally, Bloober Team proved the legacy of the Silent Hill franchise is in capable hands with a stunning remake of Silent Hill 2."
