Bully PS2 vs PC vs PS4 Graphics Comparison

Its silly to me to port and upgrade the ps2 version when the pc one is cleary more desirable. What a waste.

LordMaim3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Its almost as though not everyone owns a gaming PC or something. /s

First of all it's not a port, it's an uprezzed emulation of the original game. They didn't decompile the original code to make it run natively on the PS4.

This being the case, I don't understand the purpose of making this comparison video. They're comparing a remastered version of the game to basically two versions of the original game. Of course the remaster looks better, and on PC no less. The PS4 uprezzed version will look better/clearer than the original, but not by much in a tiny video and certainly not enough to consider it a remaster. Especially if you're not going to show gameplay where most of the benefit is realized on the PS4 version.

Darkwatchman3319d ago

The point is this is many many many years after the pc version. No reason we couldn't have at least gotten a port of that version. The Xbox 360 version also still looks much better than the ps2 and ps4 versions. That's why I personally would not waste money on this basic ps4 version. It's 2016 and we get the worst version of Bully when there are 2 better looking versions that have been available for almost a decade. It's stupid.

LordMaim3319d ago

Darkwatchman: The reason is that a port costs money, time, and committed resources, while an emulated version costs them significantly less. PS2 classics are essentially a way to gauge interest in an old product to see if it's worth making a sequel without investing in a costly port that may not perform well. Bully may have been a critical success, but has never been a commercial one.

Herpofderpopol3319d ago

"Its almost as though not everyone owns a gaming PC or something" What!? I'm talking about the fact that they didn't bring the best looking version to ps4, use your brain dude. Why waste time with the ps2 version when there's the PC version. And I'm pretty sure any fan of the game who watches this video will be thinking the same thing.

LordMaim3319d ago

Write a letter to Rockstar I guess. They're the ones who didn't want to spend money making a port.

I Remember downloading nfs most wanted(2005) from psn for my ps3, it was the ps2 version, thought I was getting the pc version.

OoglyBoogly3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Are there spammers that just go around downvoting posts? How does someone disagree with this? Did they download the same game and somehow magically get the PC version or something? The people on this site are so weird...

iceman063319d ago

Yes. That and the accidental fat-finger on tablets and smartphones. (though they usually acknowledge it)

OoglyBoogly3319d ago

I understand they're just emulating on the PS4 version but, damn, the PC version looks noticeably better.

For a game I'm sure they'll be charge ~$15 for it would have been nice if they put some effort into porting the superior version of the game.

LordMaim3319d ago

If they'd spent money on a port, that release would have been $50 instead of $15.

Darkwatchman3319d ago

Valkyria Chronicles is a remaster(I saw some screenshots and a few texturesof distant buildings look better than the pc version) of just a last gen game. Not 2 gens ago. That is going to be $30....please tell me more about how a pc or Xbox 360 port of an originally ps2 game would cost $50? Oh, you can't? That's what I thought.

Darkwatchman3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Stop trying to damage control a clearly wasted opportunity for what could have been the best version of Bully.

LordMaim3319d ago

How is that damage control? The title didn't sell more than a million copies total across four platforms in its entire lifetime. I'm not disputing that the PC version was the better version. What I am saying is that the developer didn't want to invest a considerable amount of money into a port in case sales were as lackluster as they have been historically, when they could very easily gauge response with the PS2 classics.

As for price, Rockstar is not Sega. How much was the PS4 version of GTAV when it was released? Full price. $49.99 is a budget price for a Rockstar title. There are significantly more assets in an open world game like GTA/Bully than there are in VC. That equals time and money not only to update the assets, but also debugging and testing. You don't get that for $14.99

Darkwatchman3319d ago

Valkyria Chronicles sold very poorly on PS3 and there was still a PC version and now we're getting a PS4 version. That game has sold FAR less and is a much more niche game from a developer that doesn't have as much money to blow as Rockstar and YET we are still getting the best version of Valkyria Chronicles for $30...so again. You're just doing damage control.

LordMaim3319d ago (Edited 3319d ago )

Seriously, what are you talking about? Where are you getting this?

Valkyria Chronicles sold well over a million copies on PS3 alone, which is better than any version of Bully every sold in it's lifetime. As of 3/5, Valkyria Chronicles has also sold 210k on Steam.

And I am baffled how this is in any way damage control. Who's damage am I controlling? And how am I controlling damage by agreeing with you that the PC version of Bully was the best?

Darkwatchman3319d ago

That's over the course of several years and again, look at the developers of Valkyria Chronicles and look at Rockstar....Rockstar clearly has more money...Why do you think the second game jumped to PSP? To cut down on production and development costs because they didn't sell well enough. And then why do you think the third was never localized? Because the franchise as a whole didn't sell well enough outside of Japan for them to justify it.

Bottom line is Rockstar could easily port over the pc or Xbox 360 version(whatever is the better version) and charge $15 for it without bleeding dry of money. It's very easy to do a simple port of an already existing version. If you ever read the interview with whoever it was at Sony, this software emulation of ps2 games to ps4 is actually a complicated process and isn't as easy to do as people would think so.....bottom line. Ps4 got the worst version of Bully and is charging too much for it.

Darkwatchman3319d ago

I also just looked up bully sales to confirm your statements...as of March 2008, the ps2 version alone sold 1.5 million.....Damage Control, bud. Damage control.

LordMaim3319d ago

I seriously do not understand what your point is. Rockstar already spent money on a port, and it did not sell well by Rockstar standards. Why would they throw money away and port it again? Rockstar chose instead to release an emulated version instead of a full port. The PC version is better than the PS2 version. This is not in dispute. Rockstar didn't want to spend money on a port.

So again, I have to ask:
How is this damage control?
Who am I damage controlling for?
What does Rockstar's business decisions have to do with Sega?
What is your point?

New Bully Rating Sparks Remake Rumors, But There's A Catch

Bully has been rated for next-gen consoles by the Taiwan rating board, sparking remake rumors. But it likely has nothing to do with a remake.

90sGamingWasBetter248d ago

This looks a lot like Canis Canem Edit.

cammers1995247d ago

Bully and canis camem edit are the same game. They had different names in different countries.

Bully rated for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Taiwan

Gematsu writes "It is also worth noting that a PlayStation 2-emulated version of Bully is already available for PlayStation 4 via PlayStation Store, and Bully: Scholarship Edition is also already available for PC via Steam, so it is unclear what these new ratings may indicate."

lukasmain248d ago

This game needs a damn remake from the ground up. It would be amazing

gold_drake248d ago

wither a remake, or a another remaster.
cause the game is on ps4, altough its just a sort of revamped ps2 version

L.A. Noire And Bully — Rockstar's Lost Gems That Deserve A Sequel As Much As GTA

Hanzala from eXputer: "I do appreciate GTA 6, Rockstar, but if I could trade it for a new L.A. Noire or a Bully game, I'd do so in a heartbeat."

Skuletor383d ago

How are they lost? You can get L.A. Noire on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch and Bully is on the PS5 and Xbox Series too.

Psychonaut85383d ago

I want a new Manhunt game. But that will never happen.

Demetrius383d ago

Mfs are too sensitive nowadays and would cry instead of being concerned bout real world problems

Demetrius383d ago

Whenever gta 6 launch we won't be getting another rockstar title for another 10 years lol but on the positive side they bou to come back n show how open world supposed to be done 🔥

Skuletor383d ago

I won't expect any singleplayer DLC like IV's The Lost & Damned or The Ballad of Gay Tony after it launches either

S2Killinit248d ago (Edited 248d ago )

LA Noir should be a VR title. It would be perfect.
