Got one!! That was freaking quick!!

emad-E-three3381d ago

I didn't manage to get one :'(

SaveMeJebus3381d ago

Sorry to hear that, it popped up at 9:02 central time and by 9:06 they were gone. I wonder how many there were? I was one of the lucky ones I guess.

Eonjay3381d ago

What a bloodbath that was. I couldn't get one either. LOL well I guess we will have to wait for next round. Sony needs to increase production right now.

t-hall7853381d ago

The hype is real. Personally gonna take a wait and see approach. But the future of vr looks promising. Im building a high end pc soon so I'm only gonna get one of these things so may the best vr win.

G20WLY3381d ago

I'm reading that a lot! Maybe Sony are gauging demand. Well Sony, if that's your game, we have spoken, so get friggin' building so we can give you our money!

And announce No Man's Sky compatibility already!

miyamoto3381d ago

Mankind has waited a long time for this technology to finally become real.

Mankind has come a long way since 1939's View Master technology. What an experience that was!

TFJWM3381d ago

I got mine from best buy went with them first for the bonus points when I got back to amazon was gone. My bro will be happy if I can pick up a stand alone for myself next week...

GamingIVfun3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

Best Buy still has preorders. Sold out everywhere else.

akiraburn3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

I spent the entire time refreshing from both mobile and two different browsers, and the pre-order button didn't even appear for me until about 10:05 (eastern time). From then until around 10:15 the Pre-order button was there and I was trying the entire time to get one added to the cart. Every time I clicked the pre-order it said: "Sorry, this item is no longer available from the seller you selected. Click here to return to the item page and select a different seller." I assumed it was a hiccup on Amazon's end, and kept trying, waiting for it to be remedied.

But the pre-order button didn't disappear until around 10:15, and no matter what browser I used or even with trying a different Amazon account, it wouldn't let me pre-order one. Hopefully those of us that lost out this time can get one of the core units next week.

- Just a quick note, but I did find that GamingIVfun is correct, and Best Buy still has some available online. Gamestop's online store seems to also still has some in stock.

Hazydave3381d ago

Go to Bestbuy.com, they're still available.

I got one after temporary internet disconnect from comcast! That was very close lol! Got on Amazon before it sold out. I literally was in panic mode. Wow sold out in 4 minutes.

Next_gen_20153381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

I feel sorry for PS fans buying into VR because its sony. Tell me, how long can you play on VR before you need a break or get eyestrain?

Most likely an hour max. So you're essentially paying $400 for an hour of VR gameplay. Not worth it imo

badz1493381d ago

@Next_gen_2015

What? So...should PS fans feel sorry for Xbox fans because they bought into underpowered but overpriced console with attached camera that is basically useless for gaming and dropped by MS a year after release to drop the console price and the console that takes forever to install games, still render 720p games in 2016 and now it's exclusives are going to PC?

SniperControl3381d ago

@Next_gen_2015

Isn't it stated somewhere to take a 15 minute break every hour when playing games and that's on a normal TV, so what's the difference with what your saying?

I have spent hours at a time in VR using my DK2, no ill side affects noted.

Next_gen_20153380d ago

@SniperControl

terrible comparison. Playing on VR for 2+ hours is more detrimental to health than playing on a TV/monitior for 4 hours straight.

remember, VR can cause motion sickness and possibly seizures. VR is not built for long gaming sessions so its irrelevant to me

@badz149

Comparing the Xbox one to PSvr? lol if you're going down that route then xbox one has more games than PSvr

I got one from Amazon at 9:02 AM, sold out on GameStop, just checked.

jmac533381d ago

I must of got mine at 30 seconds past 7am. I had a feeling there was only a few minutes so I was sweating.

Kal-V33381d ago

Me too! Did we just become best friends! ;P

emad-E-three3380d ago

Lol hopefully in the 29th we can get one ;D

Deano19883381d ago

Why are these in such limited supply in the US? They have been available for pre order in the UK since the price was announced.

mcstorm3381d ago

I noticed that. That mean the UK has more than the US or the demand in the UK is not very high?

GamingIVfun3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

US is a much larger market than the UK.

WalterWJR3381d ago

Sorry but that argument is not valid my mcstorm. The US population is 5 times bigger than the UK. In your logic that would be the UK selling out in 20 minutes instead of 4.

Scatpants3381d ago

The US is much larger than the UK. Many more people wanting them.

Hairy Chewie3381d ago

It was availabe in Australia since the announcement. But launch day units sold out immediately. Second shipment is also almost sold out and could come in as late as Jan 2017. I think though that Sony will ship a lot more units sooner due to the demand.

What's hilarious are the reviews for this on Amazon already and the thing isn't even out yet!

Corpser3381d ago

Still available on bestbuy

Double_O_Revan3381d ago

Even if that stays true, Best Buy is terrible at taking correct preorder numbers and is notorious for cancelling extra orders.

Kidmyst3381d ago

And possible 30-40% of those orders will just end up on Ebay too.

Pongwater3381d ago

And possible you just grabbed that statistic out of thin air.

Kidmyst3380d ago

Yes I did considering I have no idea how many total are available. I'd love to have one, but face it, Ebay was flooded with PS4's around launch. Just checked Ebay for Playstation VR and 53 currently listed.

I got a pre-order in from Gamestop.

DEEBO3381d ago

I got me one but from gamestop.

They only had six!

Good luck to everyone.

Tru_Ray3381d ago

I got mine from Best Buy! Amazon sold out almost instantaneously. Then I tried Gamestop and they wanted to charge $30 for shipping... So then I tried Best Buy and voila!

I am going to have to find a buyer for the camera since I already have one...

Congrats to those that got one on Amazon. I was there 10 minuets early and started refreshing at 6:59. Pre-order button didn't even show up for me until around 7:05/7:06, and by the time I clicked it I got the "This item is no longer available from this seller" message. Tried going back, doing more refreshes, sometimes the pre-order button would be there, sometimes it wouldn't, but the result was always the same. Then a few minuets later it was gone forever and I missed out. I am quite ticked as this completely screwed up my sleep schedule and it wasn't even worth it. Couldn't get back to sleep for an hour and a half... then had to get up in an hour and a half with only 2 hours of sleep prior to waking for the pre-order. Now I got a full work day ahead of me with a s**tty amount of sleep and no VR pre-order.

Somethings real fishy about the timing of that pre-order button showing up since the results are consistent with everybody else's stories on here. Pretty sure Amazon rigged the system to favor some people and not others. Maybe it was based off of location? Perhaps east coast was first (7:01), then central US, then finally west coast(7:05, when it was already sold out and the pre-order button only showing up randomly when somebody cancelled their order). No idea why they would do it this way, but it's pretty clear we all didn't have an equal chance to get the pre-order.

I was real close to pre-ordering at best buy as it was still available, but I've been screwed over by BB before and would much rather get my pre-order in at a place I am much more comfortable with (Amazon). Plus with Amazon I get free two-day shipping, Best Buy probably would have shipped via the slow boat from China (if it had a store pickup option I probably would have done it). But then again, I bet many people will be getting emails from BB saying that their pre-order cannot be fulfilled due to lack of supply.

Ashunderfire863381d ago

You can always wait next week for the standalone preorder same time. Yes you have another chance, plus I think GameStop might still have preorders

ITPython3381d ago

@Ashunderfire86 - Yeah, I'm sure I will try again next week. Although I was actually really starting to want the bundle, as I have no camera and no PS move controllers (that I can find), and PS worlds looks like a great way to sample how VR works and would be a perfect way to show off to family/friends.

Not sure if PS Worlds is going to be on sale separately or not, or if it only comes with the bundle. But the camera, two move controllers and PS worlds (if sold as a standalone, which may retail for around $20-$30) is well over $100. But perhaps just making sure I am getting PSVR day one will be worth the few extra bucks due to buying all these items separately. Plus I can shop around a bit to maximize the deals.

Now I just hope the stand-alone PSVR is gonna be sold at Amazon, which is really the only place I feel comfortable pre-ordering from. If the Amazon reps actually know something for once, then according to them it isn't coming to Amazon (not sure why not, would be stupid of Amazon to miss a gigantic opportunity like this. Guaranteed to sell 100% of the inventory in a very short period of time, almost regardless of supply... it's win-win for them).

Magnes3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

I think that PSVR is a serious contender in the VR market I'm thinking it's going to be the biggest seller of the three main VR's. I think the other two are going to do well though with Oculus selling more than Vive. I am going to hold out to see which gets the most support then decide. As it stands though I really like the Vive from what I've seen.

kneon3381d ago

I think the 2 PC versions combined won't even match the PSVR sales in the first year.

The issue is the addressable market, PS4 will have sold 50 million+ by the end of the year, meanwhile VR ready PCs likely won't get past 20 million by then, and that's being optimistic.

The situation on PC will improve a great deal in 2-3 years as the required power becomes more mainstream.

Muzikguy3381d ago

I want to get one but I'm going to wait for a kiosk at Best Buy to test it out first. I'm glad to see the hype surrounding this though

XanderZane3381d ago

I'm curious as to how many Amazon had for pre-order. How many are Sony planning on releasing in October? It's a bit strange to run pre-orders this soon, with the system launching in Oct. I thought they would start preorders in June.

kneon3381d ago

It's not strange at all, this way they will have a much better handle on demand and will have time to schedule production appropriately.

XanderZane3381d ago (Edited 3381d ago )

Gamestop hasn't sold out on the PSVR Bundle yet. I could preorder one right now if I wanted.

I am fully on board the VR train Sparta07. Got my Rift on order too.

I preordered mine immediately, kept refreshing the page until it said preorder

DanielEndurance3381d ago

That's what I did too! I don't think it actually went live until a minute after the hour. That's when I booked it during the checkout process.

My computer was buckling.

Neonridr3381d ago

lol, spamming the refresh button.

theXtReMe13381d ago

Exactly what I did also. Since they were late in posting them, I originally tought they had sold out. Glad I stuck around and refreshed.

GordonKnight3381d ago

Scalpers are going to have a field day with this one!

badz1493381d ago

Just like with every other stuff with high demand!

kenmid3381d ago

Oculus rift is going for over 1000 on eBay right now

Ashunderfire863381d ago

Little hard to do that, because Amazon have that 1 purchase only policy. Scalpers have to do it with multiple retailers like Gamestop, Bestbuy, and etc. Some of these places won't charge you until the item ships. They might want to look at those retailers that have you pay later. But you can already look at the scaplers go on ebay lol!

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.h...

subtenko3381d ago

Its so stupid -_- :( >:(

Plz tell me no one really buys into this kind of thing. Theres no way someones gonna spend $999 on a PSVR.... you can preorder it later and then buy it on launch.

Would if the scalpers get scammed and the buyer doesnt even pay?

Goldby3381d ago

^ people want one now tho

Taero3381d ago

Funny thing is that every one of these listings is against ebay policy as you can't list an item for presale with a finish date more than 30 days before you would ship it.

nitus103381d ago

@subtenko

While I do agree with you, some people don't like standing in line and would rather pay a premium to get a product that they perceive will be sold out on release day. Basically it is these people that scalpers are hoping to sell too and I am quite sure they won't be disappointed.

Before the PS4 was released the scalpers were out in force and some did make a killing mainly because some people can't wait.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3381d ago
subtenko3381d ago

You are right, already on ebay. WTF, its just insane for people to sell it let alone buy it there where there will be more preorder available. How is scalping still a thing?!?

Anyone got an insight on this?

arkard3381d ago

People want instant gratification. It's really easy to do. Hate in me if you want but I plan on selling my extra one I ordered and the profit will cover a large cost of my VR. Be careful though if you buy from eBay. Most sellers require instant payment and your item is only guaranteed for 30 days. So if you buy now the Seller doesn't even have to ship an item, they get your money and ypu have nothing. EBay doesn't allow pre-orders over 30 days in advance but they can't keep up with the flood of listingsm at all hours of the day. And there is only a warning if you violate the posting policy, they will pull have to catch you multiple times.

Sony Faces Class Action in the Netherlands Over Allegedly Inflated PlayStation Store Prices

Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.

dveio18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

My personal opinion:

Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.

From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.

Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.

They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.

BeHunted15h ago

Because Sony knows people will be forced to pay those prices for single player and multiplayer games, not everyone prefers PC gaming. Sony also has a monopoly on PlayStation digital games. In 2019, they stopped allowing retailers and game key sellers to sell PlayStation digital games, making them available only through the official PlayStation Store

anast17h ago

The Dutch gov. wants a piece of the pie.

Eonjay17h ago

They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.

BeHunted15h ago

"How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD"

Because Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly, I can purchase Call of Duty at a huge discount from CDKeys or other gaming retailers. The only way to purchase digital PlayStation games is through the PlayStation Store.

djl348514h ago

Weird, I swore GoW, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, etc. were on the steam store....uh.....

BeHunted10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

@djI3485

I'm talking about PlayStation games that you can only purchase on PlayStation. I can purchase Steam and Epic games from 3rd party retailers and key stores.

"Sony to stop selling full-game download codes at retailers"

https://www.videogamer.com/...

Killer2020UK15h ago

About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.

Sony PS5 Era Profits Soar Past $13 Billion, Outpacing All Prior PlayStation Generations

Their recent Playstation revenue is also more than Xbox and Switch combined, obviously in large part due to 3rd party sales.

Christopher6d ago

I mean, if Sony is keeping third parties happy, kind of feels like a winning method.

GamingExplained1015d ago

I mean they have to, since they have 2 exclusives anyone cared about this generation, and those are now on PC. The rest is this creatively bankrupt string of remakes and remasters, taking advantage of the creativity of developers past efforts, and laying off teams creative side since all that work has been done already by previous teams.

By far the least creative generation ever.

lukasmain5d ago

@ Gaming-NEW-Troll account

"those are now on PC"

In that case. Xbox is Playstation's competition. MS have ZERO exclusives. ZERO. Nothing. Nada. Not a single exclusive.

Playstation has Astrobot. Demon's Souls, Astrobot Playroom, Gran Turismo 7, still not going to PC. They got Death Stranding 2 coming out in 3 days, NOT ON PC. Ghost of Yotei, not on PC.

That is 6 real exclusives MORE than Microsoft. Microsoft's Xbox is Playstation's competition. So lets compare.

I mean you brought it up.

Or does being "creatively bankrupt" not count when you have certain console exclusives going to PC years after they were released? In that case Returnal. Ratchet And Clank. Spiderman. Miles Morales. Silent Hill 2. And the list goes on

IRetrouk6d ago

Kinda always been that way if you look at previous gens, exclusives are important but they aint the main revenue generator.

Reaper22_6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

.While that is impressive. Microsoft made 13 billion in one quarter. Making up facts doesn't make them true.

Aloymetal5d ago

Your defense of Microsoft is only highlighting Lord Phil's and the lame MS mismanagement. Since you're talking about MS as a whole, imagine having trillions in the bank and still losing to ''tiny'' Sony PS and Ninty. It doesn't get any more lame than that.

People are generally paid for the work they are doing. Layoffs generally occur when there is no work for them to do (project cancelled, business slowing down, etc). I’ve been laid off from two jobs during my 40+ years of working so I know about these things. A company is not going to just keep paying people if there is no work for them to do, no matter how much profits they made.

And this is why the game output for ps5 has been a tad slower…

1) they needed to be… games take longer to develop, and they’d burn out their teams trying to maintain the same pace as ps3.

2) they can afford to… games cost more than ever to push boundaries, so Sony had to figure out a way to match Xbox’s clever profit strategies in order to afford to continue to innovate and take risks.

lukasmain5d ago

So much time was wasted on those Live Service shits. Glad they learned their lesson and have scaled that way back. Still haven't killed it, but I like it being in the background and not at the forefront

I don’t hate GaaS inherently, most are just implemented poorly.

Yeah double standards like some idiots who got to talk about unrelated profits as a talking point. Wish those damn parrots could stay on topic with game related profits.

Next thing these idiots will talk about is something unrelated like Nintendo made more off the Mario movie than all of Xbox studios TV/movie endeavors combined you know?

@Chevalier

Mind you that’s only AFTER buying all those other companies adding them to the revenue. It was a LOT lower. This is Activision, Bethesda, and others COMBINED to get that number.

Guys we're off topic here you know? Can someone bring us back on topic and tell us how much revenue Xbox studios does for movies and TV? Pretty sure we should also discuss how much Nintendo stands to make at Universal studios on Nintendo land and the rides should be a hot ticket this summer.

"Ouch! hahaha no wonder reaper wanna hide behind profits made by windows XD"

Yeah idiots with some sort of inferiority complex needs to get their win somewhere though. But wait shouldn't we get back on topic guys? Like seriously how much money do you think Fallout Season 2 will bring in?!

Reaper22_5d ago

Nah, reaper's not hiding behind anything. I'm just pointing out some facts. At first the narrative was Microsoft isn't going to make the money back from the ABK deal to now their profits wouldn't be as high if they didn't get the deal. This very topic is part of the reason why the deal was secured. Sony's dishonesty and reluctance to tell the truth about how much money they're making and lying about how much this deal would hurt their business. That strategy failed. They're are making a lot of money. No doubt about it and its good for the industry but don't get butthurt when Microsoft post their profits and you guys see they are also making a lot of money as well.

CrashMania5d ago

@reaper.

Microsoft don't reveal Xbox profits, sales numbers, or gamepass numbers, I wonder why that is?

You call Sony dishonest but at least they don't hide and obfuscate meaningful playstation numbers like MS do with Xbox.

Says the idiot who can't even tell the difference between Microsoft and Xbox? Lmao. Seriously all you're showing everyone again is how much of an uninformed parroting idiot you are.

But go ahead and post your evidence! Oh right again ZERO from a ZERO. Absolutely 💯 hilarious to see you stumble like the idiot you are.

Only because of games prices otherwise it’s the worst generation in PlayStation history especially for games

Reaper22_6d ago

Thats true. The article did mention game and prices were a reason. Its also shows their greed is no different than Microsoft. Laying off all those people but yet bragging about profits and still tried to stop ABK deal. What the hell!

Closing studios, layoffs, leadership changes, PS plus increases, multiple game cancellations and delays, total flops like concord. Slowest release of first party games of any generation and they just shut down PS stars I guess because it was costing to much.
Yet they announce record profits…..the greed here is insane, MS and Nintendo too. All of them milking gamers and we just keep lapping it up like a blood hound for a meal.
Them tariffs are really hitting them hard I see.

Well a part of running a business is a tight grip on that P&L sheet. In project management. It’s a known fact that the farther into a project you go, the more costly the corrections. Having something reach the definition of done, the end of the road, and it’s hated is a monumental loss of money. As games are usually made iteratively it’s like how was this not caught and course corrected several times before this point. Sony is definitely known as trusting and allows teams to make the games they want to make. They “trust the process”. The caveat to that big budget and freedom is if it bombs, especially if it’s your first game, you’re outta there. They have shareholders/stakeholders to keep happy. Where as normally a done game like Concord would give ROI as it was out in the wild. The cost of the project is recouped and turned into profit or delivered whatever value they wanted. If the game is now NOT coming out, how do they get that money back and stay profitable? By not paying wages for that team over a course of time that would have still been on payroll working on the next potential bomb, DLC for a dead game, and essentially costing more money.
It sadly isn’t greed, it’s business. They release these great profits because 1) it’s enticing for more stakeholders to invest, and 2) Despite failures they are still balancing the books and turning record setting profits.
How many live service games died at various stages of development? They are still this profitable? Imagine if the games came out and were hits to add onto the profits?

So, you're saying that over $10B of this is from $10 to $20 software price increases? Zero to do with increased market reach? Massive MTX from third-party games?

Vithar6d ago

Chevalier5d ago

They're talking about Microsoft quarterly profits like any true gamer would be doing.
