This has been know for some time. It's because of the forced V-sync. It's 30 or 60 fps (locked/chosen by the dev) and that's it.

V-sync means if the system doesn't meet its output budget it results in tear (the screen not being rendered completely and usually being flipped and outputted anyway) in order to continue outputing at the required rate. To the monitor it's still 30/60 frames though. So... it's crap to not give the option to unlock it.

Before people start in with "my pc gets more than 60 fps easy". You have to look at the minimum fps, not the average. Oh dear. Nasty "oversight" isn't it?

Eonjay3393d ago (Edited 3393d ago )

But how does disabling this feature benefits folks with more powerful cards? Why can't they simply give users the option?

Volkama3393d ago (Edited 3393d ago )

Freesync works fine with v-sync. Also, v-sync on the windows store isn't limited to 60hz, it'll go to whatever refresh rate your monitor displays. And v-sync is a means to prevent screen tearing, not introduce it.

Freesync (and crossfire) don't work on windows store because you can't run them exclusive fullscreen.

awi59513393d ago

Thats a lie its been comfirmed you cant turn v sync off this stupid store keeps turning it back on.

Volkama3393d ago

I didn't say you can turn v-sync off?

awi59513393d ago

Like i said before 144 hz monitors are more popular on pc now so they are nerfing our hardware those tards at microsoft. Not to mention VR needs 90 fps so this is stupid all around.

Volkama3393d ago (Edited 3393d ago )

Gears runs at 144fps. Or it would if it supported SLI. It's a hard target with v-sync, I guess 72fps might be more achievable today. People with 980TI and g-sync monitors are running over 100fps.

I run crossfire, so they're definitely nerfing my hardware. I'm not trying to champion the windows store or anything, there are real issues that need to be resolved.

awi59513391d ago (Edited 3391d ago )

Also in some shooters v sync can cause lag or performance issues alot of games perform better if you turn it off and let the game run at 100 fps its smoother than the 60 because if game is having some type of problems. You notice a drop below 60 you dont notice the drop at 80+ fps so to take away this option is just plain stupid.

DonkeyDoner3393d ago (Edited 3393d ago )

what a freakin mess windows store for amd, GOW broken and now this??

q8kik3393d ago

They're pro vulkan that's why

q8kik3393d ago

AKA a potential threat to DX.
Not necessarily from the freesync issues but from gow's god awful performance on AMD cards..... One has to wonder why that is.

rainslacker3393d ago

AMD has an interest in both...why would they support one more heavily than the other when they don't make anything off either?

FlyingFoxy3393d ago

Doesn't bother me, everything i want is on Steam anyways.

Kreisen3393d ago (Edited 3393d ago )

The problem is Microsofts way of competing nowadays is to try and choke the market into submission. Afcourse they love the Xbone, its their vision of the future for Windows fully realised. A app driven platform where your options are to either scroll to through the interface and buy something or GTFO. With anything that happenbs on it going directly through MS, total control.

AMD is really building hype around their unique partnership with Microsoft to help and build an advanced and seamless Xbox ecosystem across all Xbox consoles and devices.

I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.

Next year´s Xbox Showcase already looks promising and exciting. Here´s hoping they deliver.

InUrFoxHole8h ago

They had best show 3yrs in a row. Heading for another

VenomUK1h ago

Obscure_Observer said “I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimised chips" though? Seems ambitious.” To me, I interpret this to mean rather than having a couple of X/S products for launch and a handheld there is a longer term plan to release new products with higher specs at timed intervals. I’m speculating of course, but this could mean a spec bump every year or two, so that even if the PS6 or Steam Deck Home is released a year after ‘Xbox’ Microsoft can release an updated model that has a higher spec.

Fishy Fingers14h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Some odd, deliberate wording, no branding, not 'Xbox consoles, Xbox handhelds' specifically, feels and sounds like they're building towards hardware that anyone can be used or licensed to/by themselves and other manufacturers.

Multiplatform software and hardware 'Xbox/AMD APU'.

Obscure_Observer13h ago

I guess you missed Sarah Bond´s next generation Xbox announcement this week, were she clearly states:

"I´m thrilled to share that we´ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including, *our* next generation *Xbox consoles*."

But hey, I don´t think you´re entirely wrong, maybe MS will build their own Xbox consoles while licencing other manufactures to build and sell their own Xbox branded consoles. Who knows

I think you watched the wrong video. It's below the description, or you can watch it directly on YouTube.

Shares vision....we provide chips for money, this deal will sell many chips, we will make lots of money...good vision

Christopher13h ago

The marketing behind this is so heavy that I worry about the actual outcome. Why are they just not showing us the product, why all this talking in market speak?

Lightning778h ago

Probably because the next xbox isn't ready to release yet?

The marketing and rumors seem to be heavy out of no where. The rumor was a 27 release but it maybe it could be 26 new console launch instead.

Who knows.

True, they have pretty different audiences..and some People just have both at home or a PS and a PC that emulates more or less everything from Nintendo.

Knightofelemia17h ago

Xbox hasn't been a competitor since the XB360. Last generation and this generation Sony has been running circles around Xbox. As for Sony vs Nintendo Sony runs circles yes but I don't really see Nintendo as competition. Nintendo does their own thing and it works.

Details are important. Console sales yes. Overall games Xbox seems to be doing fairly well in that department.

LoveSpuds1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

MS were doing so well that they had to start selling their games on their main competitors system which in turn results in around 30% of each sale going to Sony as the platform holder.

I do think tjat MS' fortunes will improve now that they are actually selling games rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar.

Something that occurs to me is that the more success MS published games have elsewhere, the more stark it will become that selling games is much more profitable than renting them. If that becomes highly noticable, I wonder what the shareholders (who ultimately run the show) will make of a service which has stagnated for years?

drivxr17h ago

Console wars are over.

Eventually, everyone else will catch up to this fact.

attilayavuzer16h ago(Edited 15h ago)

I think it's all PS fans have left at this point. Console wars were always a competition for fourth place behind Nintendo, PC and mobile. If Xbox evaporates into a hybrid virtual platform, then PS will be perennially left in last place.

Christopher15h ago

Strange, I recall all those FCC documents and witness testimonies saying the exact opposite... Guess Microsoft doesn't know what it's talking about?

PanicMechanic4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Great analysis. Just joking.

Pretending like companies give a f about where they “rank” against each other is just super retarded. This isn’t the World Cup.

Tell me, how does “PC” compete against a brand like PlayStation? It just doesn’t make sense at all. What you just said, is complete and utter nonsense

Destiny108016h ago

microsoft wanted to crush sony into dust and they had the money to do it, but with such weak leadership it was always going to fail

Reaper22_16h ago

Had the money? They still have the money but the industry has changed since xbox 360. Microsoft is the number one publisher in gaming. I'd hardly call that failing.

IRetrouk15h ago(Edited 15h ago)

The industry hasn't changed though, just ms, Microsoft was the no1 publisher for a month in december 2024, the actual no1 for fy2024 was tencent if game sales are all that's being counted.

Profchaos15h ago

Money doesn't mean you'll be successful large corporations have entered and failed before like Nec

The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.
