Does it matter if there are no The Division reviews on release day?

Adam Cook: "Colm and Dan have to argue from the opposite stand-point, but the key thing here is that it's irrelevant if they believe it, deep-down, just that they convince the adjudicator (in this case that's me) if they believe it or not."

No. Because I'll be too busy playing it & making my own opinion of it than be bothered reading anyone elses opinion. Lol.

thrust3402d ago

Alpha and beta was enough for me to know this game is somethin special!

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

If reviews are that important just wait until the reviews are released until you decide to buy.

rocketpanda3402d ago

You miss the point of reviews. Some people don't want to be burnt when paying full price. People can make informed choices from reviewers and critics, as well as their own. Mind blowing right?

You can form your own opinion on any game and love the game and have a merry time, yet many could hate it and could of avoided a disappointment by checking what people are saying about the game. Why does someone need to spend money to make an opinion when there a professionals out there that can inform someone of what's good and bad with a title?

I bet those who bought Assassins Creed Unity on launch without checking reviews once the embargo lifted were so happy with their broken game, same for Arkham Knight on PC(thank god for steam refund policy), Street Fighter V missing a crap ton of content, many had no idea arcade mode wasn't in the game or any training aspect.

Many will be looking forward to the reviews, and any publisher that puts release date embargo on their games and those who support that, that is already a red flag and consumers should be wary, because if that wasn't the case publishers would be more confident in the product rather than restrict critic of the game just before launch so they can maximize purchases from naive consumers of what might be a buggy mess of a game.

Kyosuke_Sanada3402d ago

This guy get it. Bubbles +

Nothing wrong with making a decision but there's also nothing wrong with waiting and getting a second opinion.

respekanize913402d ago

You are really gonna trust someones opinion on an RPG/MMO game 12 or so hours past launch?!?!

Maybe after a week of solid playtime, I would even consider listening to someone else about what I spend my money on.

This game can not be reviewed day one...simple as that. It can be discussed day one but a full review of every little thing in the game it can not do

thrust3402d ago

Guess some people can not make there own mind up, that's the problem with the world today most people need to be told what to do/like.

rdgneoz33402d ago

"any publisher that puts release date embargo on their games"

There's no embargo on reviews. The servers won't be up until 12 AM on Tuesday... Most MMOs don't get reviews until after the game releases or turn servers on a week or more before launch so reviewers can log on and power level to cap, try out all the dungeons and raids (which would have insanely long queue times with no people on to play with), etc.

Overall, there are no real preorder bonuses and nothing forcing you to buy the game day one. People are free to wait a week till the reviews come out.

trenso13402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

Honestly no one should trust reviews good or bad. Most of the time site give 8's and 9's like candy without being objective on the game. While other sites are giving 4's and 5's even as low as 2's all because they have some agenda.

A score of 1-5 should mean this game is below average, has bugs and other technical issues that make it unplayable, incoherent story, etc that just make it bad. Not "I found this one mechanic boring to ME so the game is trash" This is way too common for an industry that is still growing, but can't get trust worthy media outlets for reviews.

A score of 6-7 Average game room for improvement but functions and falls short in areas. For some reason a lot of you and I'm talking about the ones who really care for reviews, think that a 6 or 7 makes it a bad game. That isn't true. It just means its an average/slightly good game this will appeal to those whom are legitimately interested in the game. The problem is that this score is almost never used. Since the in between of two extremes.

A score of 8-9 Would mean the game is very good and would appeal to a wide audience. Near perfect and just falling short of a 10 in some areas. THIS is the score I feel people need to stop searching for. Too often games are written off because they didn't get this score.

10 perfect nuff said.

If reviewers actually follow and standard score system like that, it would not only be easier to follow reviews but also call out media outlets on their bullshit when chastising a game or giving it a free pass. This is why the reviews for this game don't matter. Most of the reviews that would have came out for the game would have pushing their subjective view to help or hinder the game. Not to mention the ones that would have given it a low score just because its Ubisoft and "teh downgradzz".

Khaotic3402d ago

I have to agree with you on some level. But I also agree with the developer let people get the game play it and have some general opinions out there before some reviewers year it apart just because. I do question the integrity of some reviewers in the game industry

Right now it doesn't matter however if The Division turns into another Destiny, it'll very much matter and do a lot of damage to Ubisoft's reputation and credibility.

thekhurg3402d ago

Destiny is fine. Sorry YOU don't like it, but millions of gamers loved it and continue playing it every single day.

pompombrum3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

Here we go again with "millions continue to play it every single day" with absolutely no statistics or facts to back that statement up.

I do like Destiny and was playing TTK daily myself up until November. I've been one of the ones praising TTK ever since it launched but that still doesn't change the fact the game we got at launch of Destiny felt half baked and incomplete.

WeAreLegion3402d ago

An overwhelming majority of gamers were let down by that game. It promised so much more than it delivered. Even the most hardcore Destiny fan would tell you that.

It was a disappointment.

respekanize913402d ago

destiny is not FINE. I dont even remember how much time i wasted on that game(WELL 1000 HOURS) but TTK completely ruined the game and gave us nothing to do after 60 days...Im not chasing my tail to get to 320...NO THANK YOU

thekhurg3402d ago

Played a game for 1000 hours, complaining it's not fine.

Oh gamers these days.

Mr-Dude3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

Well said aibreeze

For me a review matters, especcialy in the case of a ubisoft game and future bungie games. I bet a lot of you would care for a review for say example No Man Sky? Doesn't matter what game for that matter.

I will wait for a couple of weeks, maybe longer, maybe a sale. But not at launch. I played both beta's, didn't like it that much. But, I like interaction with my open world, TD doesn't have this at least didn't show it enough.

Anyways, have fun in NY

Yes it does. If a game company doesn't have enough faith in their product to have it reviewed why should I have faith in it being good. Mind you, I don't take a single number as gospel when deciding if I should purchase or not but I do read for consistent pros and cons after many comparisons.

With the last of us ND gave out review copies out weeks in advanced and let reviews out days in advanced of the actual release date because they new it was something special. Iam always a bit suspicious when Devs don't lift the reviews embargo before the release date.

Well before I commit my purchase I will be looking at reviews because I see this game in the 7s or 8s with what I played with the beta. The combat was OK but not amazing and it should be amazing with this type of game and it all comes down to how much content is in the game for me and the reviews will tell me this without buying it.

thrust3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

is 7 - 8 bad to you?

thrust3402d ago

To review this game properly you would need weeks and it's an online only game the servers are not live!

The last of us hahaha that's mainly a single player game init like most of Sonys stuff.

respekanize913402d ago

WOW..so much fail in one post..how do you review an RPG/MMO style game before the servers are even live?!?!?

How do you see everything a game has to possibly offer 12 hours past launch...

short anwser...YOU CANT....

Go play a single player experience if you require such a safety net for $60 purchase. My boredom as a gamer alone pushed me to purchase The Division, If its a good game..BONUS!!!!

thekhurg3402d ago

It's not an embargo, dummy. Their servers don't go live until launch day which means reviewers can't play the game early, or anyone for that matter.

Kyosuke_Sanada3402d ago

Regardless, I am still going to wait and see how it fares for the first few weeks. I liked what I have seen of the game mind but it's not enough for me to purchase it day one.

seanpitt233402d ago

That's quite a convience I mean they couldn't open up their servers a couple of days before release I mean cmon. They want people to buy their game without anyone experiencing the full game and let people know what they think. Regardless I will wait and see there are way to many games coming up that is a must buy this one will have to prove me wrong.

thekhurg3402d ago

They gave everyone on the planet access to the beta. They're confident in their game.

sprinterboy3402d ago

Not enough reviewers on servers plus play time to review game correctly, it would be like reviewers playing a beta wkd again kinda.
We all had chance to play the game during open beta to know if the games for you or not, simples. Its basically destiny with modern earth story with only time will tell, better end game content to keep you busy.
Keep your expectations in check, for me personally i will be all over this until winter season pass content drops, after that i will move onto horizon zero dawn as i never play any game for more than a yr before i move on to other games.
I will get my Gold Edition moneys worth, enjoyment playing with my 3 psn buddies of 8 yrs and more over the course of the yr.

Lon3wolf3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

For me no, just like I wont care about reviews or scores for No Mans Sky (although I have played Division) as both are games I will buy/play regardless.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183810d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot810d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno810d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic810d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman810d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon810d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
