SNES Games Coming to New Nintendo 3DS Starting Today

During today’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that SNES games will begin to be released on New Nintendo 3DS, starting with Pilotwings, Super Mario World, and F-Zero today.

So many 3DS fanboys have told me it was too difficult to emulate SNES games properly on 3DS when Nintendo is really just trying to make the New 3DS look better... The PSP could emulate PS1 games, no problem with SNES games. I could play SNES games on my Vita too but I prefer buying them officially which I guess owning the cartridges like me is good enough to download the roms for free.

how about coming to NX or Wii U with up-to-date graphic Gradius,Einhader,Raycrissis,R- type, Contra , Clayfighter as physical disc.

I dunno, i've waited for those games to come since SNES -N64
if my favorite titles hit NX i would have faith in gaming again .

I for one am very happy been waiting for this for a while now, Super Mario World on my 3DS... Sold!! Cheap earthbound (doing a deal here in U.K. Buy one get other half price) Sold!! Zelda and Mario Kart Coming up, F-Zero, Super Metroid... Oh and Donkey Kong Country 1/2 sold, sold and sold be grabbing all these whilst they have promotional prices up all time timeless classics, fantastic, the fact I have the New 3DS XL does make me slightly smug only really bought it for the better 3D and battery now this happened!!! Happy days. I've been moaning for weeks that 3DS doesn't get any VC games and they need SNES games and now we're getting 2 a week. Love Nintendo. Star fox is also looking pretty cool like Lylat wars (star fox 64) beat the rhythm 3ds never played the original on Wii or DS looks cool and new Kirby i may actually be buying some 3DS games now other than just new Pokemon at end of the year ;) pretty good updates for Mario maker or splatoon which I'm yet to start (darn backlog) but yeah pretty good Direct overall, not even a sniff of Zelda tho ;( still fantastic without it and 2 directs in a week sure Zelda will get its own direct in a month or so.

It is an odd choice but hey ho I upgraded to new one last year (smug face ;( haha) was thinking it was a pretty pointless thing to do recently... Not anymore for me personally Super Mario World would have been enough but with Earthbound, Donkey Kong 2 and Zelda oh and Mario Kart get in happy days ;)

I just don't understand how it's only the "new"'models that can run SNES games, I'm not bothered as I grabbed a new Majora's bundle but still bit odd is understand if we were talking maybe N64 games but SNES games? Haha... That SNES "NEW" 3DS XL that Japan are getting tho.... Oh i want that, I understand America had a different SNES but U.K had same style as Japan and would love to see that console here in U.K as we didn't get the NES version america got that was awesome but this SNES one and as those "New" 3DS have the SNES style colour buttons.. Epic!!

I hate how little things like this are exclusive to the New Nintendo 3DS. I'd love to upgrade but who knows if there is a new Nintendo handheld around the corner.

Price you'd get for the older one tho and if you buy a snazzy limited Zelda or one of the many other limited versions you cover yourself to some extent on any money lost, get a screen protector and should keep its value and can't see it getting replaced in the next 12-18 months, it'll happen of course but think Nintendo have got a lot going on and there next big thing is gonna be the Home console, will they have a usable handheld who knows sounds cool but 3DS will easily last another year or so and the current and previous line up is huge besides those SNES games, what a line up.. It is pretty stupid tho suppose it's a way to sell the console a bit more better these older games than say a brand new Mario Kart 9 only on those new consoles tho surely. As the older models can clearly handle a SNES Game the old DS did N64 ports come on Nintendo sort it out exclusive for a few weeks but for ever? Also GBA games for the 3DS next please I banged on about Super Mario World on the 3DS for so long maybe someone passed it on, doubtful I know but can we at least have all the GBA games that Wii U have had for a while now, share the love.
2 SNES games a week tho (in U.K anyway) gonna be a good month or 2 for 3DS.

I just upgraded to the Fire Emblem Fates N3DSXL, so this is really cool. Looking forward to playing Earthbound for the first time because I've heard so many good things.

Also, for everyone annoyed by the fact that SNES games are only coming to the new models... that's the point. You're supposed to be annoyed that you're missing out so that you have another reason to upgrade. It's a simple business strategy for selling more systems. I'm not saying I agree with Nintendo alienating a large chunk of their fans, but it's definitely understandable why they decided on this.

Yeah they could have announced Mario Kart 9 and also last week new pokemons and said sorry times up we want you all to get upgraded. Luckily they just kept it at SNES games sure they'll make their way to older models eventually but at the speed Nintendo do VC releases could be a while.

Bought immediately Supe Mario Bros!!! In Japan games are about $5. Not bad given Nintendos history....

Exclusive to "new" 3DS??? Im glad i own it but thats pretty lame if its SNES roms.. Thats more than possible with the reg 3DS.. Thats a shady move but what can you do? I already have these so i dont plan to buy them regardless..
