I know, I know. What a horrifying title. But it’s true. I’ve always been a huge fan of Nintendo, but ever since I received my first Game Boy Color I’ve been all about Pokémon. I never had any of The Legend of Zelda games on any of my consoles, partly because I was too young to earn the money to buy them, and none of my friends were so hot on it either so I never really fell into it. My Nintendo life has mostly revolved around Pokémon; nothing else.
Here's how to get a new fan made PC port of Nintendo classic Link's Awakening running on Valve's Steam Deck.
The average cost of Game Boy games has been steadily rising for years. If you look at the overall price growth, which has doubled within the last five years, then it should be pretty clear Game Boy game prices are following the trend of increasing retro video game prices.
You would have to be crazy to keep a Pokemon game in the box after getting it as a kid, though.
I still have my Final Fantasy Adventure and Zelda: Link's Awakening, but loose. I haven't had the box in... I don't know, a couple decades?
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "It would be safe to classify Link's Awakening as an oddity of the series. The handheld title, which began its life on Game Boy and was updated as Link's Awakening DX for Game Boy Color, is one of the few mainline games that excludes staples like Ganon, Zelda, and Hyrule, and the most brazen in terms of cameos from outside gaming franchises — in this case Super Mario, Kirby, SimCity, and Kaeru no Tameni Kane ha Naru. Moreover, it includes a roster of eccentric characters and a surreal setting that both go beyond the typical Zelda milieu.
Yet for all its irregularities, Link's Awakening achieves greatness mostly for the way it conforms to, and riffs on, traditional Zelda mechanics. Ultimately, the game feels like a logical extension of A Link to the Past, which makes sense since it started as a Game Boy port and involved the majority of the team that crafted the esteemed SNES game."
That's crazy that you have never played one. I remember playing the crap out of a Link to the Past when I was a kid probably beat it before I was even 10. Then it was Ocarina of Time right after that. I never really got into Majora's Mask because of the time management but now that I'm older I really want to go back and play it.
I'm over 21, and have literally played thousands of games in my life. I know about 95% of the games out there, and I consider myself to amongst the hardest of hardcore gamers. I also own every major Nintendo handheld. Now, with that being said...I've never played Zelda... I know it's shocking (and embarrassing). I honestly don't know why I haven't. I guess I just never got the opportunity.
By the way, I've also never played a "proper" Mario game. The closest I ever came was playing a Mario Cart Wii demo in a Gamestop for like five minutes.
I hope one day I can play these games...it's just that, I have a huge backlog.
Legend of Zelda DX was my first zelda game and it is my all time favorite game so it's the reason why I love zelda, but only the top down ones for some reason. I loved Oot but the top down zeldas are where my hearts lie.
