Double Dragon II: The Revenge Launches Today on PS4

Posted by Satoshi Hamada on Feb 26, 2016 // President and CEO, Hamster Corporation

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is an action game that was released by Technos Japan in 1989. In order to avenge your girlfriend Marian, Billy and Jimmy use their signature move So-Setsu-Ken to challenge mysterious armed forces. In the game, players can use even more skills than the previous entry in the franchise which leads to more intense battles.

The Arcade Archives series has faithfully reproduced the masterpieces of classic arcade games on PS4, while taking advantage of the additional features PS4 offers. Players can share screenshots and video with the Share feature, and can also compete with other players online to improve their standing on the leaderboards.

my favorite Double Dragon game.

Shit..... Gotta download this....

This is nice. Hope they add other classics. I would love to see River City Ransom get this treatment.

This and Contra were my two first games on a console called Microgenious. :P

But at nearly £6 I'll stick with my VC version me thinks. Yet people think the ps2 classics are expensive £8-12 compared to these types of games admittedly this is a great one but seriously £5.79?! I bought mortal kombat 2 on PS3 very near launch it was barely £2 so why are these relics acceptable at this price. Hey ho, great game just NES version is best by far.

How can the NES version be better than a port of the arcade game?

RosweeSon3131d ago

Personal taste but it's the one I played as a youngster as I was about 5 and owned a NES but I think it looks and plays better on NES. That's just me tho.

At that price, I'm gonna go get TMNT and suck at it all over again

That electric seaweed is calling my name!

Longie_long982d ago

The sound when you touch it... I hear it in my dreams.

ZeekQuattro982d ago

I remember one of the levels in Retro City Rampage was paying homage to those seaweed segments. Not quite as hard but man did it bring back bad memories of my many deaths on that level. Never did beat that game without the Game Genie. Same with Battletoads. lol

The top-down view theme music was stuck in my head all day as a kid.

I'm not sure if I ever completed a no-damage seaweed run.

Double Dragon 2 is one of the best!! Several good games on this list! Shadowgate, P.O.W., and Klax. That is actually a super fun puzzle game! TMNT, I think every time after the seaweed, I only had like 1 Turtle left. lol

camel_toad982d ago (Edited 982d ago )

Shadowgate was how I got so familiar with Nintendo's helpline lol. But man did I love that game.

And wow I forgot all about P.O.W. until you mentioned it. Man being a kid with a NES really was the good ol days.

Best birthday ever: 15 and I got a Super Nintendo with Super Mario World, Pilot Wings and Street Fighter. (Spoiled rotten) And I saw Basic Instinct at the theater!

I'd pick up an arcade port. Not interested in a NES port.

Ready4nxtgen1601d ago

This I's the best version. Graphics wise, sound wise and gameplay wise. There is no comparison. The arcade version is terrible in comparison

CosmicTurtle1601d ago

Weirdly the NES version is superior by some margin in my opinion. It is far more responsive and fair than the graphically superior coin-op.
