FGE - Undertale is one of the best games I’ve ever played. If you’re someone who still hasn’t played it, or if there’s even a vague chance of you playing Undertale in the future, then I highly recommend you stop reading this review and go and play the game yourself. I don’t say this lightly, but Undertale is a game that deserves to be played with absolutely zero knowledge, with absolutely no expectations whatsoever (though I appreciate that’s hard to do nowadays, given the fanbase this game’s garnered). It’s the kind of game where actually telling you what makes it so brilliant kinda gives away the genius. Undertale is a game that is willing to do so much in order to achieve what it sets out to do (often taking big risks in the process), but the amazing thing about this is that it succeeds time and time again in subverting player expectations, and then doing it all over again at a later point when you think you’ve got the game figured out. It’s a truly wonderful feeling and one that few games I’ve played have truly been able to evoke the way Undertale did.

Asgore is often reduced to being either a ruthless dictator or an absolute wuss by the fandom, despite being incredibly layered.

I see people giving this game 10/10 around the board. The soundtrack was excellent, the story was neat and the gameplay was pretty good.
I notice IGN gave Earthbound, the masterpiece, 9/10 and a perfect score to Undertale.
The combat "act" function was just trial and error which seemed kind of lazy to me. It seemed like it lacked substance.
Great game, memorable characters. I'd rate it as a solid 8.
