Layers of Fear Review - IGN

Lack of subtlety and a reliance on boring cliches smothers any good ideas this horror game might have.

ShadowKnight3409d ago

And GameSpot gave it a 7 out of 10. I'm done with IGN when it comes to reviews lol

DarkOcelet3409d ago

GamesRadar is the only Pro website i actually look at when it comes to Reviews.

Their reviews are always fair.

This right here is BS!

ShadowKnight3409d ago (Edited 3409d ago )

Yup they also gave Alien Isolation a 5.9 I'm done with them Dark

Aeery3409d ago (Edited 3409d ago )

IGN ... never change!

(yeah, they are pretty terrible sometime :D)

Gazondaily3409d ago

Gamesradar?? They have had some terrible scoring in their reviews.

killer_goat3409d ago

Still better than that mess of a site called game on daily.

ShadowKnight3409d ago

@DarkOcelet Did you post up Gameradar review score? They actually gave it a good score.

MWH3409d ago (Edited 3409d ago )

I used to appreciate Kevin VanOrd's reviews at Gamespot, I believe he was trustworthy. unfortunately he left.

People on this site really can't handle opinions.

ChrisW3408d ago

I think it has something to do with maturity...

CaptainObvious8783408d ago

It seems like you're the one that can't handle opinions.

Because guess what? These people disagree with IGN. It's just an opinion bro.

KiwiViper853408d ago

Did everyone read/watch the review?

Or just see the score and fly into a rage?

MehmetAlperTR3408d ago

Bought it from Steam a minutes ago.. I hope it s a good game..

ShadowKnight3408d ago (Edited 3408d ago )

Do you like it or have you start playing it yet?

MehmetAlperTR3408d ago

@ShadowKnight didnt play it yet.. Tonight i hope to play it :)

vanethe3408d ago

GT is /was the only reviewers I trust I miss them a lot

Blaze9293408d ago

I actually just played about 2 hours of this game and completely agree with the score. Literally pass 90 minutes - the game just gets madd boring.

ShadowKnight3408d ago

A few other people said they like the game. I guess it's a matter of opinion and preference

KillerPwned3408d ago

We lost the last good review site RIP GT you will never be forgotten.

Novistador3408d ago

Oh man that 1.2pt difference...

ChrisW3408d ago

Maybe this review was just one person's opinion and even in that a review should only be mildly taken into consideration when formulating one's own opinion. Unless, you're incapable of rationalizing others opinions for what they are... Opinions!

generic-user-name3408d ago

Tbf that's only 1.2 in the difference

OhMyGandhi3408d ago

I bought the game back when it was still basically a demo, and loved it. I have no idea why critics are having a field day over the game.

It was damned creepy, with enough genuine shocks, and plenty of psychological horror-related elements to keep me interested all the way through.

If you are craving a Silent Hills game, ignore these critics and go by the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. This game was incredibly fun.

Mr-Dude3409d ago

Hmm... IGN didnt recieve their check?

DarkOcelet3409d ago

IGN also gave Alien Isolation 5.9/10

http://www.ign.com/articles...

When it comes to horror, both Gamespot and IGN dont know Jack $hit.

Gasian3409d ago

You understand that reviews are done by people and it is their opinion. If you disagree with their opinion that is all you have to say. "I don't agree with these IGN reviewers opinions. Let me go look for someone's opinion on things I agree with." Rather than them being paid off by publishers nonsense. I don't think I will ever understand this website and their conspiracy theory/ grade school level BS. At least look into something before making assumptions. Where is your proof? And when there is proof then I will believe you guys. Have a good day everyone.

Bimkoblerutso3408d ago (Edited 3408d ago )

This particular score aside...let's just think about this for a second.

I seriously doubt there are many situations in which pubs outright bribe journalists for good reviews(as in..."here's a thousand dollars and our game, give it a good score), but if you really believe that these companies do not find scummy legal methods of pressuring sites into giving less-than-credible reviews, then I truly feel sorry for you. Pro-tip: it's not just gaming journalism and it's not new.

Palitera3408d ago

The simple fact that sites live by the money from developers themselves (or publishers, no difference), already mean those won't be neutral on their reviews.
It is simply impossible to dissociate your critic when you depend on this kind of money to operate. It might not even be a self-aware proccess, but it is there.

Would you p***-off someone who is throwing dozens of thousands of dollars in ads at you?

DefenderOfDoom23408d ago

Also, they were giving out free Nexxus cell phones to people who reviewed "Watch Dogs".

Makes it hard to tell which reviews that are being honest.

Gasian3408d ago (Edited 3408d ago )

@Bimkoblerutso I agree with you there for the most part. I should have clarified I was specifically talking about the comment "Hm...IGN didn't receive their check?" Which I don't agree with that comment at all and like you said they don't outright bribe them. So I agree with you there. There are examples of it happening like the Gertsman thing.Another recent example, is the Shadow of Mordor crap with Youtubers back in 2014( even if that they are not press it is still an example I wanted to bring up.)

Now this brings me to another topic and that I feel negates the purpose of a lot of reviews entirely,That damn redundant score. It completely distracts from the actual content of the review and creates an artificial level of expectation on if a game is good or bad based on a mediocre scoring rubric. This is why I have so much respect for Eurogamer recently ,last year, they dropped that system. I hope eventually (my cynicism tells me it is not gonna happen) ,that these reviewers drop scores all together. (I also hoped they did it for movies, that I feel opinions are even more subjective on, but it never happened.) Even if it is just my opinion that I think review scores are bad.

Just am tired of people making assumptions is all ,but of course there are examples of it happening. I think there always is but I doubt it is the norm. Luckily there are multiple reviewers out there and you can look for the level of clarity and transparency you want.Someones opinions you agree with. Hoping one day that level of clarity is reached across the industry entirely.

As annoying as she was to me, I fear she may be right about a few things. I'll get a lot more opinions of course but I'll wait on this, I don't have time anyway.

ShadowKnight3409d ago (Edited 3409d ago )

Check out other reviews
