Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Review | IGN

IGN:
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 refines the gameplay to the absolute best of the series and offers a large roster of playable characters. Unfortunately, it squanders all of that potential with a short and poorly presented campaign fought against buggy AI, a forgettable Adventure Mode and online matches that are plagued with connectivity problems. The Ultimate Ninja Storm series sadly does not end on a high note.

One of the few sites - this time - that gave the very repetitive Ninja Storm 4 with its simple gameplay a fair score.

The 8 and 9 of ten scores for this game are hilarious.

Ginpachi-sama3379d ago

I always see u bitching on the naruto storm posts go outside buy urself another game ffs.

Hoffmann3379d ago

Going outside? Dude we have 2016! Gamers are buying games online and don't leave the house for them anymore! BELIEVE IT!!

CrimsonWing693379d ago

Lol at this score, I mean what a joke! So, the very same site gives ultimate ninja storm 3 an 8.6 (great) and regardless of not changing much and just making the game absurdly bigger and flashier it now gets a 5.5 (mediocre)!?

So, the AI spams long ranged attacks that you can dodge and chakra burst into them when far away? Guess that's a negative... He didn't like an additional mode that recaps previous events? Um, guess new comers interested in these things weren't kept in mind for this review... And connection issues online, which is a valid critique, but I'm not sure that's enough to drop it into mediocrity.

I'm sorry, but just by juxtaposition alone this game is a better game than the 3rd installment which this very site gave an 8.6. How are we to take these reviews seriously with these inconsistent critiques?

What a joke of a review.

To be fair man its not the same author. I know people see everything as its the sites review but its not like the whole site reviews a game its very often one person.

secretcode3379d ago

As much as I want to agree with you, I don't think it's fair to criticize the score given between two games when it wasn't the same reviewer.

Lonnie183379d ago

I agree the reviewer is obviously not a fan of the series or the huge fan service it delivers.

CrimsonWing693379d ago

I appreciate the level headed responses. I gotta be honest I was expecting the usual flame filled responses as usual.

But let me challenge your points of view here, if I may. What's the point of giving reviews if one person can't critique elements on a criteria standard? So, it's acceptable for one review to say, "Hey the way this game is designed is fine," while another says, "Hey this same game is designed poorly."

I honestly feel that reviews have changed from actual analyzation and interpretation of game design mixed with opinion as a way to weigh personal experience (that not everyone will share) with actual analyzation of mechanics and elements (that everyone will experience) AND removing personal opinion in order to critique a game fairly so that there's actually a...oh I dunno, a balanced and fair review.

Instead what we get is a first grade field report essay on why I do or I don't like a game because of personal reasons X, Y, Z that you, as someone interested in the game, may or may not experience. Like, why waste theirs and our time with just opinion? I just think a little more thought and actual discerning of the design of the game and the intention of mechanics would benefit a review greatly.

For example, he identifies an issue he has with the game such as spamming of long ranged attacks. Yet, he fails to mention that you are equipped with means to counter these moves such as dodging, chakra rushing, Justsu techniques, etc. which in turn makes one of his points rather...moot.

It's like complaining about a Souls game being too hard and unfair so it's a mediocre game, review done, now I can relax kind of mentality that I don't feel represents the actual point of doing a review.

Lonnie183379d ago

These games are understood more by true fans of the series. I'm sure I will enjoy this as I play through the game whatever mode that might be since I plan to platinum it as well just like the last 3 I played. There is soooo much fan service in titles like this that reviewers have no bearing on my decision to purchase it and I'm sure a ton of fans will agree and answer with their pockets. This I'm sure will not be the last Naruto game I mean with the series continuing to it's 3rd and final arc with the son and life of Naruto's child Bourto!

Hoffmann3379d ago (Edited 3379d ago )

Am a "true?" Naruto fan since around 2003 but the recent games are just not so great. Remember how the Naruto games on PS2 improved above each other ..but with the Ultimate Storm series you have a copy and paste series that only adds more and more characters, there is like zero innovation, that and the gameplay is a lot simplier than it was in the Ultimate Hero games.

Chaosdreams3379d ago

There's a little innovation here and there. The formula works so they stick with it. It's a game for the fans, basically. You can't say that there's "zero innovation."

The gameplay is simple but there's some depth to it.

Blasphemous is a fantastic game. It has that Souls type storyline, very dark with a despair type atmosphere.

nevin11107d ago

Is it a Souls type gameplay experience?

smashman981107d ago

Sort of but if souls were a 2d platformer. Think salt and sanctuary.

SegaSaturn6691107d ago

Soul Calibur6 minus the massive list of DLC?

shinoff21831107d ago

I can't be the only one surprised that they are still adding content to Now.

badz1491107d ago

Why are you surprised? The service is going to be combined with the higher Tier PS+ subs from now on, of course they will better maintain it from now on

gold_drake1106d ago
