Best PS4 arcade fighting sticks for Street Fighter V

I'm not a serious fighting game enthusiast but I do like to play Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat X and looked at cheaper options that would give me cross platform compatibility between my XBOX One, PS4 and PC. I've looked at the Mayflash F300 which does work across all three platforms although strangely requires a joypad plugged into it. The buttons and stick are cheap and not Sanwa but it does support replacing these with Sanwa parts so I figured it would be as good as any of those more expensive sticks once the parts were replaced or does the need for a joypad being plugged in cause any kind of delay in the output, anyone tried one of these sticks?

Ugh never get these garbage stick go with sticks that have real parts whether they be from japan or korea.

I had a preorder of the Chun-Li TE2 for a while under the presumption that hey it'll come out with the rest of the sticks in early February. Imagine my surprise when in early January I get an alert saying "HEY YO? YOUR STICK SHIPPED. WE TOOK THE MONEY. PEACE."

I'm glad it happened, because otherwise I would have probably cancelled it. I really love this thing, to be honest.

I'll just stick with the PS4 controller. I play way too many genres of games to invest in an arcade stick. Now if I pretty much played fighters 90% of the time then yes. SFV will be the only fighter I'll be playing in PS4. If I were to buy Dead of Alive 5, MKX,new blazblue,new Guilty Gear,Tekken 7,New soul calibur,anime fighters that get released all the time,etc then I I would have bought one.

Even still, it's not entirely necessary. Play with whatever you're comfortable with. Some of the best Street Fighter IV players in the world play on pad. The "play on stick or you'll never get good" mantra is outdated as hell.

So true. All of my FG friends play with a controller and they're pretty damn good. It's just getting comfortable and use to whatever input device you're using.

I simply find a stick more comfortable for long sessions and for grinding out trophies if I go for them. Controllers can cause my hands to cramp up due to my carpel tunnel, and fighting games tend to be rather rigorous on the controller, and the next day my wrist and hands can be swollen pretty bad requiring me to wear a brace. I can personally pull off more moves with a controller, because I'm not great at it with a DPad or analogue stick, but that's probably because I'm twitchy to begin with, but on a stick, I can control myself better...maybe the old school arcade gamer in me.

Otherwise, yeah, stick won't make you a better player. May make some things easier to do if you are a button masher though.:)

I've still yet to plug in my PS3 fight stick to see if it works. It was the SFxTekken one that came out for the PS3. Might try it out on NitroPlus which I'm getting in a couple days.

To be honest the ds4 is perfectly fine, especially with the more lenient inputs of SFV, and other newer fighters like Skullgirls.

Definitely give it a shot. The beta was a blast and the learning curve is much lower compared to other fighting games.

For those of you that use fighting sticks, is it just for the arcade feel, or do they provide a noticeable advantage?

For me, it's comfort almost entirely. I learned FGs on a stick and I can't go back. There are advantages to playing on stick certainly but there are also advantages to playing on pad. Old school games with very strict execution requirements are much easier on stick, but that really isn't the case with newer games (especially SF5). Go with what you know and you'll be fine.

I wouldn't necessarily call it an advantage but to me it just feels so much more comfortable than a controller. For me it feels better to move using a joystick and to do inputs with the buttons in that arcade layout.

Depends on how twitchy you are with a regular controller. I think for SF it doesn't matter, as the moves aren't overly complex except for a few. For DOA, some of the moves are easier on a fight stick, like Ryu's special throws, but are otherwise manageable if you get the muscle memory down.

Comfort is usually much better on an arcade stick. I have carpel tunnel, and since I can binge play fighting games, the hand cramps can be quite painful with serious swelling the next day in the wrists, as fighting games tend to have much more movement of the buttons and sticks than other games.

Ultimately, whether they provide an advantage is up to the player. Some will do better with them, some will do worse. Just like a controller, it requires you learning the game, and then committing the moves to memory along with training the muscles in your hands to be able to do it instinctually.

If you're into fighting games, and play them a lot, I would suggest purchasing a cheap one(not too cheap, but not top of the line), or borrowing one if available, and try it out for a while. If you like it, and you have the means, upgrade to a nicer one.

I been thinking about getting an arcade stick, but how is the durability? They are a bit expensive, and don't want to get one only for it break after a few months of regular use.

The expensive ones typically are extremely durable, and made with high quality parts like they'd put into arcade machines. The cheaper of the expensive ones usually have a plastic housing as opposed to metal, but the internals are usually of quality parts.

Others could tell you better what all the different parts mean when your researching, but IMO, anything in the $150+ range is probably going to be perfectly fine. You don't need to go all out, although you can if you want to.

If you're unsure of what to get, just go to Amazon and start reading the reviews. Go through all of them and try to discern those who don't know what makes a quality stick, and those that know their stuff....it should be pretty apparent because they'll discuss the actual components as that's a major thing with stick enthusiast. Find the ones in your price range, and even below or a bit above, and then compare all the reviews to see which has the most pros vs complaints to make a decision.

Then there is of course learning what all those different components actually mean to the experience you'll have off the stick, however, if you don't use them currently, it's hard to have a frame of reference, so at best, you can see what the enthusiast seem to like.

I could never get into arcade stick controls.. The joystick always makes me jump upright instead of moving right and vice versa.. I feel much more comfortable with the D pad.. Im in total control with that rather than screwing up my special moves by accidentally hopping toward the enemy

Why do you have difficulty pushing left? Do you just not know how to hold it properly?

Maybe.. I dont have a table tall enough to set it on & i guess my legs sitting straight the whole time isnt very comfortable
