PSP Fanboy hands-on: Yggdra Union

PSP Fanboy writes: "Wow, Yggdra Union is tough. That's probably the first thing you'll say after getting through a few matches of Atlus' upcoming PSP SRPG. It'll take a few battles to wrap your head around the unique mechanics of the card game, and although the game does an excellent job of holding your hand, don't expect an easy romp, even in the second battle in the game.

Yggdra Union is a tactical card RPG that will test your tactical capabilities through and through -- there's no grinding here to be found. Battles are typically multi-tiered: just when you think you're done with a level, a new set of increasingly difficult reinforcements appear. However, because your character's morale (essentially, their HP) carries over from battle to battle, across every level, each battle is decisive. If you make too many mistakes with one character, you'll notice that they'll be at a serious disadvantage in upcoming battles. And don't think about grinding to level up your characters: you can't. The story moves at such a brisk pace that your success depends solely on your ability to choose the right cards, and decide exactly how to move your characters through the map."

May have to finally try out some Persona.

dead_pixels3683d ago

If you're new to the series I'd start with Persona 2: Innocent Sin as it's a lot more polished and enjoyable than the original.

I'll have to check that out, thanks.

Atlus “ReVITAlized” PSP Price Drop Event is Live on PSN

PlayStation Blog - "Money. It’s like a baby in a burning building or a snail in the middle of a busy sidewalk; pretty much everyone wants to save it.
Since nobody wants to be the jerk that steps on that poor, innocent snail, we (the fine people at Atlus) are dropping prices on our PlayStation Store library of PSP system titles, not unlike the PS Vita’s undocumented ability to drop smaller articles of sub-clothing. We’re calling it…"

Discovering Yggdra Union - Hidden Gems

GamingUnion: "It's a well known argument that JRPG fans haven't really had much in the way of home console hits this generation. Only recently have publishers begun to announce highly anticipated titles such as The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles – albeit only in Europe. Now I've heard this complaint many times and what I find is that many a JRPG fan simply don't bother to look elsewhere, especially when that elsewhere is a portable device. Sony's PSP and Nintendo's DS systems are breeding grounds for the genre, where many traditional, as well as experimental titles, can be found. One such title is Atlus and Sting's Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone."

I knew about this game sincw its japanese launch.

And let me make this clear. The consoles are not doing well in japan. THATS WHY THEY ARENT COMING OUT IN BULK for the consoles.

BUT considering there place theirs more japanese rpgs on them than any system in history
