The Division drops player trading at launch, might "make an appearance in the future"

Ubi has confirmed that The Division has lost its trading feature that would have seen players able to sell items between one another in-game.

Associate creative director Julian Gerighty told GR the feature wouldn't be in the game at launch, citing the "priority of different features" as the reason behind its removal. "It’s the reality of production. Some features make it, some features don’t," he explains.

Wow..... This certainly is following Destiny's footsteps.

Sashamaz3444d ago

I can see why it's been removed, some things should be earned.

Halo4isTrash3444d ago (Edited 3444d ago )

Don't you mean RNGrned!

Meltic3444d ago

Been delayed like 3-4 times and they could not add this ?? i call it lazy and they dont give a shit.

pompombrum3444d ago (Edited 3444d ago )

This begs the question was Ubi marketing this originally as an MMO or was myself and many others just assumed it was one? This was one of my most anticipated games of the year yet the more I read about it, the more disappointing it sounds. Not sure if that's due to me wrongly assuming it was being designed as a fully fledged MMO or Ubi got cold feet and backtracked on their vision.

phoenixwing3444d ago

sounds to me like Ubi had to scale back on their vision, while unfortunate it was probably done for financial reasons and keep the project afloat

sprinterboy3444d ago

@phoenix

Agree buddy, this is why i think devs/publishers show off some of there games way too early.
The downgrade in gfx alone will put gamers off (large chunk in sales imo) seriously what i saw with the angry joe footage its nothing the ps3 cell processer and gfx couldnt do, hoping the ps4 footage is close to the pc footage and ubi havent gone for parity between consoles

darren_poolies3444d ago

@sprinterboy

Highly doubt the graphical downgrade will put that many people off.

KTF263444d ago

they didn't
it's only speculations

I remember when they announced it I was talking to my friend the next day
He said to me it most likely isn't an MMO because in an interview with a developer they asked him about it and he said not exactly and threw a phrase to describe the game

*I don't remember that phrase clearly

ninsigma3444d ago

That's something they have in common with Bungie. Both refuse to call their respective games a full on mmo. Most likely because mmos are not something console players traditionally buy into. So we end up with some sort of hybrid that has all the hallmarks of an mmo but is treated as a normal game.

TheJacksonRGN3444d ago

No they never called it that. They said it is a persistent open world game, that's an RPG and third-person shooter or something along those lines.

Roccetarius3444d ago (Edited 3444d ago )

People always assumed it was one, but Ubisoft never mentioned it was one. Only Online RPG was mentioned. They're not dodging the MMO genre, like people are saying, because they only borrowed a few elements from it.

The word Massively is more than a few co-op parties running around, and a hub area.

I really hope they back up and put the trading feature in their final product at launch. First the companion app wich had me like "I can help out my friends while Im at work." Now this... I wasnt totally sold in the Alpha testing so maybe Im gonna skip this one too. When I played the Destiny Beta, I was vert disapointed and I didnt buy it at launch like I planed... I bought it last black friday and only payes $25 for it. I only hope they keep adding stuff to the final product otherwise Im not buying The Division either.

starrman19853444d ago

I think this (and Destiny for that matter) would benefit from the System that Diablo 3 has, if you're in a group then you have a time window to share your loot. That eliminates the option to sell it online for real money and just enables you to help each other.

fei-hung3444d ago

Does this game have microtransactions? I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of this future so people are more likely to purchase via MT as supposed to gamer trading.

Stapleface3444d ago

They have confirmed any dlc will be cosmetic in nature. So that wouldn't be a reason to stop weapon trading. It's just so people ha e to play more to get the weapons they want.

3444d ago
TheJacksonRGN3444d ago

No pay to win in this game. You have to earn your weapons, gear and rank. The cosmetics stuff adds nothing to your character in terms of stats. Those are what the microstrans are covering.

starrman19853444d ago

Got no issue with cosmetic micro transactions, well I have one issue, they could create unique achievements in-game to unlock the cool cosmetic stuff rather than having to buy it..

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183807d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot807d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno807d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic807d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman807d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon806d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
