FGE – I think I can describe Tharsis as a video game that completely misjudges its premise. It has an interesting concept, but mechanically, its design is all over the place. Tharsis relies heavily on the randomness of its gameplay. It achieves this primarily through the game’s main mechanic, dice rolls. Failing can be soul-crushing and happen before you have any chance to avoid it. In contrast, if you’re lucky enough, succeeding in a playthrough can be a cakewalk. Ultimately, Tharsis leads to a lot of anger due to the amount of RNG involved within.
