OpenCritic Launches Individual Critic Pages, Reveals First Quarter Metrics

When we think of great film critics, we think of people such as Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel. We cared about their thoughts as individuals. In games, however, conversations rarely mention the people behind the review and instead focus on the entire publication. Not only does this make it harder for gamers to get the complete context behind a quote or verdict, but it makes it harder for critics to build a lasting following.

Displaying critics' names alongside their reviews was an important first step, and today, we’re taking the next step. Each critic now has their own individual page to showcase both themselves as individuals and their work as a reviewer. In the future, we plan to empower gamers to flag their favorite critics, or possibly even subscribe via email or RSS. Even further down the road, we'll be considering features that help connect gamers with critics of similar tastes.

We've also hit some important milestones since our last update. Over 150 critics have already customized their profile page. We also just passed 20,000 reviews in our database, and we'll be adding our 100th publication later this month. With Just Cause 3, we surpassed 1000 concurrent users waiting on OpenCritic for the review embargo to lift. Additionally, our investment in tools and scalable technologies has already paid off, with over 50% of reviews no longer needing human oversight. We're proud of each of these accomplishments, especially in our first three months. Overall, we plan to continue to build towards a review aggregator that benefits everyone in the industry: gamers, critics, and developers alike.
